Publisher's summary

An unexpected love story…

Jules Strauss is a Princeton senior with a full scholarship, acquaintances instead of friends, and a family she's ashamed to invite to Parents' Weekend. With the income she'll receive from donating her "pedigree" eggs, she believes she can save her father from addiction.

Annie Barrow married her high school sweetheart and became the mother to two boys. After years of staying at home and struggling to support four people on her husband's salary, she thinks she's found a way to recover a sense of purpose and bring in some extra cash.

India Bishop, thirty-eight (really forty-three), has changed everything about herself: her name, her face, her past. In New York City, she falls for a wealthy older man, Marcus Croft, and decides a baby will ensure a happy ending. When her attempts at pregnancy fail, she turns to technology, and Annie and Jules, to help make her dreams come true.

But each of their plans is thrown into disarray when Marcus' daughter Bettina, intent on protecting her father, becomes convinced that his new wife is not what she seems.…

With startling tenderness and laugh-out-loud humor, Jennifer Weiner once again takes readers into the heart of women's lives in an unforgettable, timely tale that interweaves themes of class and entitlement, surrogacy and donorship, the rights of a parent and the measure of motherhood.

Good characters, good narration

I listen to books in public transport, so they need to be pick-up-able, reasonably compelling and not too many characters ( just because you cant flick back to find who was who very easily). This was a good solid story about 4 women, their different lives and their reproductive connection. The characters were believeable, no one was 100% good or 100%bad, with credible lives. It wasnt a "can't put down" read, but it kept me occupied and interested throughout. Worth a listen - not life changing, but not annoying or too cliched either. My only complaint would be the too-neatly tied up ending.

Ending was flat

Would you consider the audio edition of Then Came You to be better than the print version?

The book was based around the story of 4 strangers who lives eventually become involved with one another over their involvement with an IVF baby. It was very well done, lots of detail and character building. But the climax/ending fell flat...it was rather boring and seemed like the book just needed an ending.I usually really like Jennifer Weiner's word but this wasn't one of her better books.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Yes, I would have changed the ending.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrators were great. Only the narrator who portrayed India was questionable.

What a Pleasure...

This story is so well written. The narration perfect. The production premium. Together it made this book a treasure. I so appreciate the work everyone did to bring this story to Audible. I enjoy most of the books purchased but some are treasures. This tale is a treasure. About midway through I thought "Oh, no this is going to be depressing". So grateful it was not. It is a contemporary story delivered by a great storyteller. Truly I thank you.

It Takes a Village

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the way the story played out--it was interesting having the different perspectives of each of the main characters, and I loved hearing it in their own "voice." I wasn't crazy about the ending--a bit too "happily ever after" for my taste, but that aside it was still a decent listen. Each of the women had a very fresh perspective on the situation, and it was fun to see how things intertwined, unraveled and then came together.

Ended a bit too neatly

I am a fan of jennifer wiener, and always feel addicted to whatever novel of hers I'm reading. I like how the lives of the characters gradually intertwined over the course of the story. However, there were some pretty big leaps toward the end.

engaging characters

I enjoyed the multiple points of view as each of the characters developed . I found my opinions of each shifting as the book went on, ultimately admiring each woman's journey.
I have been reading and enjoying Jennifer Weiner since her earlier rom-com style novels and I am thoroughly loving her transition into deeper characters and more complex subjects. She is an empathetic and insightful writer.

I really enjoyed this book.

Very heartfelt. Spoke of addiction and the pain of trying to "fix" someone. Loved all of the different complicated relationships.

Fun Book!

I really like the story line. I like 3 out of the 4 narrators, which made it a little tricky to enjoy the whole book, but after I got into it, the narrator I liked least wasn't as bad. All and all, this was my first audiobook and I'm hooked!

Jennifer Weiner delivers again.

Just came across this title a few weeks ago and bought it. I've been a fan of Ms. Weiner's for years, in fact, I have to be in the right frame of mind to re-listen to some of her books because they are so emotional. I loved the multiple characters and voices in this one.
