Raine Kendall has everything a woman could want…almost. Sexy, tender Dom Liam O'Neill is her knight in shining armor, but Raine keeps pinching herself. Is he too good to be true or is this growing connection one that could last a lifetime? She's constantly torn by her abiding feelings for her commanding boss, Macen "Hammer" Hammerman, especially in the wake of the mind-blowing night he cast aside the barriers between them and ravaged every inch of her body.
Hammer, Liam's former best friend, can't stop coveting Raine. But Liam is determined to hold and guide the woman he loves and see if she can be the submissive of his dreams. However, he's finding that her trust is hard won and he needs a bloody crowbar to pry open her scarred soul. So he risks everything to win her once and for all. But once he's put his daring plan in motion, will it cost Liam his heart if he loses Raine to Hammer for good?

I typically love Shayla Black. However, I will NEVER purchase another book that is not a stand alone title. I am absolutely fed up with authors and publishers abusing the industry. Especially when the "books" are all being sold in electronic formats there is no justification for a $30 book price for a single book of a trilogy. I am not a fan of the other two authors FYI. So disappointed in seeing this work from an author I love.
Nope. I love reading erotica and romance, but as I said I am through with buying books that are not stand alone titles.
I am SICK of authors turning a single story into a trilogy. As a customer I am not stupid and AUTHORS-the jig is up. I had read the first book of this series and was frustrated by the ending (you should skip that one as well) and decided that I wanted to "close the loop" on this story. Well, needless to say that did not happen. This book went on FOREVER. And not in a good way. I found myself spacing out and getting bored. Seriously, it's erotica and if I am bored you are seriously doing something wrong. I am all about creating a story, drama, and some sexual tension, but this story was just infuriating.
The narrator kept slipping up and inserting an Irish lilt into various roles (other than the actual Irish charterer).
I am not a huge fan of male narrators unless they are narrating a male part because they just sound stupid as a woman. The few exceptions to this are the Christian Lauren books-yum. I loved the Irish accent but was annoyed by the portrayal of the female lead.
I would have cut 80% of the book, combined it with the first, and whatever the hell they plan to publish as the third in this series. Way too much filler and not enough meat. Double entendre intentional...
Skip this book. Such a huge waste. We as customers should not support this ridiculous movement in publishing that forces readers/listeners to buy additional books in order to resolve a story. They will continue to do so if we keep buying.
Suggested great reads: if you are into BDSM Joey W. Hill (amazing, hot, deep, and emotionally rich stories) or OTHER Shayla Black (i.e Bound and Determined, Ours to Cherish, Ours to Love); other great erotica Olivia Cunning (interesting, creative, and steamy rock themed) or Christina Lauren (although they are a series, each book is a stand alone and panty melting HOT).
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
Firstly, if you haven't already listened to book 1 in this trilogy then stop right now and download it first otherwise you will be totally confused, won't get the best from this listen and you'd be missing out on so much background info. Now I love all sorts of Alpha males taking the form of dark Vampires, Regency/Victorian Rakes, pillaging Vikings, bad boy Bikers, brooding Highlanders and demanding Playboys (well you get the drift) but these two Doms, well they take Alpha to a whole new level... Uber, yet caring, Alpha's.
This book has really cranked up the tension between Raine, Macen (aka Hammer) and Liam as we find them all at Macen's BDSM Club all trying to come to terms with their turbulent feelings and the situation they're all now in but they're all failing badly. Eventually Raine is pushed into taking drastic and dramatic action that spurs Macen and Liam to think again about their options over the Sub they both deeply love.
What an emotional ride this awesome, well-written book is as damaged and distraught Raine confronts the demons from her past together with her insecurities while Macen and Liam try to overcome jealousy, their own insecurities, hurtful secrets and memories from their past. All that while trying to show and teach Raine that honesty, openness and trust is the only way forward but that is the last thing that they're being with her. There's great dialogue, touching and moving scenes and some very hot sexy times but this is about so much more like the character growth of all three which involves fellow Doms Seth and Beck who lend a guiding hand (not physically). Everyone loves everyone but, at the end when the WTF HOLY SH*T cliffhanger comes smashing through with just one phone call, is that going to be enough to save this difficult tender and loving Ménage.
Worth the credit? Oh boy was it ever.... but be warned as it's very high on the emotional side rather than the sexual side however there are still deep, intense, hot and passionate erotica scenes in there too. Christian Fox's narration was simply flawless, inspired and downright sexy which added so much to the enjoyment of this listen. I'm desperate for book 3 but I'm screaming, pacing up and down while pulling my hair out as there isn't even a release date yet.... oh please someone hear my prayers so I can finally be put out of my misery.
I like listening to romance novels, while I scrapbook, cleaning and cooking, sometimes when I drive.
what great people in this book and the reading is done so well I can't wait to get the third book.
didnt read the print version
The interactions at the lodge
He's a great narrator
when Raine leaves the club
Good Books Don't Promote Violence
I really liked the character of Raine, now 24, who was smart, sassy and loving. At 15 or 16, she who ran for her life from a violent incident and survived on the her own until she was found by Hammer. He owned a sex club and gave Raine a safe place to live, work and grow up.
Hammer protected Raine from the sex and violence in the club until she professed her love for him, then he became a total jerk. Hammer's best friend Liam also claimed to care about Raine but both men were too overbearing and violent for my taste.
Raine falls in love with both men and doesn't want to ruin their friendship. Hammer & Liam are loving one moment, bullies the next. I wanted Raine to maintain her backbone, dump them both and find a REAL MAN who doesn't hit woman.
This story was incredibly well written, the characters multi-faceted & interesting and Raine was endearing. As always, Christian Fox was a joy to hear. The huge negative for me were the 2 male characters who believed it was okay to abuse & degrade Raine because it's acceptable in "THE LIFESTYLE"
I liked that both liam and macen stayed friends.....spoiler alert!!!
I did not like the fact that they became a three-some
Loved all 3 main characters.
Yes. Just did not
Like the voice given to Raine
