Publisher's summary

Paula Brackston transports listeners to the windswept mountains of Wales in this enthralling tale of love and magic.

In her small early-19th-century Welsh town, there is no one quite like Morgana. She is small and quick, and pretty enough to attract a suitor, but there are things that set her apart from other girls. Though her mind is sharp she has not spoken since she was a young girl. Her silence is a mystery, as well as her magic - the household objects that seem to move at her command, the bad luck that visits those who do her ill.

Concerned for her safety, her mother is anxious to see Morgana married, and Cai Jenkins, the widowed drover from the far hills who knows nothing of the rumors that swirl around her, seems the best choice. After her wedding, Morgana is heartbroken at leaving her mother, and wary of this man, whom she does not know, and who will take her away to begin a new life.

But she soon falls in love with Cai’s farm and the wild mountains that surround it. Here, where frail humans are at the mercy of the elements, she thrives, her wild nature and her magic blossoming. Cai works to understand the beautiful, half-tamed creature he has chosen for a bride, and slowly, he begins to win Morgana’s affections.

It’s not long, however, before her strangeness begins to be remarked upon in her new village. A dark force is at work there - a person who will stop at nothing to turn the townspeople against Morgana, even at the expense of those closest to her. Forced to defend her home, her man, and herself from all comers, Morgana must learn to harness her power, or she will lose everything in this beautifully written, enchanting novel.

Take you to another time!

What did you love best about The Winter Witch?

Winter Witch is a really fun listen. I really enjoy a story that takes you to another place, time and brings it to life. Paula Brackston does a very nice job of character development, creating tension in the story and then resolving things nicely, but I really love the world in which we watch this story unfold.

Thank you, Paula and Marisa. Nice work!

Great narration as always.

I liked this less than some other of her books mostly because too many animals died.

Love Paula Brackston

The Winter Witch could've been a much longer in depth novel. I have enjoyed all Paula's books.
If you enjoy a short, bewitching mystery give it a try...

Very good listen!

Any additional comments?

Recording was spot-on and the story was wonderful. It has almost an Avalon feel, if you are into Marion Zimmern Bradley.

Very enjoyable

I loved all of the twists and turns, and it wasn't predictable, so it kept me hanging on to every word, but I only wish the author would've said where her father went. they made it as if he didn't die, or he may come back...but then nothing...

It will not do...really, it will not.

Could there be anything other than a positive review for this wonderful book? A bad review, well, "it will not do...really it will not". Why, even the final word written was a singular triumph! This slip of a girl, Mr. Jenkins' "wild one", was a study in growing from innocence to maturity and wisdom. A true coming of age tale. Tremendous work by the author and excellent narration from Marisa Calin. I enjoyed every moment of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I wish there were more background, but I was intrigued every step of the way.
