Nice Sweet Romance Well Performed Except...

This is a fun romance peppered with drama that has the listener rooting for the unlikely couple. Regina Duke created a cast of memorable characters, including a teenage girl who dresses as a vampire, a young boy addicted to his electronics at too early in age, a vengeful father set on cheating his family out of their inheritance, Cookie the cook and many more.

Of course the two main characters Kevin Wake, who must wed before his 25th birthday or lose his inheritance/trust and Megan Mully, child of preacher/missionary parents. She recently graduated from college but was in a horrific car accident – leaving her in the hospital for months.

Megan answers Wake's ad and learns of his plan. To me be married before his 25th birthday, which is only a week away.

Now for my gripes: The author's perspective on religion - perhaps she grew up in unfortunate circumstances.

Her bites at the "1%" and income inequality were not pertinent to the story. An author in this genre does him/herself no favors by including his/her political views and/or current popular political issues. This is likely to turn readers off (probably close to 50% of potential listeners.) *Had I not agreed to listen in exchange for a review, I probably would have turned it off for those very reasons.

I also think that some authors do not give enough credit to their readers/listeners. Throughout the book it seemed every two paragraphs, the author reminds us that Megan has medical bills to be paid off and that is her reason for doing what she's doing. It is kind of insulting… [maybe it is lack of editing.]

Now back to the good things, including the narrator. I have heard Tiffany Williams performance before and really enjoyed it. This time it was the same, she is more of a storyteller, her cadence and flow allows me to imagine what is going on in the book without distraction. Fantastic!

Thanks for reading my review. Give me a helpful vote if you decide it is.

Surprising love with audio books!

This was my first encounter with audio books and I must say I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the story. The story kept me in suspense all the time. I absolutely hated Kevin's father. I loved Mistress and her vampire act. All in all lovely story, great narrator.

Sweet Romance

If you could sum up The Wedding Wager in three words, what would they be?

Amazing, Sweet Romance

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wedding Wager?

I love when the sister shows up at the airport. I just love the bond that was made between them.

Which character – as performed by Tiffany Williams – was your favorite?

I loved them all, but i do have to say Megan had me from the start.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and it was totally worth the loss of sleep.

Any additional comments?

This was a great book, I do wish it was a little longer. I just did not want it to end and I'm sad that it is a stand alone book. I guess I will just have to listen again.

Exciting love story

She answered an advert, desperate for a job and he placed the advert, desperate for a wife so he could save his inheritance and that of his siblings.
Well, of course they fall in love and tie the knot but what makes this story so good is the background undertone from the fathers and the bright and kind and logical sensibility of the bride and she has a great sense of humour too.
The groom is a clever and able young man, determined to sort out an ugly mess. There are other characters that help make this an entertaining tale and I found myself laughing out loud from time to time.
All in all, most enjoyable and I'm keen to read or listen to more from this author and narrator. Superb teamwork!

Enjoyable light read

I thought this was an enjoyable story. The characters were likable and the story was low angst. I really enjoyed the heroine’s interaction with the hero’s family. The narrator was fine but I think a little stilted in her presentation.

Motivation Makes a Weak Plot

It's difficult for a reader to believe a story, when the main motivation or conflict is weak. In this story Kevin's motivation to risk everything to save his brother's and sister's inheritance makes a strong hero. Not true of Megan who goes ballistic at the thought of having a hospital debt. This makes her appear weak and rather stupid , because most everyone at one time or another has a medical debt. Also the numerous scenes where a passion for food is taken to the extreme, makes me question the author's maturity. The author may not be the only one to blame for this low rating. The narrator may have to share this 2 star rating. It's difficult to determine if it's bad dialogue or sappy dramatic reading. I'll try the author again only because of Kevin.
