Publisher's Summary

Four brides; one dress: a tale of faith, redemption, and timeless love. Charlotte owns a chic Birmingham bridal boutique. Dressing brides for their big day is her gift - and her passion. But with her own wedding day approaching, why can’t she find the perfect dress - or feel certain she should marry Tim?

Then Charlotte purchases a vintage dress in a battered trunk at an estate sale. It looks brand-new, shimmering with pearls and satin, hand stitched and timeless in its design. But where did it come from? Who wore it? Who welded the lock shut and tucked the dog tags in that little sachet? Who left it in the basement for a ten-year-old girl? And what about the mysterious man in the purple vest who insists the dress had been “redeemed”?

Charlotte’s search for the gown’s history - and its new bride - begins as a distraction from her sputtering love life. But it takes on a life of its own as she comes to know the women who have worn the dress. Emily, from 1912; Mary Grace, from 1939; Hillary, from 1968: each with her own story of promise, pain, and destiny. And each with something unique to share. For woven within the threads of the beautiful hundred-year-old gown is the truth about Charlotte’s heritage, the power of courage and faith, and the beauty of finding true love.

"God Directs Who Wears the Gown Next"

This novel's narrator was excellent. She had many accents to speak as well as male and female voices to interrupt and she jumped from one to the other with ease.

The novel is all about a wedding dress. The wedding dress was designed and sewn by a "colored woman," in 1912. The people in the wealthy South in the year 1912 had no contact with the colored. To wear such a dress was unthinkable. Society would be appalled if a bride should walk down the aisle wearing a dress sewn by a black woman. Emily was the bride and she did not conform with the righteous discrimination meted out to the black population. Therefore, Emily went into the colored part of the city and had Taffy design and sew her gorgeous gown.

There was a mystery which revolved around the question of just where did the gown originate. There were friendships made throughout the book. The book was a smooth and easy read. I had been reading some intense novels and memoirs and I needed a break. This book hit the spot. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

"I didn't want it to end!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would, and HAVE, recommended this book to a friend! She's listened to it, too!
The Wedding Dress is beautifully written, with twists and turns - some expected, others perhaps not. I wish the author would write another story with the older couple - the preacher and his wife - as the main characters. Theirs would be a story I would love to hear.
The fact that several of the characters this book talk a bit about their relationship with God, (without being 'preachy'), was icing on the cake for me. It's a sweet story, one that I was sorry to see end.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wedding Dress?

The ending. I won't give it away, but she pulls it all together wonderfully!

What about Eleni Pappageorge’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed her performance. She did all the characters quite well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Again, the ending when everything came together. I was listening at work and had to fight to keep the tears from falling! ;)

    Any additional comments?

It's like four sweet romances in one beautiful book. Read it!

I love books! All kinds... classics, mysteries, Christian fiction, suspense and action! I'm also a sucker for anything romantic. ;) And just recently started getting into some non-fiction, philosophical books.

    "Pleasantly Surprised"

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I downloaded this book for a road trip I was taking and wanted something easy-listen. I've had a lot of thinking/action books lately and wanted something more simple. I enjoyed the back and forth between the past and the present. I could see where they were going with it a bit early on, but one part near the end did surprise me. It was a fun listen, worth your credit if you like Christian Romance. I'm very picky about my Christian literature because I like good writing, likable characters, and a plot that makes sense and makes me feel for the people involved. This book did those things and it was an enjoyable listen. The narration was also easy to listen to and pleasant. Best book ever!?!? No. Would I highly recommend it? Eh... I'd recommend it, but not highly. It was nice. Not an amazing work of literature, but I'm willing to check out more by this author based on this book.

Actually, it is Jennifer, not Michael. I enjoy a variety of books but am drawn to romantic historical fiction with a Christian message.

A delightful surprise!!! I picked this book during one of the $4.95 deals and did not know what to expect. I loved it! This is an inspirational romance and mystery. It is actually two stories about two different women (one from 1912 and one from today). The story goes back and forth between the two stories, eventurally connecting these two women. I will definitely look for more books from this author. Jennifer

    "this story had it all!"
Would you listen to The Wedding Dress again? Why?

It was a wonderful story wandering back and forth between the past and present then bringing it all together in a great ending.

What does Eleni Pappageorge bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice brings warmth and depth to the characters as individuals.

I wish I had have known before I bought it. I stopped listening after the 10th mention of prayer and God. I have no problem with anyone listening to whatever type of literature they want I just wish I'd known before I wasted my credit.

"This book gets 5 BIG stars!"

This is my first Rachel Hauck book but definitely won't be my last. She tells a story that develops through the years and does an excellent job of going back and forth between the past and the present, without being confusing. There's plenty of twists and turns as well as romance and humor. This is the first time I have heard this narrator, and she was perfect for this book. I highly recommend this book, author and narrator!

    "It is just not enough"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Maybe I would recommend this book becuase is very easy. But the story is so simple... sometimes it seems to force the characters and events to keep in line, but even then, the story feels uncomplete. As if there is something missing.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Well... If there were and actual romance... but it is just about an insecure woman who is reluctant to get married...

Loved the stories behind the brides. This is a nice story where people actually pray and attend church. It's a breath of fresh air.

This is a really nice book, it doesnt have a gripping storyline but is so lovely you want to keep listening. I really felt i knew the central character and was drawn into her world. I would recommend this to anyone who just wants to relax and listen to a nice book.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No I was drawn to this book as I enjoy books that are set in more than one time period,. Sadly for me this book was a let down far too predictable plot. Once I had reached the halfway point in the book, I thought I might as well carry onto the end. I was glad when I finished it.

Would you be willing to try another book from Rachel Hauck? Why or why not?

No, especially if her other books had the same high volume of religious content.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Eleni Pappageorge?

no. I have heard the southern accent performed better by other narrators in other books.

Do you think The Wedding Dress needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, because the history of the dress has already been covered in this book.
