Publisher's Summary

#1 New York Times best-selling author Kresley Cole makes her audio debut with the first title in her Immortals After Dark series.

Nikolai Wroth, once a ruthless human warlord in the 1700s and now a general in the rebel vampire army, needs to find his bride, the one woman who can render him truly alive. As a turned human, he doesn’t enjoy a heartbeat or breathing and is consequently weaker than fully blooded vampires. He wants his bride for the power she will bring him and can hardly believe it when his heart beats for Myst the Coveted, a mad, fey, mythological creature.

Myst is known throughout the world as the most beautiful Valkyrie, part chillingly fierce warrior, part beguiling seductress who can “make you want her even as she’s killing you.” She has devoted her life to protecting an ancient, powerful jewel and to fighting the vampires, and she now sees a way to torment one - for with Wroth’s heartbeat comes consuming sexual desire that can only be slaked by her.

She eludes him for five years, but he has finally chased her to ground and stolen the jewel which commands her, giving him absolute power over her. While he possesses it, he can make her do anything, and he plans to in order for her to experience firsthand the agonizing, unending lust she’d purposely subjected him to for half a decade. Yet when Wroth realizes he wants more from her and frees her, will she come back to him?

    "Big Disappointment"

I am a huge Kresley Cole fan and have been waiting forever for her books to be released in audio format. And, when I saw that there was a male and a female narrator, I was over the moon!To say that I was disappointed in the finished product of The Warlord Wants Forever is an understatement. While the story itself is fun, sexy, and sweet (with Cole's trademark humor), the audio version is one of the worst I've ever heard. Problem #1: The story is told completely in third person but the narrators take turns reading each chapter and doing all the voices within that chapter. So, the fact that there is a female and a male narrator is completely wasted. The two narrators never interact with each other. Problem #2: Because the narrators voice all the characters (male and female) in the chapter they're reading, there is no consistency with how the characters are portrayed. The result is choppy narration. Problem #3: The male narrator does a good job with the male characters; he has a great accent. The female narrator rushes her lines and sounds more like she's reading than narrating a story. Her portrayal of the male lead is so different from the other narrator as to be unbelievable. I remain a huge fan of Cole's Immortals After Dark Series. However, if the other books in the series are narrated just like The Warlord Wants Forever, I won't waste my money or my time listening.

    "Worst. Narrators. Ever."

I love Kresley Cole. I have every book in print and on Kindle. I was very excited to start the audio collection. These narrators are AWFUL - especially the man. The woman was barely tolerable, she just couldn't do another accent consistently. The man was just....there are no words for how bad. It was ironic that he didn't understand the temperament of the characters and kept voicing Myst as timid and weak. Obviously he doesn't understand the Valkyrie. He just sounded too old and breathy. I won't be ordering more KC if they keep these narrators...I just can't make it through. Better narrator options: Female: Khristine Hvam, Johanna Parker. Male: Anyone besides this guy. Actually, either of the female narrators I listed could do all parts successfully.

"Great book, shame about the readers."

Loved the story and can't wait for more audio books from Kresley Cole. Sadly the two readers weren't great. Wroths' character was very overplayed by the actor and the person who played Myst had a tendency to rush her lines and never really get into her character. I do love all these books and own them all. Maybe for the full length books they'll get new actors. I can't wait!

    "Much Better Than Expected"

From other reviews I'd read, I honestly expected the worst from this audiobook, but I'm happy to say I enjoyed it. Although I agree that I wasn't the biggest fan of the two narrators, I'll admit it did lend a little something to the two points of view. The narrators weren't bad, I just felt it unnecessary to have two.

The short book was a fun listen, and I loved finally getting the background story on Nikolai and Myst. Her antics gave me a giggle, and Nikolai's reactions to her just made it that much better.

If you're into paranormal romance and have a few spare hours, give this one a whirl!

    "Good Story..The Narration????"

Individually the narrators are good, but they switched narration based on the POV being written....and at least for this story it did not flow well, as I said individually both narrators were great and had one or the other been narrating the story this rating would be higher. Hagan should have narrated the guy characters and Simone should have narrated the girls it would have flowed much better.

I stopped listening about 1/2 way through and just read the rest of the story it was easier that way.

"Why all the hatred for the readers?"

Granted the reading wasn't ideal but it's not like they were reading at the same time like it were a script. It's obvious that they were read separetly and spliced together so blame Audible not the readers. That being said Peter Petkoff would have been a better choice to read this book since we're all used to him and that's saying a lot for me becuase I'm a male and tend to lean towards books with female readers. this book helps to build on the relationship and clarify questions on Myst's and Wroth's relationship left unanswered in book 1. I didn't think I'd like this series but have been counting down until today when I can download book 3. I would recommend this series to anyone. So far it is my second favorite behind the Night Huntress series.

"Poor Narration distracts from a good story"

The decision to switch the male/female narrators at the end of each chapter, rather than by the characters speaking, resulted in two different voices for each character which was distracting and at times confusing. I listened to the end only because the story was so interesting. More books by this author please and use the narrator for the next installment - who did a fantastic job on both the male and female voices.

    "Left panting!"
If you could sum up The Warlord Wants Forever in three words, what would they be?

    Completely sucked in!

What did you like best about this story?

Both hero and heroine catapulted their feelings at you. It was hard not to feel the intense desire they both felt toward each other.

What about Hagan Verret and Simone Fomhar ???s performance did you like?

Overall loved the performance, but wished the overall accent matched better. He hit his part right on, she didn't get his part so well. Overall it worked, but could have been better.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Myst's attitude was annoying at times, his feelings of loss nipped at my heart. Wanting them to be together despite the difficulties was overwhelming.

    Any additional comments?

So far this series seems to be worth one investing in.

    "FANTASTIC"

Truly enjoyed this one. Will be keeping an eye out for the Lore World as one reviewer advised was coming out as the series. The sex scenes were explicit but tasteful, story line great and characters interesting & enjoyable. Narration was ok, would have been great if the male spoke only for the males and the female spoke only for the females, hopefully it's a start/idea for future narration. I like how the story focused on the main characters and there life's without overloading the story in depth of all the characters, whilst still giving enough about them to get a good understanding of them. Worth the listen, especially if the series comes out.

"Needed a shower after this- and not in a good way"

I've read and enjoyed the rest of Cole's Immortals after Dark series, so I was very surprised by how much I didn't like the The Warlord Wants Forever audiobook. I'm not sure what was different about this one. The rest of the series takes place in the same world, some of the same characters, the same themes, etc. But for some reason TWWF had my inner feminist's hackles up. It could be the few scenes that stradled the fence between erotic/ kinky and skeevy/rape-y. The narration didn't help matters. They each read Nikolai and Myst and had a different interpretation of each. At the very least they should've agreed on Nikolai's accent.
If the rest of the IAD series is going to be produced in audiobook, I suggest they find the right narrator (one who can do m/f voices). I'd love to hear Gabra Zackman or Nicole Poole narrate the rest of the series.

    "Loved it!"

This was my first Kresley Cole Book and after reading some of the positive reviews of her work, I decided to pick up the first in the series....I was really surprised how well written and presented this audiobook was, the use of a male and female narrator worked really well to show the characters different points of view. Although it is only a short story (being just under 4 hours) it did not lack in plot and character development. I absolutely cannot wait for the next in the series 'A hunger like no other' which come out in October (which be a full length novel).
For anybody who wants a new twist on our current vampire craze, I would definitely recommend this audiobook!

"Very little story and disturbing erotica"

Have requested a return for this book, I love fantasy romance but this book I thought went too far. The erotic scenes I thought were bordering on rape which is not my idea of a good read. I also thought there was very little plot and gave up on it.
