Twelfth century England: Two men vie for the throne: King Stephen the usurper and young Duke Henry the rightful heir. Amid civil and private wars, alliances are forged, loyalties are betrayed, families are divided, and marriages are made.
For four years, Lady Annyn Bretanne has trained at arms with one end in mind - to avenge her brother's murder as God has not deemed it worthy to do. Disguised as a squire, she sets off to exact revenge on a man known only by his surname, Wulfrith. But when she holds his fate in her hands, her will wavers and her heart whispers that her enemy may not be an enemy after all.
Baron Wulfrith, renowned trainer of knights, allows no women within his walls for the distraction they breed. What he never expects is that the impetuous young man sent to train under him is a woman who seeks his death - nor that her unveiling will test his faith and distract the warrior from his purpose.

~~~~~~~HOPEFUL ROMANTIC~~~~~~~~~ ~~Love Audiobooks~~ Especially Historical & Inspirational Romances ~~No Spoilers Here~~
This is my first book by this author and I’m sure it won’t be my last. I have to admit that I started and restarted this book 2 times within the first chapter before I continued further. I think it was the narration, as it took me a while to get into her rhythm of speaking. But, I’m glad I didn’t give up.
Steeped in history, this is a truly gripping story that is filled with heartfelt characters. It is a believable story that deals with family conflicts, revenge, and forgiveness. It moves along at a good pace and definitely holds interest throughout. Both the main characters, Annyn and Garr, have well developed personalities that draw you in to their world. Their romance is engaging, challenging, and so very sweet.
This story has “Christian” elements which gives dimension to the personalities of the main characters. These moral “standards” increased understanding of the character's motivations which added to the believeability within that time period in history.
If you enjoy history, heartfelt strong characters, engaging story, and romance (no detailed sex) then this one is worth a credit. I will definitely be ordering the next in this series.
Among the top.
I like books that are clean, no foul language or sexual content, and believe it or not, this one proves that great books can be written without all of that. I love the twists and turns throughout the book as well as at the end. Kept me guessing the entire time and never saw the outcome. I really enjoyed this book.
I really like her accent and the fact that she made each character different, as opposed to just reading the book. It did take me some time to get used to her accent, but once I did, I just couldn't wait to get back to it. I have listened to it more than once and will probably listen to it again. Just got the second book in the series and can't wait to get wrapped up in that one. If it's half as good as the first one, I will be thrilled.
There were several, but if I stated them, I might be giving something away and I don't like spoilers.
If you like good, clean books, you will love this one. Yes they do say prayers to God in their hearts and minds and look to Him for guidance but there are no sermons, which wouldn't bother me but might some. I think I have found a new author, if her other books are as good as the first one. If you don't like it, you have the option of exchanging it for something else. I assure you, this one will stay in my library. Thank you Tamara Leigh and please keep writing the same type of books.
The writer weaves her stories beautifully. It took a short time to get used to the melodic cadence of her writing and the narrator's voice but once I did I fully enjoyed the book.
☠"WARNING"Hate when book is ruined w/useless smut &gore. Romance & other books "almost" squeaky clean..w/o TMI! Wish books had rating system
It's rare to find a Romance Novel not filled with pornographic detail! Refreshing! And to have great interesting historical characters to boot. This is first book I read by this author and am going to order another as soon as I finish this review.
I have read several books of Tamara Leigh's, and they are all great! Her Medieval series are incredible! If you love good clean stories, full of romance and adventure and sword play, this book is for you.
Friction - Flame - Love
I love the characters. Annyn is bent on revenge and nothing will stop her from killing the man responsible for her brother's death. Garr is set on his course and no woman will ever turn him from it.
I had not listened to any Mary Sarah Agliotta's narrations before. I wasn't sure how I felt about this book having a female narrator. I was blown away. Agliotta's performance was superb.
After listening to this story, I went back and bought the other four books in the series and two more books by the same author in both Kindle and Audible format.
I really enjoyed this story! I love pretty much any era of history & this clean romance gives you an interesting look at the feudal system. I've read several different books where the author uses the plot device of a lady trying to pass herself off as a man of course it's always humorous!!! Not criticizing but I do have to wonder IRL would that really work??? Wulfrith is ever the honorable hero & Annyn is certainly spunky
