Oh my. If cheap, formulaic romance fiction is your preferred genre, then help yourself to this one. Maybe you can stand it. This one is definitely not for me. I tried. After all, I had spent a credit on it! I made it about halfway through but by that point, I was laughing out loud at situations and lines that were not meant to be funny. It was just so over the top. So ridiculous. The situations, the language, the salacious and totally unbelievable sex scenes - I just could not take any more. Be warned!

    "Lame, Formulaic Storyline"

The storyline is just so formulaic and boring. A very weak story created as an excuse to get from one seduction/sex scene to another. I'm all for light entertainment and I wasn't expecting some deep story - but this is just bad.

    "Okay plot, terrible narrator"

Terrible audio quality on this recording - sounded like someone was reading in a closet. Narrator was terrible! Wrong English accent for the aristocracy - and little or no differentiation in character voices. I had a long drive with only this book available to listen and decided silence was better.

    "Good story"

It was a good story, but it was wierd to listen to the guy's voice when he was trying to do the female character. Specially during certain scenes when they were kissing, etc.

    "Good, but not great"

The audiobook is nicely done by James Clamp. He has a lovely voice, and I assume he's British, because his effort to speak as a young lady from Gloucester, Massachusetts is not very successful. Rather than attempting a Boston accent, he would have done better to go for just a generic American sound.

The story itself was okay, but nothing especially stood out. The writing, pacing, and characterization are competent. I will listen to the next installment, as I got the two audiobooks in a special deal from audible.com. I'm not sure that I will be interested enough to spring for the rest, though.

I'm a bit mystified by the extraordinarily high ratings for this series. So far, I don't see it.

    "Nice Story"
If you could sum up The Truth about Lord Stoneville in three words, what would they be?

    Nice, sexy, predictable

What other book might you compare The Truth about Lord Stoneville to and why?

Can't think of any right now.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

A better voice for the different characters would have been nice. Would not have been able to recognize who was talking without them being identified, women or men.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Kind of. I did enjoy the book. There were times when I had to cut the listening short but was happy when I could go back to it.

    Any additional comments?

I liked Maria's fearless attitude. I appreciated the way she stood up to the grandmother and Oliver. The next book in the series is A Hellion In Her Bed. Before I got to the end of this book, I didn't think I wanted to buy the next one until I heard what Lord Jarret Sharpe said about their parents. Now I am intrigued.
