After the divorce, Angie moved back to her hometown and rejoined her loud, loving, slightly crazy family. In West End, a place where life rises and falls in time with the tides, she will find the man who once again will open her heart to love . . . and meet the girl who will change Angie's life.
Lauren Ribido lives in a rundown apartment in a bad part of town with a mother who cares more about her next drink than about her daughter. At 17, Lauren knows that her aspirations in life may never come to pass.
From the moment they meet, Angie sees something special in Lauren. They form a quick connection, this woman who is desperate for a daughter and the girl who has never known a mother's love. When Lauren is abandoned by her mother, Angie doesn't hesitate to offer the girl a place to stay.
But nothing could have prepared Angie for the far-reaching repercussions of this act of kindness. In a dramatic turn of events, she and Lauren will be tested in a way that mothers and daughters seldom are. Together they will embark on an intensely moving, deeply emotional journey to the very heart of what it means to be a family.

I have over 250 downloads in my Library and this is by far the best one. Able voice performer Susan Ericksen delivers a fine performance as she articulates the hopes and dreams of two women, one a 38-year-old who appears to have lost everything, the other a young unwed mother-to-be who never had anything.
I could not put this audiobook down. The characters felt so real. The story line was believable and interesting. I don't know how the author did it, but I felt the pain of Angie & Lauren, could smell the food of the restaraunt, very heartfelt and touching. All around well-developed characters. Sometimes decisions we make are out of emotion and not necessarily the right thing. This book shows the realistic side of emotions and bad choices we might make. So many facets to this story. It's not your typical book that you can guess how it ends! Just make sure you listen with a box of tissues.
this story touched my heart. The family reminded me of times at my mom's house. My sisters ,brothers, and the rest of my family. Our gatherings were just as written in the book.
Enjoyed the story very much....no complaints at all. I am usually bad at predicting how things will end, but was able to figure this one out midway through. However, it did not change my enjoyment of the story.
Great story, great characters, great narration..,horrible ending. I felt let down at the completion of the audiobook. Not Audibles fault, however what was the author thinking of? After listening to fourteen hours I expected more substance from the ending...much too shallow for me!
This book was completely up to Kristin Hannah's excellent standards. I will probably Audiobook everyone available. I really love her characters.
Narration excellent; plot very good although no surprises and maybe somewhat unrealistic. Overall I enjoyed this work of fiction, the second that I have read of this author.
Love of family
How family stands up for you no matter what you decide.
She kept you in the lives of everyone.
Hallmark movie in book form. The story line was predictable, with a few twists. Definitely need tissues at the end.
I love Kristin Hannah's writing style, and the combination of that and the good narration kept me going in this book. There were a lot of genuine emotions in it that I could relate to and I cried a couple of times. However, I could sooooooooo predict the way the story was going, and some parts dragged on forever, to the extent of being repetitive. Still worth reading if you like a book that will make you sad then lift you up gradually! And again, writing style and narration were great
