Publisher's summary

Sheltered Persephone, Goddess of Spring, never gets to do anything--thanks to the suffocating love of her mother, Demeter. Sephie is being carefully groomed to follow in the footsteps of the two "virgin" goddesses, Athena and Artemis, and while they sure do have a lot of fun together, she longs for something deeper--and darker. When Aidon, the God of the Underworld--generally known as Hades--appears in his chariot to claim Persephone for his bride, the young goddess gets more than she wished for.

Held captive in the Underworld, she suddenly longs to return to the safety and security of her mother's protection, but the dark and commanding Aidon binds her to him, claiming her bit by glorious bit as his own. Her coming of age is one of sexual awakening as she learns the bondage her new master imposes fulfills her darkest desires. Persephone finds herself submitting to and obeying Aidon's command and discovers being taken and consumed in the heat of passion by a man--a god--is what she was truly made for. Persephone can't deny her own nature, or her growing feelings for Aidon, as she submits to his domination and surrenders as his wife and prepares to rule as his Queen.

As she finally admits her own feelings, Persephone faces the looming specter of her history, which threatens to shatter the newly formed bonds between the couple. She must now face not only her past but her present and her future - no longer only the Goddess of Spring but also as the wife of Aidon and Queen of the Underworld--and the choices she will be forced to make will change the world forever.

Warnings: This title contains erotic situations, graphic language, lesbian (FFF) sex, bondage, spanking, branding, and a multitude of drama and romance between the Queen of the Underworld and the god of her dreams.

Love it

Would you consider the audio edition of The Surrender of Persephone to be better than the print version?

Yes, I love hearing someone express the different people and quotes. it helps me to be more involved

What did you like best about this story?

I love how it follows closely to the actual greek mythology making it harder to stop reading!!!

Have you listened to any of Holly Hackett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no but if theyre all like this then I need to

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes it is except that I only stopped to drive home from work, or drive to work, or sleep.

Great Retelling of a Myth!

This was a great retelling of the myth of Persephone. Be warned, if you aren't into BDSM you won't like this book. There is some extreme stuff. The sex is very graphic. But what a great story! The main characters are well matched and the re-imagining of the myth and world-building is fantastic. I really enjoyed it.

Child's voice, spoiler alert.

Why would anyone use a narrator that sounds like a child? Total fail, story and narrator. I actually didn't want to give even one star. I highly don't recommend. Who decides on the narrator even?

Poorly Written Story, More Abuse than BDSM

I had to stop listening, there was no actual story to this, and it turned to abuse rather than fun and sexy BDSM very quickly.

I kept asking why, why do the people Persephone comes across want her so badly? Why is girl on girl threesome still considered virginal, especiallysince there was penetration from a toy? Why isn't there a reason for Aidon's abduction? How did he even begin wanting her? And, instead of building a relationship and healthy communication, which is essential in a good BDSM relationship, he just throws her into chains after she'd been with him for barely a day, and when she understandably tries to flee, he locks her up again and I'm guessing starts to abuse her in worse ways. I can't say because when he puts her back into manacles and asks "What that I've offered you is so terrible? Why do you want to leave me?" (paraphrasing) I was done listening. I am tempted to buy this book in physical form, just so I can write all the commentary I've had going on in my head into the margins and send it to the author.

On top of all of that, the dialogue was awkward and strange, not at all believable, especially for characters who had just met. And some of the descriptions during the sex scenes were just turn-offs for me. I think this was a great premise that was extremely poorly executed, which is very disappointing because this is one of my favorite mythological stories. It's so bad that I'm actually going to return and replace it, which is a first for me.

loved the BDSM Romance take on this age old story.

An imaginative and SEXY reimagining of the Marriage of Persophone mythos. plenty of hot dark lord spring goddess bdsm and much maligned Hades is actually a really nice hot as hell guy in this. plenty of humour to be found as well.

Imagine a Greek Bard telling this story at an ancient festival.

Great idea to retell the ancient tale in this fashion. This was an enjoyable read/listen. I knew the story. Yet I was fixed on observing how the author worked out the myth with her story.

Terrible pronunciation by narrator

Someone please teach the narrator how to pronounce words properly. It makes it very difficult to enjoy the story when you have to figure out what she means to say.
