I am a Special Education teacher. I grew up in Ashland, Oregon, but have lived most of my life in Hawaii. My favorite reading/listening genres are history and historical fiction.
I loved The House on Tradd Street and The Girl on Legare Street, but I believe The Strangers on Montagu Street is my favorite of the three in this series. I listened to the entire book in just a little over 24 hours - and it's not like I didn't have anything else to do! I admit to being somewhat surprised by how much I enjoy this series. I usually listen to history, or historical fiction. I am a West coast person who has never even visited Charleston. But when I listen to Aimee Bruneau's excellent narration I can feel the sunlight, smell the flowers, and picture the neighborhoods so clearly. I felt a little sad as this book neared the end because I doubted there would be a 4th installment - but I was thrilled to hear "to be continued" at the closing.
If you like a touch of the paranormal that isn't so scary that it will make you hide under the covers at night, this series is just right. There is romance, but it's not overwhelming. Brava Ms. White!
I would listen to this whole series again, and especially this book! I can listen to Aimee Bruneau read in her melodic Southern voice for hours. The story itself is intricate and merits the extra attention of another read.
Karen White does such a great job in painting a creepy picture. The description of the Montagu house and the ghost in the turret will stick with me for a long time.
My favorite scene was right after Nola's meltdown, when Melany was trying to comfort the poor girl and Jack sat in the other room listening. It was so sweet and heartfelt.
Yes. I found myself doing extra dishes and folding extra laundry to give me an excuse to keep the earbuds in my ears!
The third book ends with a big question mark! I will be waiting anxiously for book four!
The story was too predictable leaving excitement and anticipation behind.
This book is not as entertaining as previous books read nor was it as engaging.
Nora was probably the most "authentic".
Quite frankly no. This story left not wanting for more of the same.
Great fun read!!! Going to buy the next in the series right now!. Loved Beach Trees too! Take these books to the beach,
Yes! Aimee Bruneau is a PERFECT Melany Middleton. She even does great with the other characters. I have my own image in my mind of each character.
Nola! She has talent, but has a good perspective.
It was interesting reading how Bonnie would appear, but it is was suspenseful wondering where the dolls from the dollhouse would turn up next. Makes me wonder if that could have happened to the dollhouse I had as a kid! :)
I have no idea.. not a good tag line writer... :) Sorry
his one had just a little too much going on. The mystery of Nola's mother and the music, the mystery of the dollhouse and the ghosts on Montagu Street, and the drama with Melanie and Jack/Jack's Book/Melanie's birthday all kind of overwhelmed this book. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the first two. I was also disappointed in the resolution of the Montagu Street mystery. It seemed almost as an afterthought, especially considering the title of the book.
History, mystery, modern day life with humor all in one! I love that this book is part of a series.
Excellent narrator! I search to find the books that she narrates and download them.
