Critic reviews

"Anne Flosnik seems to have a wonderful time with this romance, reading in staid, unemotional tones that fit Douglas's attitude about marriage. As hot-blooded Alex discovers lust that quickly turns to love, Flosnik's reading engages the listener right though to the luscious conclusion." ( AudioFile)

I was disappointed.

It took so long to. get going and once it did get going it seemed to spin out of control and then I felt like it was arrested finish

Two battlefields

A little bit Taming of the Shrew and a little bit First Wives Cub. I especially liked being surprised with some of the plot turns. The characters sparked strong emotions, and they changed. One minute a fellow is a cad and the next totally sympathetic. The sister duel increased the tension as well. And then, like any worthy novel, there is a Tah dah at the end. The story is set against the Napoleonic War. My only criticism is that some more detail about that historic conflict would beef up the story line.

Check it out!

The original book has a copyright date of 1992. I read said book for the first time about that time, maybe a couple years later. Definitely in the last century anyway. I loved it then. I do remember that. It is when I first became a Catherine Coulter fan. Stayed a fan even when she started writing a totally different genre. I found her that good of an author. You know, one of those "must buy" authors. Consequently, when I found this in Audible Escape, I had to give it a listen. After all, it has probably been twenty five years, or more, since I read it. I had forgotten how sexy it was. Wow! HOT! I have to say Douglas Sherbrooke wasn't a douche! One of those arrogant aristocrats who 'word is law.' I think Alex was a saint to have fallen in love with the self important Earl. I think she showed much restraint in not killing him. Of course he thinks everything is her fault. After all, "he never loses control." The Sherbrook Bride was so much fun. Many laughs to spice this lovely romance, with just a hint of the paranormal and a bit of intrigue. Even this second time around it kept me glued. Anne Flosnik did an excellent job of narration. She brought the story alive. So worth the listen.

great series

I love the series but wasn't thrilled with the narration. The voices of the men were a bit grating on my nerves. I've read the entire series and will probably not purchase more of the audio.

pretty good

I have read the book, it was nice to hear the story. I did not really care for the narrators "male" voices nor her French accent, the were distracting but I could ignore it as I knew the story. As to the story the main character is an ass, but for the time period it was how the aristocrats were. its the first in the series and I have read them all so that tells you it can't be all that bad.

Still one of my favorite books

I read this for the first time in 1992. It was the beginning of my love of all things Catherine Coulter. I love all of her books and series. I love the way she keeps Douglas fit and strong even once the twins are grown. I love Ryder, Tyson and Sinjun’s stories also.
