The Shell Seekers, the classic novel by acclaimed writer Rosamunde Pilcher, is now available in audio. This epic romance has sold over 3.5 million copies to date; her other bestsellers include Winter Solstice, Wild Mountain Thyme, and Coming Home.
Set in London and Cornwall from World War II to present, The Shell Seekers tells the story of the Keeling family, and of the passions and heartbreak that have held them together for three generations. The family centers around Penelope, and it is her love, courage, and sense of values that determine the course of all their lives.
Deftly shifting back and forth in time, each chapter centers on one of the principal players in the family's history. The unifying thread is an oil painting entitled "The Shell Seekers", done by Penelope's father. It is this painting that symbolizes to Penelope the ties between the generations. But it is the fate of this painting that just may tear the family apart.

"The Shell Seekers is a deeply satisfying story, written with love and confidence." (Maeve Binchy, The New York Times Book Review)
This 24 hour book is a wonderful story. I would read it 2 or 3 times again.
It is my all time favorite book.
However in Canada we cannot get the unabridged version. This45 min is not worth purchasing.
This short version was well read - very good
I hope others will ask audible to try to get the entire book.
It is a family saga in Cornwall. And it is very hard to put it down.
From the book (not audio) reviews, this is an excellent book. The 600 page book condensed to a 3 hour audio book is a total disappointment.
I think I've finally learned my lesson and will not listen to abridged books any more.
I suppose there was not enough time to really develop the characters. The family dynamic was there, but just passed over so you got the idea, but not enough to be really invested in them. I will read the book to do this author justice.
Narrator, Lynn Redgrave did a fine job.
An old friend.
Warm and lovely reading.
It's fantastic for what it is. Wish I could get the unabridged version. Redgrave is superb.
This is an excellent book but it looses a lot in this abridged version. I goofed and ordered it not noticing it was abridged. Lynn Redgrave is excellent but the story is far more interesting than this version allows.
No. Read the unabridged printed book until the unabridged version is recorded - if ever.
Listening to audiobooks is a guilty pleasure. I travel a lot so listen to about four per monthly. Biographies are a favorite.
Mauve Binchey's - similar style
Wish you had the unabridged version of this as it's one of my favorites. The abridged doesn't do it justice.
I have treasured this book for years and was glad to see it at Audible. I have the worn out cassettes of this book. I would definitely recommend this book and any book that is narrated by
Lynn Redgrave. My other favorite book of Rosamunde Pilcher's is Winter Solstice. Both of these books will always top my reading list.
Love Lynn Redgrave' narration. I have read the book, just wanted a wonderful story to listen to. Didn't realize it was an abridged version...not too happy that I didn't see that it was abridged before purchase. Otherwise, loved it!
I love this book, have read it other times and have seen the movie. Redgraves was the perfect narrator. However, I kept missing the parts cut out by the abridgment. Why is there not a full reading of this book available?
I loved the original book when I read it years ago. This abridged version was about a fourth as long as the regular book. Do not even bother with it
A master of her craft, Rosamunde Pilcher casts a spell that holds and fulfills!
Woven through with the color and sound of
Cornwall, London 1984 and Worl War II,
love stories are never what they seem,
nor are the people that we think we know.
"Shortened quite a bit"
I could do with out the occasional music and when you have read the book as many times as I have it was a bit disappointing that so much has been cut out.
"Love this book!"
Have previously read this book and loved it. Have also now listened to it twice on Audible and I know it will be a regular on my listening list.
So restful and calming, a story from the days of a slower pace.
music for no obvious reason highly annoying and overly sentimental. narrator voice was perfect for this book.
as usual a lovely story and a joy to listen to welll written and beautifully narratef by Lynn Redgrave
