    "Amazing story."

What an amazing story. Because I really enjoyed The Winter Sea I couldn't wait to listen to The Rose Garden and I wasn't disappointed. The story moves back and forth through time and as with The Winter Sea this proves to keep the listener intrigued and wanting more. I guess my only negative comment was that at times the narrator needed to take great gulps of air - but this was only a very minor issue. I highly recommend this book.

"Listen to this story... you won't be disappointed"

Why in the world would someone expect another really good writer in their own style to set out to produce a story "JUST LIKE" Outlander. Just because it involves traveling back in time doesn't mean it has to be compared. Why not just enjoy it for what it is. A good story, well worth the listen.

I will say as a matter of small complaint, that the narrator was a little "meek" for what I thought Eva might really be like but just the fact that I was thinking about that, means that the author did her part in building the character/s for me. I feel like I know Trelowarth.

I do wish the story had been longer and I suppose that too is a compliment to the writer. I think there is room for another story and do hope that Ms. Kearsley will have a care for those of us that truly loved the story and tell us more.

"One of the best reads of the year"

The story and the performance was soo good! I loved the events from a woman's view. I told my wife that if she like "The 6th Sense" and "A Beautiful Mind" then she would love this book as nothing is as it seems right from the very beginning.

"Lovely way to spent some hours"

I love Gabaldon's Outlander series, but I must say that I love Kearsley's universe as well. There were some moments towards the end of this book where the hairs on my arms stood up. It might be overly romantic but it worked for me. This is not great world literature but a truly wonderful book to listen to. Well worth the time.

    "Beautiful Oldfashioned Romance"

This story intertwines past and present so beautifully. The story of Eva and Daniel is so wonderfully described it was so hard to put it down. I felt drawn into the story from beginning to end. It was refreshing to listen to a book that was more romantic than sexual. It lets you draw your own conclusions in the bedroom.

My only complaint was that I didn't want it to end. I would recommend this book.

    The narrator was great too.

    "Loved it"

It was so easy to follow the story went along a great path and finially just when you thought it was coming to an ending a second path appeared and the story all pulled in another direction. Hope that there is a second book. Can't wait to hear it if there is.

    Story
"It's own tale! Refreshingly different to Outlander"

I needed a break after completing Outlander book 4 and this book was a sigh of relief. I don't think I can finish the Outlander series with its over laden sex scenes and ooey-gooey love triangles. This book was romantic but not overly so. It had much more time travel although not enough time spent in the past. This novel had one sex scene which was not graphic (yeah) and was tastefully done like how old movies were once produced. The ending was tied off nicely with no cliffhanger leading into a sequel (although I do enjoy series novels, but you don't feel that obligation to continue). It wasn't 40 hours either, again which I don't mind if the character isn't annoying (like Claire and Brianna from Outlander). I liked all the characters of this book. I liked the reader although she lacks in reading convincing male dialog. I wish all the reviewers would quit shining negative light on this book thinking it's going to be just like Outlander. I would hope it's not like Outlander. I am not the only person annoyed by the over sexed Claire Beecham Randall and her bratty daughter Brianna from the Outlander series. I do wish the time travel was a little more controlled but then many circumstances would not exist so it had to be this way. Nice and easy read and more believable scenario of how someone would behave going back in time a few hundred years.

    "Loved it!"

I really enjoyed this romantic tale that takes you back and forth through two distinct times.
I fell in love with Diane Gabaldon books and while this isn't as detailed in history as her books are this is a nice alternative. I would recommend it to everyone who likes to travel back in time.

    "Great Story"

I really enjoyed The Winter Sea and have been waiting for this book to be released. The Rose Garden was better !! Couldn't stop listening -- thank goodness I had a lot of cooking to do this weekend in preparation for Thanksgiving. Great story. Great narrator.

    "Just okay"

Mildly entertaining, but definitely no Outlander. The story was okay, but there just wasn't enough depth and character development to really get into this one. And certainly nothing new in the time travel genre.

    "Magiacal realism at its best."

I'm pretty fussy when it comes to magical realism, the balance between being believable and being silly is a fine line in my opinion. Susanna Kearsley was spot-on, however. Both elements, the present and the past, were perfectly joined, even blurring into one another. And the ending was brilliant.

I have to disagree with the reviewers who disliked the narrator, Nicola Barber. I thouroughly enjoyed her version of the story. She gave Fergal a great Irish accent (to my non-Irish ears) and Eva had a believably mild American twang. It was occasionally over-enunciated but all in all it was a pleasure to listen and I was sorry when the final line had been read.

    "Dreadful narrator......"

I have to agree with the last reviewer. This is a bland story, made unbearably irritating by a dreadful narrator whose tone of voice seems totally unrelated to the words expressed. Best to give it a miss.

    "NOT WORTH THE MONEY"

10 minutes after finishing this book, I was struggling to remember anything about it. So light and insubstantial that it floated off. Any merit it had was countered by the truly awful reader. Where do they get 'em? Lets hope she didn't cost much. Anyway, as far as I recall, this story was about a woman who flitted back & forth between the present day and 18th c. No insight into the resultant culture clash, or any recognition that personal hygiene was pretty primitive in the 18th c. Just - girl sees really hot bloke, falls for same and rides off into the sunset. What a load of old cobblers.
