Narration ruined the book for me

What disappointed you about The Reef?

Too long and drawn out. I felt like parts of the book were just added to make the story longer.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure. Like Nora Roberts and will try her again. Not the narrator

What didn’t you like about Sandra Burr’s performance?

The male voices sounded like the narrator sucked helium before reading. Buck sounded like Popeye. The southern accent used for Tate was annoying.

What character would you cut from The Reef?

I wouldn't cut a character, just the voices.

My 1st Nora Roberts book.......

This was the 1st book I read by Nora Roberts and I was very pleased with it. I couldn't stop listening.....she captures your mind and fills it with her story. What a great ride this was!

Poor Narration - over the top

Too many sex scenes and not enough plot. I have read and enjoyed many Nora Roberts books. I don’t like descriptions of rough handling of women in the bed room scenes. I felt that overall the heroine came out looking weak and needy. I didn’t like the hero. He was uneducated and didn’t have any depth.

I couldn't stop listening!

The reef is by far the best book I have ever read. It started off with a twist, and through out the entire read there was something exciting happening. If I could have stayed awake and never slept, I would have read (listened to) the entire novel in one sitting. Wow, I have nothing but great reviews for the reef. If you need one book to read for your entire career, give this one a chance. There were just the right amounts of mystery, romance, excitement, twists, science and thrill in it.

Would have been better to read instead of listen.

I did not finish this. I could not get past how the narrator did the character voices, especially the men. The story is an interesting subject, something very interesting to me, but Tate was needy and talked about love way too fast. The idea of this book is great, but the execution is lacking. I probably would have liked it more if I had read it as a book and not listened to it as an audiobook.

A boring cliche, and disappointment

I'm usually really easy to please, and not a harsh critic, but I totally couldn't get into this book. I'll admit, this was my first attempt at Nora Roberts. Are all her books this way? I love the genre of adventure / romance, which is why I bought this. But I could NOT latch on to the characters at all, and before I knew it they were already "in love", when I didn't think anything had even begun. It felt like I missed something, but I didn't. The Heroine falls for this guy before there is even any build up or anything desirable about him! Very strange. It made it impossible to feel any connection whatsoever.

Maybe it is the narration that I didn't like. It's read very very quickly, with no pause between sentences or phrases, as if she were trying to just get through the thing. Also, the accents just lost me.

I didn't even download the second half of this book. 2 hours in, I give up.

A bit disappointed

I have listened to several other Nora Robert’s book. The storyline was interesting however at times it read like a cheap romance novel. I was not thrilled with the performance of the reader. I’ll stick to one of Roberts line of books if I choose to select one of hers again.

Not Nora's Best

What did you like best about The Reef? What did you like least?

I'm a big fan of Nora Roberts, and have read most of her books (so long as they weren't published by Harlequin). Most of her books describe a strong female character with realistic character traits - her male characters are the same. I did not like the two leads in the book, and found that their 'lines' were very cheesey. I'll just chalk this up to it being a book written by her a long time ago, because she had really developed her craft as a writer.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nora Roberts again?

Yes

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No
