Death's big business. For Laney Larson, it's a full time job.
The latest in a long line of Reapers, Laney hits Liberty, Oakwood expecting the usual "reap and run" type of job. However the small town holds far more secrets than she expects, including a sexy cop who blind-sides her Reaper instincts big-time.
Liberty. It used to be a nice town until the things that go bump in the night moved in.
Detective Troy Regan moved to Liberty to claw back a little of his soul after working homicide in the big city. But the sleepy little down has problems of the paranormal kind and its police department has gone from calls about lost cats to boggarts in the basement. Then the seriously nasty stuff moved in.
Sparks fly when a sexy Reaper meets a hot as hell cop....
Troy's not sure exactly what flavor of paranormal Laney is, but he doesn't care. She's tiny, delicate, and gorgeous. When he finds a Lycan looming over her in an alley, all his protective instincts flare up. He needs to get her home, keep her safe...in his bed.
But is she the answer he's been looking for, to fill the empty spot in his heart, or the most dangerous creature he's ever met?

A good narrator can be the perfect pitch person for introducing a new author to any reader.
Lord knows, I have bought entire series because the narrator brought the author's words to life.
In this case, the narrator's voice was wrong for this book. I had to steel my mind from returning the audio book immediately. I kept hoping that it would improve as it went along. It did not.
Her performance felt more like she was delivering lines. At no point, did I feel like I was experiencing the story.
I actually checked thru my library and the listing to make sure, I did not have anything else with that narrator's voice.
I am going to have to purchase the print version to truly appreciate the The Reaper and the Cop: Liberty, Oakwood Series, Book 1 story line.
Hot sex and beefy cake police officer and a grim reaper! Mina Carter knows what a BBW wants 😋
Oh boy, this is a great little read, sorry it is so short! It is the beginning of the Liberty Oakwood series. I loved all the sass of the take no prisoner’s reaper!!
The world building is brief, but you get a great idea of where things are headed. I was surprised to see things build so quickly in this short book. There are holes, but I am sure they will be patched in the next book.
Laney is awesome in all her butt kicking glory!! She serves some serious attitude! Her banter with yummy detective Troy is super fun. This pairing has potential for many laughs along the way. I am excited to see things evolve in the series. I also love that she is a curvy gal, but she has confidence and there isn't a whole big deal about her being BBW.
It is a mixed narrative where you get both lead’s POV. It helps move the story along and gives the reader great insights. The transitions are smooth and easy, yeah no choppiness.
This is a smexy read, holy hawt-ness!! Get a cold shower, ice cream or your fella ready!! This is a scorcher!! Deliciously detailed and scandalous steam! Ms Carter certainly knows how to deliver the smut! Even if it is only one scene.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Audrey Lusk, who is always great. I have heard her on several other reads, which were terrific, but give her a gal with attitude and she really shines! Her slightly husky tone is perfect for Urban Fantasy! She has a really swift pace, some might need to slow it down to keep up with the action. Great energy throughout the book.
I am so enthralled with this read that I may not wait for the next audiobook! I know the ebook is out, I think I may have to break my general rule and get it now. I just cannot wait to see what will happen next!!
*** I hope this review was useful to you and helped your decision to read or not read this book. I love reading and sharing my opinions with other readers. I listen at double speed; all my impressions of the narration are from that setting. Thanks for taking the time to read my review! The story idea had serious potential to be a really good story. However it fell through big time. It was juvenile and just pathetic. Badly written. There is no real story to it at all. The characters were stupid. It was hard to get myself to even finish the book. And to top that off the narrator was god awful.
The narrator's voice was god awful. Her voices were irritating to say the least.
