Busy mom who loves to read but doesn't always have the time. I enjoy YA, Romance and the occasional Best Seller.
Good, but not great...
Part two of The Professional picks up right where it left off in part one. (the very steamy sauna) As much as I enjoyed the beginning part of this book, it suddenly took a weird turn. I understand this is erotica, but it went from an exciting Russian Mafia story to a Fifty Shades of Grey BDSM plot. I don’t mind all the sex, but I just didn’t like the way it was written. Some of it made me cringe and laugh. It was a little over-the-top and unexpected for Kresley Cole. In spite of all of that, I still enjoyed most of the story and thought it was a 4 star listen. I hope the final installment is better and that this one just suffered from “middle book syndrome”.
Fiction: I like Young Adult, Historical, Fantasy, Romance, Classics. Non-Fiction: I like Historical, Military, Memoirs.
I read all three parts in ebook format before listening to Part 2 and enjoyed the overall story, but I would only recommend The Professional to fans of erotica. Reading some of these reviews, I get the feeling that it wasn't clear that The Professional is an erotica book, rather than straight-up romance (think X-rated vs. R-rated). It probably doesn't help that Audible categorized Part 1 as "Fiction > Contemporary" rather than "Romance > Erotica".
I would have released all three parts as one audiobook. Part 2 covers chapters 18-33 of the story, but it doesn't hold up as a stand-alone story (which I don't believe it was meant to, anyway).
Yes, I would. She did a great job as Natalie and with American accents. Her Russian accent is decent as well, but I would have enjoyed it more if she dialed back on her Russian accents a bit. I didn't find them very sexy and it distracted from the story. She did a good job overall though.
If Fifty Shades of Grey can be made into a movie, why not The Professional? It's a much better story than Fifty Shades, anyway. (All three parts, that is...not just Part 2 on its own.)
Even though I've read Part 3 in ebook format already, I'm still looking forward to Part 3 in audiobook format, and I'm definitely looking forward to other books in this new series (The Game Maker) in the future. Fans of Kresley Cole, keep in mind that Part 2 covers chapters 18-33 of the book (Part 1 covers chapters 1-17 and Part 3 covers chapters 34-44 and epilogue), AND this is _erotica_ with lots of BDSM and other XXX-rated naughtiness. Not for the faint of heart!
“I love all genres of books, however when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
The story picks up right where Part I left off. Literally. The ending of Part I was Sevastyan and Natalie riding their horses to a sauna house to get out of the storm and Part II starts with them in the sauna. I did have to go back to the first book and read the ending again to get my bearings.
Whereas the last book we were on the edge of our seats wondering what the Russian Mafiya would be like and what that meant for Natalia, this one is more relationship building with Natalie and Sevastyan. She likes her time in Russia getting to know her father. Things aren’t so scary for her except for the fact that if anything were to happen between her and Sevastyan they’d be expected to get married. Which Sevastyan is all on board for but Natalia… not so much.
This was a great follow up to Part I. I don’t want to say too much but there’s also suspense in this one when betrayal within causes Natalie and Sevastyan to go into hiding. Plus we get more of those steamy scenes between the two. This is a great erotica story with a lot of backbone to it and I for one cannot wait until part 3 comes out.
I'm proud to be a bookaholic...addicted, obsessed, passionate!!! My favorite way to relax & escape reality....
I really feel cheated. This wasn't horrible just wasn't anything special at all. I loved the beginning of this miniseries but this part just failed in comparison to the first installment. I'm confused by the direction the series is going. There was no real forward progress aside from one major development. While I like the chemistry between Sevastyn and Natalie, I found them both a bit irritating in this 2nd installment. Sevastyn is too closed off. I understand this is who he is, I just want more from him. As for Natalie, I found her slightly whiny. When we are first introduced to her she's independent and her own women, but now she seems to have lost some of her spark. I really hope things turn around in the next installment. If I were looking at the series as a whole, this part wouldn't have bothered me soooo freaking much, but since they keep throwing little pieces out there, I'm judging the individual parts and this one was lacking big time. Seriously, what happened to the action and suspense of a Russian hitman romance I was hoping for??? It was refreshing to have something different rather than another BDSM-themed plot line. I'm going to cross my fingers and have faith the next installment will possibly make up for this one.
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
WOW... JUST WOW! I totally love KC books, and man can she write a cliffhanger. I was so wrapped in this part 2, even though I already read the book... I was just as shocked at the end as Natalie... counting down the days for part 3 to release... I so want a Russian Mafioso now!
Narration was awesome... great buy or sale... save credit for something more expensive.
I have 3 kids that occupy all the TV's in the house...enough said...addicted to audiobook ....shhhh don't tell my husband ;-)
I am NOT a fan of having KC books released in parts! I am into instant and complete gratification. The book is awesome like all her work, if you're a fan you're getting the book anyway. Just be prepared to scream when it ends abruptly....it's a TEASE!
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
The Gamemaker series is thrilling, sexy, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Where the first part was learning the characters, this part is destroying and growing the characters. Natalie is not the same girl she was when she first arrived in Russia. She is different now. More guarded, more afraid, and much more curious. Sevastyan will have to deal with a hard situation, and it will change him. This is the part I had a hard time with. He is EXTREMELY frustrating to those of us that want more, but I understand the swift change in demeanor as well. We still haven’t learned much about “The Siberian” and I cannot wait to see what past experiences made the sexy tattooed man who he is.
These two characters grow so much throughout the course of this part. You can see a relationship start to form. However, one of the things I like best about this series is that while Cole gives us a TON (and I do mean A LOT) of spice, she makes sure to include story and emotion too. It is about the relationship, not just the sex like some erotica.
My verdict is that if you like Kresley Cole’s work try this series. If you like a lot of steam, try this series. If you like erotica but hate that they lack story, TRY THIS SERIES! You will not be disappointed! :)
so far, everything has gotten even more hot and heavy between sevastyan and natalie. i'm a little hesitant over BDSM but kresley cole does wonders keeping me trapped in the book so it's intriguing me just a tad :)
Well the dark, dangerous and gorgeous Sevastyan is clearly playing to win in this second slice of the sexually and emotionally charged plot and the stakes just got very high.... and deadly.
He and Natalie have a very 'hot' time in the steam room but someone betrays them, things go from bad to worse and before they know it they're fleeing from Russia but, despite their passionate days and nights, Natalie still doesn't really know her Siberian that will literally die for her. He has tattoos, scars and a dominant attitude and she wants to know everything about him but he's just not the sharing sort because his past is guarded where unspoken dark secrets hide.
Natalie grows in this second instalment and knows what she wants from her lover and it's to play hard and dirty but Sevastyan, although very possessive and obsessive, has got his orders to treat her well - but Natalie wants her sexy, dominant, brooding, Alpha back and forces his hand (and other body parts) to her will. But has she bitten off more than she can handle and when does hot become too hot? That's the cliffhanger that we're all waiting to find out about.
Worth a credit? No, it's under $10 but this is a well-written, enjoyable, exciting, fast-paced, erotic short listen that packs a lot in with twists, turns, threats, suspense, betrayal, murder and their love story is slowly building but the trust, unfortunately, isn't there yet. I just wish KC had waited and made these 3 books into 1 non-stop listen but hey-ho she didn't so I've already pre-ordered Book 3 in eager anticipation of their climactic ending.
I would but not in this series and I would wait to buy it until I was able to read reviews. This book seemed like a pathetic attempt to release an unfinished book. I should have known this one would end with no resolution after the first, but I was hoping it would make progress in Alexi and Nat's relationship, it did not. I suggest that the author consider finishing the book and releasing it as one rather than loosing avid fans of her previous work by selling her books in uninspired pieces.
I would have published the trilogy as one book, there isn't enough here for three.
