I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again

    Story
"ENJOYABLE & EMOTIONAL BUT VERY FRUSTRATING TOO"

I was a real fan of the Ghost Whisperer series and was really looking forward to this listen however my disappointment grew and grew the more frustrated I got so unfortunate shouts of no, no, no that's not how Jennifer Love Hewitt would have done it kept echoing in my head.

Widowed Elizabeth hated her 'gift', thought it was a curse and tried to block it out whenever she could but when she met an old man who died in her arms and whose ghost later befriended her and told her of his sad life so she decided to find any remaining family of his to tell them of his life. I won't give the story away, but she finds herself staying at a vineyard run by Gio a tall, dark, handsome brute but he was also a misunderstood broody, bad tempered and bitter family member who really didn't want to hear her story. But surprise surprise they are instantly attracted to each other (aren't they always) and sparks fly, absulutely no sexual references except one minute they were kissing in his bedroom, laid on the bed and, hey presto, in the morning woke up (again.... shouts of come on, a little more detail here and there would have been nice kept echoing in my head). Their relationship seemed just a lot of mistrust and misunderstandings.

The problem I have with Elizabeth's character was that she seemed just so frustratingly pathetic, allowing herself to be bullied by Gio and, even after days and days, never told him of her gift or very much of the old man's story that she'd travelled so far to share with the family she would just go for a walk or sleep (so again.... shouts of just tell him/them kept echoing in my head). Coupled with this was the monotonous narration that didn't have any emotion and was sooo slow it sounded robotic (once again..... shouts of wake up woman and have some caffeine kept echoing in my head).

However, the ghost's very sad story was so tragic, romantic, touching and tender that you couldn't help being moved but yet again (yes, you guessed it..... shouts of oh why oh why didn't you just return to the vineyard, check up on it or with the other family members etc kept echoing in my head).

Worth a credit? It was a very sad but basically a beautiful story and, if you can get passed all the mental anguish this story gives you, then you may enjoy it. As I've said before, Narration is a very big part in audible books but I'm sure this would have been a lovely story in a readable version. I don't regret the sale price of $10.37 and although I didn't find it creditworthy, I would Wish List it and wait for it to be on sale.

    "Enchanting Romance"
What did you love best about The Passenger?

This is a wonderful book that quickly got me onboard as a passenger into a warm heartfelt romantic story. My journey was guided by a ghost and the lovely young lady able to communicate with him. From Boston to the rich California wine country I found myself wrapped into the warmth of genuine characters who struggled to solve their problems, resolve personal issues and come to understand the value eternal love. The paranormal was there, but not overwhelming, which was nice because I found myself more interested in the living characters! We are all passengers on a great journey and this book is a wonderful reminder that, if we get onboard with our hearts open to receive love, we will most definitely find love. Excellent writing, richly developed characters, and a fantastic love story!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Elizabeth. I love a strong woman character, but also gentle and kind. Not to mention she has to deal with "the gift" while keeping a level head about it all.

What does Stephanie Robinson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Good accents applied to a variety of ethnic characters

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I like to stop and think about it, maybe play it back

    Any additional comments?

    Wonderful characters!
