Publisher's summary

When Nancy discovers that the expensive jewelry her husband's been buying isn't for her, she decamps from the Scottish countryside to her best friend Carmen's posh Chelsea town house to sort things out.

Nancy finds herself in a surprising new world, where rock stars are nicer than you thought, social workers are not necessarily to be trusted, and the filthy rich are folks with problems just like you. Everybody falls in love with the wrong people, and the path to true love twists and turns before you discover who you really want.

"Humorous dialogue defines well-drawn characters and adds a fun touch to lives that are spot-on with universal human angst." ( Publishers Weekly)

A Great Book with a Fabulous Narrator!

Not a typical romance but very much a romantic book. The main characters are so well developed I felt like they were my friends by the end. They were all really likeable.

I suppose this book would appeal mainly to women, but if you have a credit you don't know how to spend, get this book! I would not have discovered it if I didn't like Heather Wilde so much I was looking for books she performed. Now I will look for more by Jill Mansell.

Not her best

I usually love her books but this one could not keep me engaged. I felt like there was always a new character being introduced and not enough depth given to the main ones. I just couldn't get into it. Still a fan but this one just wasn't my favorite.

Stuck it through waiting for greatness.....

What would have made The One You Really Want better?

The story never really got going. It was always just a little dull and then would miss the mark when you think it's going to make a turn

Would you ever listen to anything by Jill Mansell again?

Probably not.

Would you be willing to try another one of Heather Wilds’s performances?

It was not my favorite narrator but I won't avoid her.

What character would you cut from The One You Really Want?

Joseph, and the roadie

I really wanted to like this book...

The story sounded good, but the narrator was just dreadful. I increased the reading speed because at normal speed she was agonizingly slow. She did well with the various accents required. Her voice was slow and monotone. I couldn't finish the audiobook, but would consider reading it the old fashioned way.

Only all right

Two many characters. Very hard to follow. Scene transitions so quick it takes you a minute to realize it's now the next day they're talking about. It was a hard book to get through.

Annoying narration

The narrator channeled John Wayne for this book ... and it was not an easy listen because of this. Difficult to gauge characters' emotions through the sardonic cadence. Then, she swallowed words hurrying through the narrative, and It really became a chore to follow exactly who said what and why. Oh, and the Scottish accent? It was so incredibly broad and overplayed that it became a distraction, as well.

Continuing to wade my way through, but can only take it in small bits and bites.

horrible narration!

This book was made way worse by the narration! I don't think the plot was all that bad, but it is impossible to really tell because the narration was so bad. It was hard to tell which character was talking because many of the voices were almost exactly alike, there were either no pauses between each speaking or too long of ones. It reminded me of how people read who are just learning how with the sentences blending together.

Jill Mansell is always a favorite

I love Jill Mansell, and this story of Nancy and Carmen and their intertwined lives was a great HEA. They could have easily each had their own story as well, and been supporting characters in one another's stories. The narrator was delightful, and the story left me with a smile on my face!
