This is my third Krewe of Hunters audio book (I have the entire series as e-books, however) and the third with Luke Daniels as the narrator. As usual, the book is great; Heather Graham really knows how to tell a story and I've come to enjoy Mr. Daniels' narration but not so much this time around. When he did the voices for the main characters, Sloane and Jane, he spoke so quietly, I had to strain to hear. The voices he did for some of the female characters (and the theatre owner) were so whiny or over the top that I caught myself rolling my eyes a few times. As I said, I own the whole series but this was one book I hadn't read yet so my enjoyment was a bit diminished by his narration. I was disappointed by that since he's been so good with the others. Hopefully this was a fluke since he does the narration for a lot of the other Krewe books. Still, it was a good story with a nice twist at the end.
I listened to the first of this series and the love affair started there. The story line in this sereies is great and just gets better with each new book . it doesnt drag on or start off slow. You will love each and every character they bring in.It is suspenseful and funny.Loved every minute of every second.
The narrator hurt this book for me more than usual. He was very good on the male voices and some of the female voices. But he portrayed the majority of the females as hysterical non stop talkers - when there were times they should have least been portrayed as indignant or cunning.
The story line was good - what I've come to expect from Graham and I'll continue with her books. I enjoyed the book and listened as often as I could to get to the end. The ending could have been a little more solid but I don't hold that against the storyline.
Say something about yourself!
Will finish the book even though it will be a struggle and because I have listened to all the previous books.
Jane is not a grandmother, but she sounds like one. As well as most of the other women. Usually Luke Daniels does a better job. He has narrated all but one of the krewe novels, but after this one I'm thinking he wants to get fired from doing them. Since he has done so many, it would have been nice if he could have remembered the voice he used for that person in a previous book.
I like the Krewe of Hunters books. They are the same book, that is to say - there is a formula to all of the Krewe books; historic building, ghosts, bad guys and a love story. Nothing wrong with that, it's nice to have an idea of what you're going to get before you listen. This one was all over the place. It felt really rushed, and because of that it didn't make much sense. The ending was so abrupt, I think I got whiplash.
Luke Daniels is one of my favorite narrators but he didn't have much to work with here. I could hear the difference in each characters voice, and Jane, Kelsey and Logan all sound the same from previous books. However, the rest of the characters (with the exception of Johnny Bearclaw and Longman) have no discernible ethnicity and no accents, so there was no real place for him to shine. All in all, kind of a let down.
The story was good, just like Heather Graham's other work.
The mannequin room.
Not sure, but this narrator made the characters cartoon-ish. The eerie quality was replaced with tongue in cheek.
I wished I had read this instead of listened to it.
While this wasn't my favourite book from the series it was still very entertaining and I am eagerly anticipating more instalments.
While Luke Daniels remains one of my favourite narrators and there was nothing wrong with his character portrayal I felt the narration was a little like he was reading from a Dick Tracy comic strip. Slightly disappointing and not his usual best.
This is honestly one of the first books by Heather Graham that I did not like. Plus, I usually love Luke Daniels as a narrator but this was not up to his usual standards. The storyline was weak as were it's characters.
She could've made some the characters a bit more serious.
It did. But overall was not thrilled with the narration.
I feel like this was a waste of a credit.
I have enjoyed the series Krewe of Hunters by Heather Graham. The are light reading and entertaining. The narration is in the series is not very well done, however in this latest novel it is just painful. I believe It was the worst performance
I have ever listened to! The books deserve better!
The plot was thin and not very well developed. The narration made me cringe.
Write a better book.
The straight narration would have been fine. The character voices were so terrible that I had to keep putting it down.
I have enjoyed previous Krewe of Hunters books. This is definitely not one of them.
"not the best"
I have enjoyed most of the Krew of Hunters series but this story is a little wooden.
The characters are predictable and do not really emgage.
read if you are a fan but try a different story if you are new. to this series. Some of them are very good.
