Publisher's summary

The historic hotel in Boonsboro has endured war and peace, the changing of hands, and even rumored hauntings. Now it’s getting a major face-lift from the Montgomery brothers and their eccentric mother. As the architect in the family, Beckett’s social life consists mostly of talking shop over pizza and beer. But there’s another project he’s got his eye on: the girl he’s been waiting to kiss since he was sixteen.

After losing her husband and returning to her hometown, Clare Brewster soon settles into her life as the mother of three young sons while running the town’s bookstore. Though busy and with little time for romance, Clare is drawn across the street by Beckett’s transformation of the old inn, wanting to take a closer look… at both the building and the man behind it.

With the grand opening inching closer, Beckett is happy to give Clare a private tour - one room at a time, in between blueprint meetings and kindergarten pickups. It’s no first date, but these stolen moments are the beginning of something that could arouse the secret yearning that resides in Clare’s independent heart - and open the door to the extraordinary adventure of what comes next....

Excellent book 1, completely spoiled by narrator

What made the experience of listening to The Next Always the most enjoyable?

Predictable but fun story line. Nora Roberts love story developed well.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Kids and female voices utterly spoiled; please Nora this narrator does not suit your fanciful, lighthearted stories.

Classic Nora but poor narrator

Where does The Next Always rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 1/3

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Next Always?

When the boys got their puppies.

What didn’t you like about MacLeod Andrews’s performance?

Voice too raspy and whinny. Poor women and kids voices. Not up to par for a Nora Roberts novel.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Beckett took Clare and the kids to his land and his unfinished house and presented his plan to his new family.

Any additional comments?

Hope accepting the Innkeeper job on the spur of the moment. Can't wait to get to Book 3 but have to read 2 first.

This narrator clearly hates children

I’ve heard some rotten narration of kids in my day, but this guy’s voice for Murphy takes the cake. It’s like he decided that an over exaggerated mocking of a stereotype of what a person with a cognitive disability sounds like with added whining. Almost ruined the entire book for me.

love this story. the narrator was hard to listen t

Love this series. Have read it before and am enjoying it again with audible version. Agree with many other reviewers, this narrator is terrible with his children and women's voices. Cringe worthy! Luckily it's mostly told from the male perspective so you will survive

Nice romance

This was just a very nice story. Nothing exciting, and some cliches, predictable. But good for times when you can suspend reality and pretend it’s a good story.

Sweet story, not very steamy though.

I really enjoyed the story. The narrator has a good voice for the main man....not too great for the women and kids.
