Publisher's Summary

After eight seasons in London, Lady Jane Parker-Roth is ready to quit the dull search for a husband in favor of more exciting pursuits. So when she encounters an intruder in her host's townhouse, she's not about to let the scoundrel escape. Until she discovers she's wrestling a viscount - Edmund Smyth, the one noble she wouldn't mind meeting in the dark. And when their struggle shatters a randy statue of the god Pan, even more mischief ensues. Edmund was indeed searching for evidence of a scandal, but the shocking clues inside the nude statue are far from what he expected. The same can be said of Jane, who shows a talent for interfering in his affairs. And as his quest becomes more than a little improper, he finds the impetuous Lady has a talent for that as well.

    "I'm glad it's on Kindle"

    Setting: London
    Genre: Regency romance
The story was above average when I read it on Kindle. Thank goodness for ebooks! And thank goodness the same narrator isn't used for other books in the series.
The character development was good, the plot was amusing. There were a few laughs, and it wasn't angst-y.
So, like I said, go get it on Kindle.

    "worst narration ever!"

OMG!!!!! I don't think the narrator could have delivered a screwier narration without being incredibly good at being BAD! It was AWFUL....Words drawn out painfully long and exaggeratedly wobbly squeaky whiney and just laughably awful.
Yet the story was SO good that I decided to consider the narrating as a tongue in cheek over exaggeration....

    "Really good"

I really like the story but what made it hard to really love it was the voice of the lady when she made sound effects. But I still really like the story

"The Best of the Naked Royals!"

Of course I am biased because I adore all of Sally's books, but this is definately one of my favorites. I think, of all her heroes and heroines, Jane and Motton have the most explosive chemistry. Jane is a strong character with a mind of her own. She makes me turn every page. Unlike some characters I read, I support and agree with every decision she makes, which then has me willing to follow her every move. And Motton, of course, is as fascinating a leading man as you can get. There is never a dull chapter in this book. I wish she would give them more adventures! Sally is writing some of the best Regency Romance in the business at the moment!

The narration took a little while for me to get accustomed, but eventually her voice drew me in.

    Story
    "campy farce"
What would have made The Naked Viscount better?

a better story and narrator. The narrator made the story seem even more campy and farcical than it was written by using the wrong tone.

What do you think your next listen will be?

nothing by this author or narrator

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator could have read this like a romance and not like an over the top farce.
She kept stressing the "oohh" sound so that it seemed like someone was in pain and not just mulling over a thought. It made the dialogue sound stupid.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Naked Viscount?

There was just so much packed into this story that did not drive the plot:
    5 maiden aunts
    a talking parrot
    a monkey
a mystry involving pieces of a sketch hidden in a statue's penis ( really, I'm not joking)
a heroine with 7 seasons under her belt ( why not just 2 or 3)
And of course the author's favorite word "shrubbery" ( I have never read a series with so much going on in darkened gardens)
Too much to be anything but campy..

    Any additional comments?

I have read a few of the "naked" series ( not sure why). The author keeps giving her heroines insipid /incomplete dialogue, for example "uumm" or "uh" or " oh". They never seem to have a proper sentence. The author makes her heroines so stupid and spineless that it is a misery to read even part of the story.
i recently read a novel by Jess Michaels where the heroine is strong, intelligent, confident and has some of the most romantic dialogue I have ever heard. That one book makes the "naked" series a waste of time. I recommend listening to another historical romance.
