Weddings have the strangest effect on people. How else to explain the fact that Sissy Mae Smith woke up in Mitch Shaw's bed the morning after her brother Bobby Ray tied the knot? Or that gunmen are trying to kill Mitch, and Sissy Mae now has to escort a bleeding, stubborn, yet still incredibly sexy lion shifter to her Tennessee Pack's turf to keep him safe? It doesn't help that Mitch's appraising gaze makes her feel like the most desirable creature on earth, or that the ultimate stray cat is suddenly acting all kinds of possessive. Mitch is an undercover cop who's about to testify against some dangerous ex-associates.
Even more worrisome, he's harbouring hot, X-rated fantasies about the fast-talking little canine - and he has to deal with every male in Sissy Mae's Pack sniffing around her in a way that makes his hackles rise. Mitch has his pride, and he intends to show Sissy Mae that when a lion sets out to make you his mate, the only thing to do is purr, roll over, and enjoy one hell of a ride.

I'm proud to be a bookaholic...addicted, obsessed, passionate!!! My favorite way to relax & escape reality....
This is another one of my favorite PNR series when I'm looking for good humor and silliness. Yes, it's a bit raunchy and dysfunctional, but it's still a extremely fun read. This book is about Mitch (lion shifter) and Sissy Mae (wolf shifter) - both whom you meet in earlier books. Mitch is an undercover detective about to testify against a big mafia-type badboy. He discovers that an assasin has been hired to take him out. Sissy Mae is a good friend that helps him hide out for awhile. But one thing leads to another and they begin to realize that their feelings for one another run deeper than friendship. I also love the crazy dynamics of both the pack & pride families. The supporting characters are really the best part of the book . . . although the hot sex scenes are quite delicious as well. An fabulous book, I really did love the relationship between Mitch and Sissay. You wont regret reading this series. Mitch is my Fav in the Pride series with his sexiness!!! I wasn't over the top with the first book but it's pertinent to the character& world building to this series. I am soooooo glad I continued on with each book that Audible releases. These books have potential to make you snort, lol, grin goofy, smile, and possibly blush while fanning yourself from Mitch's extreme hotness:)
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
I really like these Mane books... these shifters are just too darn funny. I really like the TN Smith-town shifter clan... since I am originally from TN... I can seriously relate to some of the things Sissy Mae does. It is just hilarious. The smexing is extremely hot in these book. A great credit spent!
Narration was great. Kane does a great job with all the male voice and continues the same voices from all the other books as well, so I recognized other characters just from the voices used... Awesomeness!!
I loved everything. I have read the book several times before this audio, and although I was disappointed with the first book's reading I am so glad I took another chance!.Excellent job Ms. Kane, it felt like each character that I know and love just came alive!I found myself captivated just as I was with the actual reading of this wonderful book!Love Love Love shelly laurenston and liking charlotte kane as well! Can't wait for the next read....BRING THEM ON!
Loved that she slowed down and showed more patience The inflection and tone were all there and man the voices!
This was truly a great listen and I felt all the characters and really believed that each one was speaking!
Each personality came shining through It was a fantastic job
Thank you to whoever slowed down the timing on the narration ... soooo much better than the performance in The Mane Event and The Beast in Him. Overall, the performance was just better .. yay! I can't wait for the next book to show up.
I love this series and am thrilled that it is being released in audio..... Charlotte Kane does a great job with the narration.
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This was a very good story. I liked Sissy Mae and Mitch in previous stories and was happily surprised to see them get together. I'm really enjoying this series and will definitely be reading more Shelly Laurenston in the future.
Sissy Mae is a wolf shifter. She left her hometown in Tennessee, to go to the big city with her brother, Bobbie Rae to start their own pack. She's the alpha female of the pack and visits home rarely. She's settled in to her new life and is happy. She's also made friends with Mitch, who is as much of a troublemaker as she is. They've spent the past year being friends and having lots of fun torturing those around them with their antics.
Mitch is a lion shifter and brother to Brendon Shaw (from the second story in The Mane Event). He used to be an undercover cop in PA but now he's keeping his head down and working for Bobbie Rae while waiting to testify in a murder trial against a crime boss. When a price is put on his head and assassins try to kill him and do wound him, Sissy Mae ends up taking him to the last place anyone would expect, Tennessee.
Although he's not happy about being in Tennessee, Mitch finds that he feels safe with Sissy Mae looking out for him. Mitch recovers and gets his strength back but there's still issues. Sissy Mae's parents are away on vacation and her brother, Travis (who intends to take over the pack once her parents aren't leading any more) decides to be a jerk and try to chase them out of town. She ends up making a deal for Mitch to help Travis and his wolves in a football game vs. a neighboring town (and very important to the locals) in exchange for not getting hassled while they're there.
While nursing Mitch back to health, Sissy Mae finds herself having increasingly soft feelings towards Mitch. Mitch also finds himself wanting Sissy Mae as well but fights it because he knows after he testifies he'll be going in to witness protection. He knows he can't ask her to leave her pack for him and tries not to go there. Regardless of their attempts to resist, both Mitch and Sissy Mae end up together although Sissy Mae tries to set up "boundaries" that will keep them "safe". But as Mitch says at one point, they're both people that live to push people's boundaries so how could they ever think they could stay within boundaries themselves. They can't resist each other but try to keep things light because they both still know that eventually they'll be split up. It doesn't help though because they both fall for each other regardless. TBH, I think they've been falling for each other for a while...they just had to stop fighting it and realize it.
Dealing with pack/family issues keeps things hopping while they're trying to get ready for the competition. Sissy Mae gets drawn in too and ends up agreeing to race vs. the neighboring town. In the mean time, Brendan and Ronnie Lee have shown up in town and Bobbie Rae and Jess show up after ending their honeymoon early. Having more friends around is a good thing, especially when Sissy Mae's old boyfriend shows back up trying to get her back (and ends up trying to get forceful about it). When it seems the assassin might know where Mitch is, Dez even comes down to Tennessee to help out. Drama ensues and things get pretty interesting but turn out well and happily, Mitch doesn't end up having to enter witness protection which brings about a very good ending with a HEA.
This was a very enjoyable story. I love Mitch and Sissy Mae together...they really are perfect for each other. This series is very good and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up! :D
Another great story from Shelly Laurenston. I love how she has put some thought into how the different animal types would reflect on their habits as people- like the wild dogs chase their tails and are easily entertained, the lion males feel that females love to live to serve them( that King of the Jungle thing) and that the Alpha female Wolves are NO ONE you want to screw with. As with all Laurenston/Aiken books, the banter is quick and witty- I've taken up wearing head phones instead of ear buds so when I laugh out loud while on my morning perambulation people don't think I need an indefinite stay in a 'special room'.
There is more character development in this book- especially Dee- Ann and I love Mitch's sister, Gwen- a tigon female with an accent you could cut with a knife :) I hope for a book with her in it(soon)- it'd be a riot!
As always, Ms Kane has given us great voices and a colourful auditory picture- great job!
I recommend this book for a great laugh and is definitely worth the credit. I keep hoping that the rest of her books get done in audio soon.
