Publisher's summary

As wild and reckless as the most incorrigible of her male cousins, young Amy Malory has reached marriageable age, and she has set her amorous sights on a most unsuitable mate: the handsome, straightlaced ship's captain who once nearly had her uncle James hung for piracy.

Warren Anderson is shocked by the brazen advances of his despised enemy's high-spirited niece. Still tormented by an unfaithful former lover's past treachery, he is determined to resist Amy's charms. But an overpowering yearning for the enchanting minx threatens to defeat his defiant heart and force its sensuous surrender to a love that could stoke the fires of a perilous family feud.

Very entertraining

Although predictable, this was a lovely read.

I thouroughly enjoyed the plot (with a bit of a twist) and the characters have just worked really well together.

Johanna has done herself justice with the Malory family on this one! Thank you

Those wonderful Mallorys

It's been years since I read all of the Mallory books by Lindsey and listening to them is even more fun. Warren's story has a few twists and turns and you wonder whether or not he'll ever give in....but Amy is a wonderful character and she wins in the end.

This reader is great. She captures the personalities of all of the characters without making James and Anthony sound like old geezers.

Amy and Warren's story is a little over the top. Amy certainly has a lot of faith in Warren coming around to her thinking. All the manipulating made me uncomfortable and counting on changing him rather than loving and accepting him as is, is not a good way to approach a relationship.

Good Story

Best to listen to this book if you are very familiar with the Mallory saga. Otherwise it gets very long to listen to characters you don't know have their own side story. I know them so the story was great.

I know the narrator was just doing her best but I do have to say I cringed when ever she did the Chinese accent. It was akin to putting on black face paint and singing "Mameee" or "Ol' man river".

If you love the Mallory's....

Where does The Magic of You rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Just like all the other Mallory books I've read or listen to, The Magic of You is a wonderful story, and definitely up there among my favorites.

What did you like best about this story?

The character Amy, you can't help but love her, even if she's a bit crazy at times.

What three words best describe Laural Merlington’s performance?

Consistent, fun, enjoyable

Any additional comments?

If you've never listen to Laural Merlington narrate before, you probably won't super like her, but she's never bothered me, and now I'm used to hearing her voice(s). If you're already a fan, I'd definitely recommend this, but if you've never heard or read a Mallory novel before, I'd suggest starting with one from earlier in the series, just so that you'll understand the background better.
