Publisher's summary

J.R. Ward's number-one New York Times best-selling Black Dagger Brotherhood continues as a royal bloodline is compromised by a grave threat to the throne.

Long live the king.…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father's mantle - with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything - and everyone - at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she's unprepared for Wrath's response - or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

Good King

This book was more of a 4.5 for me it was too long and I could have did without some of the story. I loved reading about Wrath and Beth and her wanting a child. Here is what I could have did without Layla being stupid with Xcor and sneaking around and nobody knowing it and also Xcor giving up on the crown to be with her and she is pregnant by someone else. I like Assail and wished that the ending to him and Sola was better. The flashbacks about Wrath's parents I could have did without. JM first appeared in this series that he could be a reincarnated Darius. His seizures in this book have been the most obvious hint that something's wrong I wish that it was have resolved I mean this story have drag on for 12 books. I did like the Trez Iam and Selena plot leading in to the next book and the surprise that Iam is a virgin although its a little unbelievable to me I am looking forward to reading "The Shadows". I think that this story was too long and I listened to it on audio with all of the stories going some good some not so good. Beth got pregnant without going through her needing which she went through anyway and may I just say 18 hours of sex that was intense to say the least. I loved how Wrath handled the situation with the Glymia. Although I gave this book 5 stars I felt that it had lost something for me I don't know if it was the length of the book or the fact that it was a lot of unfinished stories. I am looking forward to reading Trez and Iam and what happens with Selena.

WOW, JUST WOW!!

I tend to not be super emotional but have a box of kleenex for not just crying but laughing as well. Lassiter steals my heart once again. His character is so much fun.

All my favorite characters are in the story again!

I enjoyed this one more than the last two. JR does a great job revisiting the characters we fell for when the series began. This book is full of story! The last two felt like she was strong on plot but the story was watered down to fill the pages. I loved this book!

Wrath has a Change of Heart!

What made the experience of listening to The King the most enjoyable?

I loved the way that this book covered so many of the characters, both old and new, and I loved how the narrator read it so well, I could tell who he was talking about during the dialog.

What did you like best about this story?

Wrath comes to realize certain undeniable things, and has the guts to change what needs to be changed and he also puts himself out there for the common people he represents and how it made all the difference in the way his life and everyone else's changes for the better!

Which scene was your favorite?

When Wrath is holding his son up outside to see the moon! It is at this moment he learns that his people have voted him to be their King forever! It was so touching!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Wrath is dreaming and his mother comes to him and for a quick minute he can see his Beth and his mother!

Any additional comments?

I really liked this book, it is one of my favorites in this series and I will definitely be listening to this book again!

Great installment.

I give Ward props. She's created a vast world that I enjoy being in. When we make it to the end of these books I almost get sad. Like I know I'm about to say goodbye to a friend. Or a group of friends. The BDB world is very fun to be in. I enjoy reading it. And her writing is very captivating and interesting. I even like her quirks and sense of humor with certain things she says.o really enjoyed this book. Wrath and Beth are great characters. I also enjoyed learning more about Sola and Assail. By the end I was smiling very hard. Great book.
