Publisher's summary

J.R. Ward's number-one New York Times best-selling Black Dagger Brotherhood continues as a royal bloodline is compromised by a grave threat to the throne.

Long live the king.…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father's mantle - with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything - and everyone - at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she's unprepared for Wrath's response - or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

This is the best book in the series!

My brain is going to explode! In THE KING, you get Wrath and Anha, Wrath and Beth along with LW, Trez and Selena and Assail and Sola. All their stories are wonderfully told with all the drama and action you expect from a BDB book.

We meet Wraths parents and follow their lives from the first time they meet to that dreaded day when their lives were violently taken. Vishous has an extremely disturbing vison about Wrath. Wrath and Beth have a big disagreement about their future as her 'needing' approaches. Wrath goes to battle with the powerful Glymera.

Trez thinks his 'sleeping around' ways will change his morbid future; instead, Selena does. Selena is a Chosen who wants to experience life to the fullest. The Chosen are no longer confined and now have a freedom of choice. Selena has chosen Trez, and she wants to feed her sexual hunger with the man she is falling for. She is living her life as if she is not promised another day.

Sola met Assail under the most unpredictable and violent conditions. They don't realize how important they are to one another until Sola is kidnapped. When she was taken, Assail took the lives of every and anyone who had anything to do with taking his mate. Yes, I believe in revenge too.

Overall, this is the best BDB book, everrrrr. I know, I say that all the time but this time I really, really mean it.

Another amazing book by J.R. Ward

Any additional comments?

This is such a great series. I get more enthralled with each new installment. I love the characters and by this point, they are so well developed that I can't help but feel like they are people who I have a personal relationship with. I enjoyed this opportunity to step back from the war with the Lessening Society to get to know Wrath and Beth better and to begin getting to know some lesser characters.

Throughout this book, I was a little sad because, while I hadn't heard this was the last book in the series, it seemed to be heading in that direction. I was relieved when, in the end, I suddenly realized that the author had instead left things open to so many future possibilities. I can't wait to see what the next book will bring.

J.R. Ward is a master storyteller. I also enjoy her Fallen Angel series. And Jim Frangione is THE VOICE of the BDB series. He is so talented. The voices of the different characters are distinguishable and the accents he affects add dimension to the reading. These two make a great team.

Definitely worth the credit (and I'd have been willing to give two credits for it).

J.R. Ward does it again

Well folks, the Warden does it again. This book was well worth the wait. All I can say

Best narrator ever!

Loved it! This is the best series and the narrator is the best I have ever heard. I like how they keep the same narrator on each book. He really has every character sounding different and I can tell by his voice what character he is. This book has been my favorite so far. The narrator really played the character lines to the fullest and had me laughing so hard.

It just keeps getting better and better.

What else can I say - it is the brotherhood and I am in love with the whole family of them. JR Ward is one of my absolute favorite authors. If you have not had the pleasure of reading her work, you are missing out on extraordinary work.

Great Series

This whole series is one of the best I've read. I would even rank it above King of Thrones. That's saying a lot.

Please, please, please don't let this be the last

If you could sum up The King in three words, what would they be?

So, so satisfying!

What did you like best about this story?

Everything about this book was great! The story, the narrator, the characters, every word written by J R Ward was just as great as the first one.

Which scene was your favorite?

Of course the birth of Little Wrath.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The King returns & the wait was worth it!

Any additional comments?

I too counted the months, weeks, days & minutes until The King was released. I don't know if Ms. Ward has more BDB in the works but I sure hope so. These characters are like family...you know them and love them and want their stories to continue. I'm glad I didn't read any reviews before reading & listening to this book and I didn't want it to end I found it so good. I happen to like all the storylines of the other characters. I'd love to see more of Zcor & Layla's story. And Trez, iAM, & Selena too.

Girls need to stick together, too.

Another excellent instillation of the BDB. Overall a good addition to the Brothers world. I only have one complaint. Once-in-awhile Ward writes a female protagonist that is, frankly, unlikable. And male protagonists that are a bit chauvinistic. But one thing the men always do, is stick together; commendable. The c*ck and balls club; as Ward likes to phrase it.

However, the first chance Payne (one of the females in the house) gets to throw one of the other women in the house under-the-bus to make a point; she does. She absolutely betrayed a confidence with Beth to Wrath and no one seems to notice.
