Would not try another book from Karen White. Found myself not listening and having to go back during this audiobook which is very rare for me. Story predictable and boring.
Jack & Mellie love this series its spookie it leaves you on the edge of your seat, the romance between jack and mellie is so realistic. It has the fear, when meeting someone new the stupid things people do when you love someone and cant have them.
I loved the story and overall the narration was good. One suggestion I would make would be to remove the extremely long pauses throughout the book. Each time the narrator paused for an unusually long time I thought that my program had hung as it sometimes does. I would think that the audio could be edited to remove these long pauses which detract from the listening experience.
Otherwise I highly recommend this book and I look forward to more from this author!
I am a Special Education teacher. I grew up in Ashland, Oregon, but have lived most of my life in Hawaii. My favorite reading/listening genres are history and historical fiction.
Honestly, I think I bought the book for its cover. Having realized how impulsive I had been, I was surprised by how much I liked listening to the story. I liked the ghost story that didn't have me hiding under my covers at night. I am not from South Carolina so I can't say if Ms. Bruneau mastered a Charleston accent, but I thought the narration was very good. This is a good book to listen to on a road trip or in traffic as it doesn't demand your full concentration but is still an engaging story.
This was a well written book, I will now be starting the sequel to this book. The other half of the story which this book had left you wondering about. Very enjoyable listen!
What a fantastic book! I just couldn't stop listening! It kept my interest from the moment I heard the first words until the end! The narration was superb and the story was wonderful! I just ordered the sequel because I just can't get enough! Instead of a who-dun-it, it's more of a OMG, what happened and a where is "it"? To best describe this story without giving anything away, it's like Ghost Whisperer meets Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code) intrigue, meets Nicolas Sparks (The Notebook) rated G to PG love story. What a great ending, wonderful characters, and story development!
Being from WNY, I can tell you I was impressed when she stated a character went to Rochester, NY. I was shocked that she said the Mayo Clinic is there. Work of fiction or not, it's kind of odd to have such a huge mistake. It detracts from the believablility of the story. Tradd St is real as is Legare St. Other than that, it makes me want to go back to Charleston and visit the ghosts.
This was so much fun to listen to...it was hard for me to put it away and really hated for it to end. The reader was wonderful, and the writing was beautiful AND scary!
