Publisher's summary

Lady Arbella de Mowbray abhors the idea of marrying an English noble occupying Scotland. When she arrives in Stirling, she is thrown into the midst of a full battle between the Scots and the English. Besieged by rebels, she is whisked from her horse by a Highland warrior who promises her safety. But when he kisses her she fears she's more in danger of losing herself.

The last thing Magnus Sutherland wants is to marry the beautiful English lass he saved. As the laird of his clan, he has a responsibility to his clan and allies. But when Arbella is attacked by one of his own men, he determines the only way to keep her safe is to make her his. A decision that promises to be extremely satisfying. Magnus brings Arbella to his home of Dunrobin Castle in the Highlands. And that's where the trouble begins… Their countries are at war and they should be each other's enemy. Neither one considered their mock marriage would grow into a deeply passionate love. What's more, they were both unhappily betrothed and those who've been scorned are out for revenge. Can their new-found love keep them together or will their enemies tear them apart?

A Sweet Story, Enjoyable

I love Highlander stories. This one did not disappoint as far as the main characters and the attraction was evident.

PARDON ME BUT IAM TO MARRY WHO ?

Eliza Knight delivers a awesome listen in , The Highlander’s Reward . I definitely enjoyed the vocal acting as well it suited the story so well . Now on to the next in this series…
Laird Mangnus Sutherland delivers his sister to marriage in the disputed lands of Northern most England. Where both the Scottish and English lay claim to the lands . He is returning to Scotland after delivery of his sister safely to her husband . When he comes across some troops of William Wallace and the man himself . Laird Sutherland makes quick salutations to the followers and William but wants to make haste from Disputed lands and head home ,his duty done .
Enter Lady Arebella de Mowbury , who is being wedded without her willingness to oblige her father in this matter. They find themselves entering Stirling and directly into a battle between the Scots and English . She finds herself and her men surrounded and she fights like a demon with any weapon at hand but quickly sees it is not going their way . Laird Sutherland observes the fine beauty defending herself and rides to her rescue.
Magnus plans to take the beauty to Dunrobin Castle; making arrangements for her safe return home from there . But an Attack by one of his own men ,upon Arebella , shows Magnus that no matter his Alllies and responsibilities to his Clan; his honour demands that he act . His plan is simple marriage to the beautiful Arebella is the best answer for all ,especially him lol.😊 Once Magnus makes up his mind he finds his decision extremely satisfying. His plan to Woo her . She will not receive a kiss until she asks for one but again Magnus teasing and gestures soon work their magic .
On the trip home to Castle Donrobin ,it was easy to forget reality at times . 1) Their Countries are still at war . 2) they should not having feelings for each other ,other than hate . 3) Both were unhappily to wed others . What revenge will the scorned do ? Can love survive in an environment of insecurity or will others tear them from each other’s embrace?

Better

Liked this narrator better. Spoke more smoothly when switching characters. Storyline was interesting also. Can’t wait for the next one.

Can’t listen to the narrator

I’m a fan of Eliza Knight and enjoy her books but I stopped in the middle of this one because I couldn’t listen to the narrator as Magnus. She makes him so old and it’s irritating. However, her voice for Arbella is beautifully done. I suggest using a male voice from now on.

I wanted Romance; I got it!

I love to escape into Romance Novels and I have standards. I want excellent heroes and heroines and a very good story.
This book met all the criteria.
What made it exceptional, is the hero had qualities I noticed I didn't think to expect. When I learned of these qualities I fell in love just as fast as did the heroine.
Listen and form your own opinion.

Enjoyed

I read some of the reviews before listening. I have no idea why some people complained about the narrator. I really enjoyed her voice and performance. Hope to find more books she has narrated. As for the book itself, it was a feel good romance all around and am looking forward to the 2nd book I just downloaded.

Romance and the early Scots uprising

It held my interest, the Sutherland Scots brogues were well written and well narrated. Romance was the central theme with enough description
to intrigue one. The detail regarding daily castle life was well drawn.
It ended rather abruptly. I will check to see if it is an ongoing series.
Ah yes...It is the first book of a series on the early Scottish uprising about William Wallace.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE A HIGHLANDER

I am a HUGE devotee of the Medieval Highlander romance genre so, although I hadn't heard of this author before, I took a chance - which thankfully paid off.

It has all the usual trappings giant kilt wearing Highland hunks, someone to save, battles to be won, some great characters and a few baddies thrown in too, lots of passion, mild sex, a damsel in distress and, of course, romance in the form of 2 broken engagements but only 1 wedding. All this and a bit of history too - the battle at Stirling and William Wallace makes a couple of guest appearances too.

Yes, the heroine was a wee bit stupid sometimes i.e. she escapes from his Highland Castle where she is being treated really well and intends to walk all the way back to England (but hey who knows maybe she was just playing hard to get). On the whole the book was an enjoyable easy going listen but I would have preferred a male narrator for all the beefy parts as I think the female narrator made this a lighter listen.

Worth a credit? Yes it was, but I can't say it was one of my favourite Highland Books but I am looking forward to the next in this new series.
