Lots of Heat, Very Little Fire

I didn't hate this book. It was an ok read, but the story itself was lacking in several areas. While there is plenty of sexual tension (and I mean plenty) between our heroine and no fewer than 3 different men, and while this sexual tension is described in explicit detail, there's very little actual sex in this book, even between the hero and heroine. Also, there seems to be MORE sexual tension between the heroine and the first "villain" than there is between her and the hero. Indeed, it seems most of the first half of the book is dedicated to this guy. The heroine herself, well, she was a bit too pretty, too nice, too caring, too perfect for my taste. Then, in the epilogue, the author makes a feeble and unsuccessful attempt to make Lily look tougher, but the attempt fell flat. By that time, you're a bit over the girl.

Aside from all that, the book just didn't seem paced right. Because of the way the book was set up, it seemed I barely got to know the hero.

I will give one warning. Some of the situations in the book border closely on rape. If those sort of situations are upsetting to you, I wouldn't get this book.

On the other hand, I thought the narrator did a fine job with his southern accents, and I loved his clipped British accent when he was reading the narration. This contrast seemed to help me to better keep track of conversation.

The world and the premise behind the book aren't bad either, and I will read at least one more book in this series because I'm hoping with a different heroine and more exposure to reoccurring characters, things will smooth out.

It ticked all the boxes for me

I'm sure, if you like this genre, then you'll love this. Rugged, macho, handsome, masculine werewolves chasing their one true mate but things don't go easy for them. It has witches, mages and it's a great story, great characters and, I thought, great narrator too. I can't wait to hear the rest.

Worth a credit? Oh yes! I couldn't stop listening to it.

Good Adult Paranormal Romance

The story was very good, with some new and entertaining variations on the current werewolf romance phenomena. The reader really needs to listen to someone from Louisiana speak because the accent is just not right. I live in Texas and my husband's people are Cajuns, and the accent used in the reading is quite disconcerting. Doesn't mean I won't purchase and read the sequels, it just means that I'll put up with it to get the stories.

Narrator problems...

The story was good and solid but I had to try three different times to get through the narrator's accent. Please don't get me wrong - he's a good narrator but his own British or Australian (I really couldn't tell WHAT his accent was) totally destroyed the LA accents needed for this book. And the voice he used for Tabatha had me flashing back to my youth and Saturday mornings with H R Pufnstuf. Overall, even though I enjoyed the story I won't purchase any more in the series unless they change the narrator. I will try a more appropriate book using this guy though.

Who talks like that?

Great story. Interesting take on werewolf lore. The narrator had the worst accent ever. I live in Alabama and have spent a lot of time in Louisiana and I have never heard this accent. Seems most narrators can't master the southern accent. I will continue with the series though.

"CLIFHANGER"!!!! "Can't get enough"!!!!

Can I just say Wow! What an amazing book. The way Heather tells this story. I was on my tippy toes and clutching my hands tight. And the way Gildart Jackson reads! I felt as if I was right there in there room with the characters. As soon as the book ended, I purchased the next 3 books in the series. The heroin Lilly, well lets just say every girl next door wants to be in her shoes.

Great story... Terrible narrator

What disappointed you about The Heat?

This was a great story but, the narrator makes me not want to buy the rest of the series. I will buy the rest of the books on my e-reader so I don't have to listen to the narrator.

Another Doormat Female Lead

Another female lead, treated poorly BUT its OK because he wants her, that's ALL that matters. I mean who wants a female with self respect

Good but not great

The narrator is very well spoken and does a variety voices well, what I don’t know is if it is the narrator or the way the book was written that makes it so the story lacks emotion. There is some emotion but the story is read out halfway in a monotone voice and it just feels a bit off.

The story is different and not what I’m used to when I read stories about weres. I’m not sure it is different in a good way, but the author puts enough intrigue in it to keep my curiosity up and therefore I finish the story.
