Good Adult Paranormal Romance

The story was very good, with some new and entertaining variations on the current werewolf romance phenomena. The reader really needs to listen to someone from Louisiana speak because the accent is just not right. I live in Texas and my husband's people are Cajuns, and the accent used in the reading is quite disconcerting. Doesn't mean I won't purchase and read the sequels, it just means that I'll put up with it to get the stories.

Who talks like that?

Great story. Interesting take on werewolf lore. The narrator had the worst accent ever. I live in Alabama and have spent a lot of time in Louisiana and I have never heard this accent. Seems most narrators can't master the southern accent. I will continue with the series though.

Wow!

"what a twist!" Wonderfully imagined. I was very pleased with the story line and the characters were great. I'm definitely going to have to finish the series.

I liked it.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I wouldn't make the vilian/misunderstood good guy seem so bad. For example, when he tricks and tries to have the tatoo removed. That was just sadistic. It is hard to view him at his worst and then empathize later on when you find out that he dishes out justice to the real bad guys.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I didn't like the manipulation and domination aspect. However, as much as that is not my cup of tea, I know that the author is doing a good job of creating a dominate alpha who is a control freak.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrator was good. I've heard worst and I've heard better. Nothing wrong with this narration.

Was The Heat worth the listening time?

Yes. It was unique. A little slow in some areas but I could keep going through them.

It ticked all the boxes for me

I'm sure, if you like this genre, then you'll love this. Rugged, macho, handsome, masculine werewolves chasing their one true mate but things don't go easy for them. It has witches, mages and it's a great story, great characters and, I thought, great narrator too. I can't wait to hear the rest.

Worth a credit? Oh yes! I couldn't stop listening to it.

Oh man... I really like H. Killough-Walden

What did you love best about The Heat?

Well written story. Very discriptive and a very good read.... my new favorite series!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heat?

The sassiness of the female character is not lost in the male narriation by Gildart Jackson... he captures it rather well.

Have you listened to any of Gildart Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No first time... I loved it!

great story

loved the book and the narrator has a nice voice but was very very confused as to why the narrator spoke with a British accent the entire book when the characters are from lousiana

Not your usual paranormal romance

After listening to two of the books, in this series, I recognize that there is very little romance included. There is a competition, or rather a battle, between to male ware wolves over one potential mate. One of the males is a good soul and the other is a lost soul. In the first book, this lost soul does redeem himself, however, in the second book, the lost soul is actual inherently evil. If you read or listen to paranormal romances for the experience of the H/h finding love, you will likely not enjoy this series. If you like action and the darker natures of humans and beasts, this may be just the series, for you.

Just the wrong narrator

I read The Heat many years ago. The narrator was a really poor choice. The setting is southern USA - the guy sounds like he is from UK! Basically, read the book next to the pool. But don’t listen!

Good Start to a Good Series!

Would you listen to The Heat again? Why?

I enjoy good paranormal romance stories. This one didn't disappoint.

What other book might you compare The Heat to and why?

A more tamer version of the Phoenix Pack series.

What about Gildart Jackson’s performance did you like?

GJ did a good job; however, I don't think his female character voices are as good as his male character voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were a couple...Tabatha and Daniel's interactions; Malcolm Cole's history moments; and James and Lilly's emerging guardian relationship.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.
