Publisher's summary

In the war between heaven and hell, a special race of humans with supernatural abilities will represent the balance between darkness and light. They are known as The Guardians.

Jack Bennett comes from a long line of Guardians, a fact that has been drummed into him since he was a kid. When he and a select group of elite Guardians are called upon by the Archangel Michael to complete a special assignment, Jack gladly accepts. Seven years later a failing mission and personal losses have left him jaded, bitter, and without room for love or relationships in his life.

The past that Addison Monroe is so desperately trying to escape is one she can't outrun. The darkness inside that causes her to act unpredictably has gone unexplained until now. A woman claiming to be an angel appears with a revelation that will shake Addison to her core: her dark nature is explained as Addison discovers that she is one of the Nephilim - a child born of a human mother and demon father.

Despite the dark nature she was born with, Addison has been chosen by heaven for a special purpose. Ten scrolls spelled to open up portals between hell and Earth; 10 demons who are using them to come and go from Earth at will, a violation of the terms set by heaven in the battle for souls; and one demon, known as the Great Duke of Hell, who will stop at nothing to defeat her. Fighting alongside two Guardians, Addison must uncover the legendary Seal of Solomon - a ring that is said to possess the power to destroy demons - and wield it against the enemies of heaven.

As his task to protect her develops into something more, Jack will find separating his job from his personal life nearly impossible. Ignoring the dangers of becoming too attached, Jack will find that a woman whose very nature should repulse him might just be his saving grace.

Great start to a series

Any additional comments?

The battle between Good and Evil, Angels and Demons is never ending.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Elise Marion has one heck of an imagination and knows how to tell a story.

Angels, Demons, Guardians, Romance, Suspense, Good vs. Evil and plenty of Action.

Great start to a series. I was really looking forward to this book and was not disappointed at all. The story pulls you in immediately and never lets go. It's a well written, creative and very enjoyable story from start to finish. Worth your time and credit? Yes, absolutely. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series.

Even though this is a shorter book it doesn't feel like it. Many shorter stories feel choppy or the characters are flat. That is not the case here. The story is fast paced, flows smoothly is full of action and has a great well rounded cast of characters.

It does end on a cliffhanger so be prepared.

Henry McNulty did a great job with the narration. Nice voice. Clearly spoken with a smooth even pace. Really good character voices and accents. This is the first time I have listened to him narrate a book and I enjoyed every minute of it. He was the perfect narrator for this story. Hopefully he will be narrating the rest of the series.

Could Be An Interesting Story

The Guardians: The Guardians, Book 1 by Elise Marion
This novel took me through a series of events that held me captive until the end then left my tongue hanging open for the next book. I hate to start a series and there is only one book. Now I will have to wait months before I know what happened to Jack and Addison.
Addison discovers that all the whispering that has been going on in her head has led her to a diverse group of people who are charged with standing between mankind and the hordes of hell. Oracles, Guardians, demons and angels make for an interesting set of characters.
As the chosen one Addison has nine more demons to send back to hell but can she do it alone? Jack has shown her that she is not worthless and is a true guardian of light but now he has been dispensed somewhere. This book is a very good beginning and I hope that it will only get better as we get deeper into the world of the Guardians.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed listening to Henry McNulty bring this story to life. His narration was great! We live in a world where there are angels, demons, humans and other things we can not see. There is a sect of Guardians that take an oath to weed out the ones not following the rules and vanquish them to hell.Addison is a lost girl who grew up hard with a drug addicted mother.Of course, there is more to the story.Jack,a Guardian is tasked with finding her.She is special, she just doesn't know it.
A good read.

Great Supernatural Story

She story sucked me right in. The characters were well developed and I would have given it a 5 stars if not for the huge cliffhanger! I'm more of a HEA person.

There is quite a bit of action and suspense. Addison has gone through a lot. Her parents are awful! Poor girl, she has a really evil Dad and a drug addict mom that doesn't care for her.

Jack on the other hand comes from a loving family. His best friend Micah lives with him. They have lost someone dear but are keeping it together.

The feelings between Jack & Addison are mutual. He is there to support her throughout her journey until... I'm not too fond of the way things turned out at the end.

The narrator did a good job bringing the story to life.

One Down Ten to Go?

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this story. It has all of the elements necessary for a great read..

The characters in this story are diverse. Some are obviously good through and through while others have good and bad traits and must struggle. The true villains, the demons, are obviously the bad guys. We get bits and pieces of the major characters throughout the book. As we learn more about them, we are better able to understand their motivation. I am looking forward to getting to know them even better through the rest of the series.

This was a difficult book to rate at first. I really enjoyed the story, but something felt off. When I took the time too figure out that it was the rules I didn't like, it made sense. The rules for any religion often do not make sense to us mortals, and this story was no different. Although the rules made me angry and frustrated at times, they make perfect sense in the story. Once I realized this, I was able to go with my first instinct in rating the book.

Speaking of the rules, I have a feeling we are just starting to understand them. The book covered a lot of rules, but new ones were revealed off and on throughout the book. The scenarios we are shown at the end of the book leave me wondering what else we are going to be learning.

Yes, there is a cliffhanger at the end of the book, however, the book tells a complete story. This is a good ending for a series using the same characters. A major storyline is completed and we are left knowing that 9 or 10 additional stories need to be told. We are also left wondering what the future holds for a major character. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I through Henry did a great job narrating this book. I had no trouble telling the characters apart and the narration did not interfere with the story. Additionally, I found his voice easy to listen to and I believe it helped me 'read' the story in one sitting.

Again, a great book, worth a credit. A bargain on sale.

Thanks for the opportunity to read The Guardians Elise!

So Much Action

I loved this story. Listening to Harry's voice was wonderful and almost a bit too relaxing. Thankfully there was so much action I was riveted to the story. Elise knows how to write a great story and she really pulled out all the stops on this one. The whole story-line was just amazing and then her characters were out of this world. What can I say about Jack... aside form can I add his amazingness to my man? And Addison... she's so strong and so fragile it just makes all of the story so perfect. All I can really say is thank you so much Elise for writing such a great book and keep 'em coming lol.

LOVED the story...Narration a bit monotone

Story of Angels vs demons is awesome! Reminds me of 'Piercing the Darkness' book (if you haven't read it you SHOULD!) Could have done without the sex scene. I bought the 2nd book on hard copy (lol on my nook) but a little disappointed that the 2nd book was not already in audio. I listen a lot when I am working at home. The narrator has a nice voice. I was able to easily discern the different characters via the change in his voice. Unfortunately, the narration of the story itself (and even the sex scene...I fast forwarded through once it got really into it) was much too monotoned. Not enough 'natural' inflection during the story telling. I found myself having to concentrate or I would drift in my thoughts and have to go back and listen again.
All in all, I really enjoyed the story. I'm looking forward to reading the 2nd part.

Seal of Solmon

Any additional comments?

This is the 1st book I've had the pleasure to listen to by Elise Marion. It was amazing and I would listen to it again. If you are interested in the fight between heaven and hell, angels vs demons. You've found a great book to listen too. It is well written and at times complicated just enough to keep you on edge for what happens next.

My two favorite Characters are Jack and Addison. Both have been some what jaded by life but still good people are heart.
Jack and Micah are tasked to find Addison and convince her of her higher purpose in life. A mission for her chosen by heaven. To find the seal of Solomon.

This is a prefect Urban fantasy/romance. The things that Jack and Addison have to work through their make them even more interesting as the story progress's along.

Henry McNulty has a wonderful voice that can melt a girl. He made Jack come across as a man's man. I loved it.

Love, Angels and Demons

In this book we're looking at how the children of either humans and angels OR humans and demons called Nephilim are protected by the Guardians. Addision is one of those people. She has so many secrets about her past that she doesn't even know herself.

This book kept me on edge. I really wanted to keep listening to it from start to finish. It also left me wanting more (I can't wait to listen to the next book). The narration was spot on and completely perfect.
