Publisher's summary

Instead of saying "I do" to Mr. Irresistible, Lucy Jorik hitches a ride on the back of a beat-up motorcycle with a rough looking, bad-tempered stranger who couldn't be more foreign to her privileged existence. While the world searches for her, Lucy must search for herself, and she quickly realizes that her customary good manners are no defense against a man who's raised rudeness to an art form. Lucy needs to toughen up - and fast.

Her great escape takes her to his rambling beach house on a Great Lakes island. Here, she hopes to find a new direction...and to unlock the secrets of this man who knows so much about her but reveals nothing about himself. As the hot summer days unfold amid scented breezes and sudden storms, she'll encounter a passion that could change her life forever.

In this dazzling follow-up to her New York Times best seller, Call Me Irresistible, Susan Elizabeth Phillips tells the funny, touching, enchanting story of a young woman searching for her destiny...and of a damaged man who doesn't believe in second chances.

Another SEP winner!!!!

What did you love best about The Great Escape?

Oh how I miss Anna Fields but Shannon does a very nice job of narrating. As usual, SEP writes an incredible story. SEP's stories are funny and very believable. And this one is no exception. Cannot wait for the next one!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Great Escape?

There have been more than one and I am not finished with the book.

What about Shannon Cochran’s performance did you like?

She did a very good job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction and it made me laugh and cry.

FABULOUS, BUT READ "CALL ME IRRESISTIBLE", FIRST

SEP is as good as it gets and most of her books are stand-alone but you really should read these 2 together and read this one second, because the set-up takes place in "Call Me Irresistible.
I have read every one of her books and these are the first two I've listened to.
I will be listening from now on because they are so great this way.
Shannon Cochran is a wonderful narrater❣️

2 Long 2 be 4 Gotten

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Should have been edited down to half the length Published

If you’ve listened to books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips before, how does this one compare?

Shannon Cochran is a new reader for Susan Elizabeth Phillips and she takes a bit getting used to but just doesn't seem a good fit.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance lacks any luster and does not add anything to the story. I found myself getting bored and disinterested.

Could you see The Great Escape being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

Any additional comments?

I really liked Meg's and Ted's story and have enjoyed most of Susan Elizabeth Phillips past books but this one seem like a she took parts of several of her past books and and re-tooled them into this one. Even the main characters nick names of "Panda and Viper" just were not appealing. Definitly not on my favorites list.

The Great Escape was unremarkable

This is my first book by SEP and found it just average. Really didn't care for the Viper character. I will try one of her earlier books that are more funny.

Not my favorite SEP.

Any additional comments?

I didn't like the narrator, her voice for the preteen boy and the heroine were similar and weird. So with that irritation in mind, I began to pick apart the story. Too many ancillary characters. The main two characters just "poof" fell in love. No real build up to a relationship. Not a SEP high point.

Good story

The Epilogue was a little brief. I wanted a little more. Maybe another
Book about their kids.

terrible narrating - not much better story

I've really enjoyed SEPs work until this one. Hard to tell if my intense dislike of The Great Escape was story-driven or because of the nauseatingly whiney way this narrator delivered the main character (among others). Just bad.

Disappointing

I am a huge SEP fan and I found this book to be very disappointing. The characters were boring and I could barely get through it. I kept thinking it would get better, but sadly it did not. There was little chemistry between any of the characters and the side bar story was distracting and added little to the overall plot. The humor, so much a part of SEP stories was lacking. Don't waste your time/money on this one.

Disappointing

Susan Elizabeth Phillips was always my "go to" author when I need a break from serious fiction. I could always count on her for a light story, a laugh, some romance, etc. This book was too formulaic, a shadow of her other novels. Might be the end of the road for me with this author.
