Publisher's summary

Instead of saying "I do" to Mr. Irresistible, Lucy Jorik hitches a ride on the back of a beat-up motorcycle with a rough looking, bad-tempered stranger who couldn't be more foreign to her privileged existence. While the world searches for her, Lucy must search for herself, and she quickly realizes that her customary good manners are no defense against a man who's raised rudeness to an art form. Lucy needs to toughen up - and fast.

Her great escape takes her to his rambling beach house on a Great Lakes island. Here, she hopes to find a new direction...and to unlock the secrets of this man who knows so much about her but reveals nothing about himself. As the hot summer days unfold amid scented breezes and sudden storms, she'll encounter a passion that could change her life forever.

In this dazzling follow-up to her New York Times best seller, Call Me Irresistible, Susan Elizabeth Phillips tells the funny, touching, enchanting story of a young woman searching for her destiny...and of a damaged man who doesn't believe in second chances.

Phillips's is always a winner

Would you listen to The Great Escape again? Why?

No, once is enough for fluff books

Any additional comments?

Phillip's books are well written for the genre. Ido not read romance books, but her's have merit

Not my favorite by this author.

I wasn't a fan of Lucy, the lead character. I found her very unbelievable and annoying. The storyline was okay but when Lucy was in her alter-ego mode, I was constantly rolling my eyes. The companion novel to this one was much better. I've read everything by this author and this was probably my least favorite.

Love this couple - they make me laugh

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The main characters are Lucy and Panda. They are both very well portrayed and lovable. Lucy is the daughter of the former female President that we met in First Lady. Lucy makes a great escape from her wedding to a great man. She just can't go through with it. She hops on the back of a beat up motorcycle with a scruffy guy, which is Panda, and off they go on a great adventure. Most of the story takes place on an Island in the Great Lakes of Michigan. I loved the setting and the grand old house they inhabited. There are several great supporting characters that the listener gets to know very well. They are all unique, well developed and outstanding. There is great dialog between Lucy and Panda and also with the other characters. Susan Elizabeth Phillips has a wonderful sense of humor. I laughed often at her phrasing and the situations the characters got themselves into. The narrator is perfect. Really really a great book.

Story fine, still miss the late Anna Fields reading

I enjoyed this story, but I miss a reader like the late Anna Fields, who was outstanding with the comedic parts of Ms. Phillips' stories. How about Amanda Ronconi or Tavia Gilbert next time?

SEP at her best!

What did you like best about this story?

I am still laughing at the characters and it's been about 3 weeks since I completed the book. It made me laugh, cry and laugh again. Can't wait for her next book!

Not up to her usual standards

I don't know, maybe I was anticipating too much. I love SEP books for for their humor, Their quirky out of the box way of looking at life. For that way of looking at things that just makes it all come together and this just didn't do it for me.
I frankly was disappointed. I had waited and waited for this book to come out. I thought the character of Lucy was flat, the story was so easy to anticipate and it just wasn't anything to write home about.
I feel bad writing a review like this because I just love everything else she has written so much, but I'm afraid this one is not up to her usual standards.

Great Book, but not her BEST

Where does The Great Escape rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have loved all of SEP books and this one ranks up there.

What other book might you compare The Great Escape to and why?

I would compare this book to "Call Me Irresistable" and it falls a little short.

Which character – as performed by Shannon Cochran – was your favorite?

Panda is my favorite. So strong, sexy, but still messed up.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When they brought up the counseling for vetrans.

Any additional comments?

I was a little upset with all the physical damage that Lucy felt she had to do to herself and distracted me from her purpose to "find" herself. However, SEP did a great job with the story and I would recommend it.
