Welcome to New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Kristen Ashley's Colorado Mountain Series, where friends become family and everyone deserves a second chance.

Love is the greatest gamble of all...

Nina Sheridan desperately needs a timeout vacation. With a fiancé who can't even remember how she takes her coffee, Nina wants some distance to rethink her engagement. Flying halfway around the world from England to a mountain town in Colorado should do the trick. But when she finds a gorgeous man at her rental cabin, Nina's cold, lonely adventure suddenly heats up.

The owner of the house, Holden "Max" Maxwell is surprised by the beautiful woman who turns up at his door. But when Nina becomes ill, Max spends days nursing her back to health. A private man with a broken heart, Max finds himself drawn to the strong-willed woman. Soon it becomes impossible for Nina and Max to deny their growing attraction to one another. Yet even as these two wounded souls think about taking a chance on a relationship, a secret from Max's past emerges—and threatens to end their love for good.

Too Alpha

I gave this 4 stars because it's an enjoyable story even though certain aspects of the story were too extreme for my taste. The hero was so Alpha that at times he was scary. In real life, a woman would be wise to cut and run from this guy. The hero and most of the other characters in the little mountain town couldn't seem to talk without cursing - a lot. There is plenty of sex but the story takes center stage.

The accent... :/

I really like this book, and the audio isnt bad, but the accent of the narrator threw me off, annoying me more than getting me into the story. Male voices, especially Max's, and other female voices were good, but Nina's character sounded like an old, cranky lady, not really "british".

Taking a gamble is shown in many ways.

I so enjoyed reading this first book about the Colorado Mountain Guys. I do believe I read the first of the series first. It took a long time for Max and Nina to get some serious action, but better late than never.

My favorite KA story by far.

Highly recommended. You will laugh (a lot), cry (a little) and experience a sexy story of true love and free falling into that love two of the nicest people. Plenty of sexy action and KA excitement. I've read it twice now - and it is going to be a book I read at least once a year going forward I am sure.

O_o

Conversation consists of "Max. Max. Max." and the word "cute". Overall, this is better than "Breathe" so I upped the stars.

Fun & Kept Me Guessing!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Gamble to be better than the print version?

Yes because the narrator's voice was entertainment in and of itself. I love Emma Taylor's voice.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nina, of course. I like the way her thought processes work.

What about Emma Taylor’s performance did you like?

Her voice truly brought the main character to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Max got on my LAST nerve. Though I suppose he is supposed to. I detested the way he kept cutting Nina off when she was trying to speak to him. For all of Nina's fire and passion for living, she sure let him talk right over her. I am married to a bossy man who thinks he knows everything and I do NOT put up with it. My bossy man has a good heart too. Know-it-all men. Hmph.

Any additional comments?

I was very surprised by the ending. I kept thinking I had it all figured out but kept being wrong. A book hasn't surprised me like that in a long while. This was my first Kristen Ashley book. I'm very happy to have found a new author! From what I've seen, she has many books to choose from and they all seem focused to my age group. Thrilled!!

Male characters are great

Would you consider the audio edition of The Gamble to be better than the print version?

yes such great performance, could not appreciate the English accent in the print version

What other book might you compare The Gamble to and why?

Just another great story from Kristen Ashley, always makes the male characters so appealing without being too macho

What about Emma Taylor’s performance did you like?

Great performance of an English accent

Any additional comments?

Have really enjoyed all of her books that I have read so far. Very strong male characters without being vulgar or crazy

Great!

I really enjoyed this audio book. Emma Taylor does a fantastic job of making all the characters come to life.
This audio was full of suspense, warm fuzzies , laughter, a little sex- not too graphic, and some tears. Definitely worth a credit. Enjoy. 😄
