Publisher's summary

A woman's desperate search to find out what happened to the daughter who disappeared seven years ago leads her from a quaint collectibles shop in New Orleans into a murky Louisiana bayou and the shadowy ancestral home of an eccentric dollmaker whose "portrait" dolls resemble missing children. Set in the steamy, violent world of the Louisiana Gulf Coast, The Dollmaker is the story of obsession, redemption, and a love reborn from the ashes of despair.

Creepy!!!

Very suspenseful in a creepy way. My only disappointment is there are no other Amanda Stevens' books on Audible.

Good could have been better.

I enjoyed The Dollmaker, however it could have been a much better book. The plot and setting were intriguing but the author let me down a little with the handling of certain events and certain side characters. Also, the narrator mispronounced many Louisiana/New Orleans place names. I was glad to have read it but would not necessarily recommend it to others.

Like the bookcover, this one is creepy

I purchased this audiobook because of a favored narrator of mine. I found it when I searched for “narrator Christian Rummel.” His performance was excellent. This is complex and I had to go back several times. Listen intently. Author Amanda Stevens pens a sad, intricate and dark tale; I did figure out the ending early on; interesting if others do as well.

What just happened?

What just happened?
Idk. This one was a wild ride and I’m still not really sure what just happened. It’s not boring, that’s for sure. It’s very very dark, very depressing. It kept me interested, although I almost stopped it a few times because it was just so gruesome. If you have triggers regarding child abductions, child abuse, or just all around messed-upness this book is not for you. There were several awful things that I still haven’t pieced together to figure out how they played into the overall story. I think I’ll be sorting this one out in my head for weeks.

Pretty Good!

I enjoyed listening to this book! It was surprisingly good and definitely worth the listening time. It was fast paced with somewhat of an original premise, and kept my attention throughout. I think I chose this book originally because of the cover art which is very intriguing and seems to beckon with whispers of creepy, creepy, creepy...totally cool!

I thought the narrator did a very good job. I love audiobooks which feature regional or native accents and part of the enjoyment for me with this book was the New Orleans twang of the characters. Loved it!

Creepily good!

I love this author and have listened to all but 2 that audible has to offer, and they will be listened to. This story has so much more to tell though, I wish there was a sequel or two. The narration was very good, one of a very few men who can come up with a believable female voice.
