Publisher's Summary

There are eight words Meg Moore has never been able to forget: The United States refuses to negotiate with terrorists. But what was merely a chilling warning when she worked as a translator in a European embassy now spells out a potential death sentence for her daughter and grandmother, who have been kidnapped by a lethal group called the Extremists.

Meg has to act - and quickly. Going against everything she was taught, she will now do anything to meet their unspeakable demands; anything - even kill - to save her child.

When John Nilsson, a Navy SEAL lieutenant, junior grade, is summoned to Washington, D.C., by the FBI to help negotiate a hostage situation, the last person he expects to see holding a foreign ambassador at gunpoint is Meg. He hasn't seen her in years, but he's never forgotten how it feels to hold her in his arms. John could lose his career if he helps her escape. She will lose her life if he doesn't.

Looking for trouble? Listen to another romantic thriller in the Troubleshooters series.

    "MUST READ !!"

This is another fabulously exciting installment to the "TroubleShooters" series. Suspenseful, historical tidbits flashing back to WWII, hot & steamy. Gotta love all of the Navy SEALS in Suzanne Brockmann's novels. A definite MUST buy, but MUST read all the books in sequential order. I love the continuous use of characters throughout the series of books AND the impending terrorist plots, turmoil, angst and hot romantic story lines continued from book to book. I will listen to this complete series more than once, twice, maybe three times or more. I've learned so much about our wonderful Navy SEALS along with the WWII flashbacks and reminders of what our service men and women do for us every day of every year. God Bless America and our Service people.

    "GET A NEW NARRATOR!!!!"

I did not care for the narrator at all. I guess Ms. Brockmann does not have approval of how people read these books and pronounce her charactors names. She-the narrator- consistantly pronounces Tom Paoletti's name incorrectly, at least differently than it is pornounced in any other book--something I found annoying. Also, there are some early signs of Ms. Brockmann's LIBERAL preaching. I don't care what her leanings are until they start taking over her books as they do in some of her later stories. The story was a good early effort, but I liked some of her 'Tall Dark & Dangerous" books better. I also wish Patrick Lawlor had narrated it.

    "Just OK"

I love most Suzanne Brockmann novels, but this one was just ok. The main storyline between Meg and Nils was frustrating at best. I tried to sympathize with Meg, but she was just too stubborn to be believable. However, the character of Nils was sweet, endearing, funny and sexy.

It was the sub-plot of Sam and Alyssa that really held my interest. Since I didn't start this series at the beginning, I was already familiar with them as a couple, but it was good to see how it all began for them. Even the memory recall by Grandma Eve of her romance back in the 1940's was more enjoyable for me than listening to Meg whine and continually resist the assistance that Nils was offering.

If you are a "Troubleshooters" fan, I don't think you should miss this story. But if this is your first attempt at this series, I'd say pick some of the other books to start with and then come back to this one. The wonderful thing about this series is that you don't have to start with the first book to understand what is going on and to become thoroughly hooked. It really is one of my favorite series!

    "Annoying Woman"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Only if they are reading the whole series. The story alone is not worth it, but the sub plots lead into back stories for future books that make it worth listening to.

    Any additional comments?

This could have been a great book, but Meg is so unlikeable and unrealistic it is annoying. However, the side stories are great, so if you can grit your teeth and get through the urge to kill the lead characters for being stupid, it's worth listening to the sub-plots since they are important for future books in the series.

What did you love best about The Defiant Hero?

Everything, although the 'back story' of grandmother Eve's reflections of WWII was really interesting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Neilsson-strong man; gets things done & Eve, the firecracker grandmother held hostage but keeps her wits about her.

Which character – as performed by Carrington MacDuffie – was your favorite?

All were great and distinct but again I go back to Eve!

"Sub plots are the best part"

The two other subplots (Eve's story and the beginning of Sam and Alyssa) were better than the main feature. Meg drove me crazy with her stubborn refusal to accept help. I suppose I could understand early on but it just took too long for her to get smart. The book is worth the read for the subplots but otherwise a bit disappointing.

    "Confusing"

Suzanne?? I am still trying to figure out as I think the other reviewers are, why did Meg "request John Nilsson" to come help her then decide he didn't know what he was doing once he got there? Very Confusing.

Subplot with Sam and Alyssa was very interesting and I loved the story line. They made the book worth listening to.

Also loved the memory recall by Grandma Eve of her romance back in the 1940's.

"The best part is the Sam and Alyssa subplot but..."

You have to put up with the really annoying Meg Moore to get to Sam and Alyssa's early story where the sparks really start to fly. Also Grandma's retelling of her love story with Ralph during WWII was moving . But really, I have no idea what Nils saw in Meg.
