Publisher's summary

The Lords of the Underworld return in this enthralling tale of an immortal warrior determined to win and the beautiful seductress he can’t resist.

Possessed by the demon of Defeat, Strider cannot lose a challenge without suffering unimaginable pain. For him, nothing stands in the way of victory. Until Kaia, an enchanting Harpy, tempts him to the razor’s edge of surrender.

Known among her people as The Disappointment, Kaia must bring home the gold in the Harpy Games or die. Strider is a distraction she can’t afford, because he has an agenda of his own - steal first prize, an ancient godly artifact, before the winner can be named. But as the competition heats up, only one prize will matter - the love neither had thought possible.

loved it! Thrilling & engaging all the way through

Love this series and this is one of my favorites. She understands him and his weakness so well but uses them to help him without babbying him. Great read but not kid approperate.

I Dare you to read this book

I am really enjoying this series and I have Gena Showalter to blame for getting me into reading romance novels. These books are so creative!

Before you read it, I would highly recommend reading all the books that come before (even the one about Kia's sister Bianca which may not be on audio). There's so much building up to this book that anyone coming to this series for the first time will not have as much fun as those who have seen the Lords and harpies in action before.

I love Max Bellmore's performance. As a fan of history I love all the various references and weavings through Greek myth so the story is awesome. 4.5 stars

Ego Check! One of my Favorites so Far!

Strider... How I love thee. This was my favorite in the series so far. I lived for Kaia. I loved how Strider tried to hold back and then tried to prove his worth that showcased good vulnerability when it came to her.

I'm writing this review after binging 6 BOOKS ! I'm about to start The Darkest Craving - Kanes story....THAT is how Consumed I have been with these books that I'm going back to give every book it's due! Gena KNOWS how to weave a story together with so many interesting plot points and and overarching story that makes you keep coming back for more!

I absolutely LOVE the LOTU and how Max narrates... it's a truly wonderful experience!

*sidenote LOL- Paris... the sexorcist.... 😂🤣 LOLOLOL!

Love this series! Have listened multiple times.

Because of this series, Gena Showalter is a must read for me. Damaged alpha males, romantic story lines, humor and lots of action. I am a happy listener.

STRIDER IS A BIG SOFTY!! LOL

Where does The Darkest Surrender rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was a good story, this is a great series!

What other book might you compare The Darkest Surrender to and why?

Well its PNR....there are lots of them!

What does Max Bellmore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Max has been great this whole series so far!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Any additional comments?

I like Strider and Kaia's story, he really didn't make it easy for her...but it all turned out the way it should. Kaia really only wanted to be loved and wanted...to be recognized as a skilled fighter and forgiven for her past mistakes...she knew she had her sisters love, but she wanted her mothers and her peoples forgiveness...she made a huge mistake when she was young..it had been centuries and people still wanted her to suffer...Harpies are cruel and vicious!!! But she sure showed them, and got the respect finally that she deserved!

Good Story!!

Not bad

The plot was decent, pacing good, heat ok as well. I’m getting a bit tired of Gena’s badass, big-mouthed heroines but this one wasn’t too bad. My only gripe is with the narrator, he has a somewhat pronounced lisp and it irritated the heck out of me, especially when he does the female voices, his “s’s” and “th’s” drag and lisp like crazy, it kept distracting me.

Harpy games, battles, and defeats..oh MY!!!

No one can defeat a Harpy. Strider has to keep reminding himself of that as Kaia makes advances and tells him that he is her Consort. No WAY! Not going to happen! Possessed by the demon of Defeat that is a no win situation for him.

Kaia has spent her life trying to make amends for an error in judgement she made as a young girl. When her sisters are asked to join the Harpy games for the first time in her life she knows this is how she can redeem herself. What she needs to be victorious though is Strider and he is fighting his attraction to her because of another mistake she made, sleeping with his friend Paris. Oops. In her defense, she did not know at the time that Strider would be her Consort. Nor did she realize her own attraction to him.

Now she must not only win the Harpy games but the heart of her man and the fight rages higher than she may be able to go!

I can tell you that I was not really of fan of Strider or Kaia. I didn’t really look forward to their story. I should have known that Gena would make me fall in love with them and cheer them on!
