Keeper of Secrets

This is a great series. If you haven't tried it then start with book 1 because GS does a great job of keeping you informed of the lives of the characters in this series. You find out interesting information in each book about various characters. This is in my Top 5 of paranormal series. I've got these in books, some in kindle (which you can get audio for a great price if you have them in kindle) and now I'm getting them in audio. Any paranormal fan wouldn't do without this series.

Max Bellmore is fantastic!

I am horribly picky when it comes to audiobooks, and I hate about 90% of the narrators. Max Bellmore is NOT one of them! He could make a cereal box interesting! Combine him with a genuinely good book, and you have an audiobook worth your money!

I REALLY REALLY LIKED THIS STORY!!!

What did you love best about The Darkest Secret?

I loved Amon and Haidee's story, and I loved how it all unfolded...just goes to show you, you can not always judge someone by their past actions..everyone has their own story, and Haidee was just as much a victim as anyone else was!

What other book might you compare The Darkest Secret to and why?

Well its PNR and there is a lot of it out there...this one was really good though!

Which character – as performed by Max Bellmore – was your favorite?

Strider, Paris and William had some Hilarious scenes...and I loved Kaia!!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Oh this series would make great movies!!

Any additional comments?

I loved this one, I loved Amon and Haidee's story! This one is a bit of a different vibe, and it had some really sexy scenes in it...also some complete hilarity...Amon is a complex charater, and he really is a good man...Haidee was very misunderstood and had a really interesting back story....I am so glad it all worked out the way it did!! LOVED IT!!! On to book 8!!!

Pretty good addition to the series :)

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good story. I liked Amun and Haidee and their story was enjoyable but I had a bit of trouble getting into it as much as the previous books.

Haidee is a demon assassin. She was among some of the early victims of the demon infested immortals and ended up unknowingly drafted into the war against them. Haidee found that every time she died, she woke again a few days later with only her bad memories of her past lives and never good ones. Haidee hated the demons because of how her life was ruined and joined the hunters through the years to help fight against the demons.

Amun is one of the immortal warriors that was responsible for opening Pandora's box and unleashing the demons onto the Earth. As a way to imprison the demons and punish the warriors responsible, the Greek gods decided that the warriors would be made hosts to the demons. Amun became the host to the demon of secrets. He hears everyone's dirty little secrets and is mostly silent in order to keep all those secrets inside.

In the previous book, Amun agree to help another LotU with a task in Hell. When they were down there, Amun became infested by many lower level demons that infused him with an evil aura so bad that anyone near him is driven to do evil things. They were rescued by angels but because Amun is dangerous, the angels stuck around the fortress of the LotU to guard Amun and kill him if necessary. While all this was going on, Strider captured Haidee who he thought was just another hunter (although he soon realized she was more than a regular human). Strider managed to get her back to the LotU fortress and she ends up locked in a room next to Amun's.

There's a link between Amun and Haidee (explained later in the story) that enables her to hear him calling for her help and propagates the attraction/connection between them once she manages to make it to his room. Haidee finds that Amun's infestation seems to recede when she's near and his mind clears and he's able to function again. They find that there's a chance that Haidee can help Amun get rid of his infestation completely but to do so, they have to make a perilous journey. While on this journey, Haidee and Amun get to know each other and realize that they both have some responsibility for their past issues and that they can't deny the need to be together in the future. There are some major issues to get through but they do end the story with a HEA together.

This was an enjoyable story. I liked both Haidee and Amun. I'm not sure why I didn't get into this story as much as previous ones (I almost rated it 3 stars) but there were some external distractions that might have been affecting me. It also might be partially because I didn't like Strider's interest in Haidee...she's Amun's and Strider (who hasn't exactly endeared himself to me) is supposed to be falling for his woman in the next book so no way was I liking that! There were a few points that I wasn't thrilled with but regardless of that, the story was pretty good and I liked the characters so I'd still recommend this story and series. :)

A bit stranger than others in the series

But not in a bad way. I enjoyed this book as much as I have all the others and continue to be impressed by both Gena Showalter and Max Bellmore. I've read each of these in order and wouldn't recommend doing it any other way. Each story builds on the previous and you get introduced to each character as they come into the world. It makes it easier to keep them all straight if you get to know them that way.

Too long

I would have enjoyed this book more if it was 2-3 hours shorter. It was an interesting story, but just so wordy.

Amun, the keeper of secrets, has just been rescued from hell where he had endured the awful thoughts the demons harbored, which was too much for Amun. He basically shut down to where he is catatonic or he is going berserk to where no one can soothe his demon possessed body. Well, no one except Haidee, a hunter sworn to take out the Lords. She was the very one who lured and murdered Baden, so the idea of her with a Lord wasn’t easy to swallow.
Haidee thought Amun was her old boyfriend Micah, and that he was a prisoner of the Lords, so she planned to rescue him and avenge Amun for his suffering at the hands of the Lord. The problem was that Amun’s touch, kisses and everything seem to turn her on more than Micah used to.
What will this hunter do when she discovers that the man she is in love with is not her beloved Micah, but one of her sworn enemy, a Lord of the Underworld?
I liked this story, but it was too long. I was trying to figure out how Strider & Micah would fit into this love triangle/quadrangle. I did like them as a couple and I liked that Haidee acknowledged her attraction to Amun as being much stronger than Micah. I am not enjoying this series as much as I used to and I am a little hesitant to read the next book.

Secrets revealed

Would you consider the audio edition of The Darkest Secret to be better than the print version?

Yes, but just a little. The story is very good and the audio just makes it stand out.

What other book might you compare The Darkest Secret to and why?

Darkest Lies and Darkest Seduction, because both stories emphasize just how important the woman are to these man. It also show more camaraderie and understanding within the couples.

What about Max Bellmore’s performance did you like?

Excellent as always

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Secrets Revealed

Any additional comments?

This series reminds me a little of Christine Feehan's Dark Series.
