His powers - inhuman; His passion - beyond immortal. All her life, Ashlyn Darrow has been tormented by voices from the past. To end the nightmare, she has come to Budapest seeking help from men rumored to have supernatural abilities, not knowing she'll be swept into the arms of Maddox, their most dangerous member - a man trapped in a hell of his own. Neither can resist the instant hunger that calms their torments...and ignites an irresistible passion. But every heated touch and burning kiss will edge them closer to destruction - and a soul-shattering test of love.

Good read but audio moves it along slowly.

The story line is a bit slow, but all in all it is entertaining.
The audio reader, well sometimes his voice, reminds me of Patrick from the "Spongebob Square Pants," cartoon series.
I am not saying he does a bad job, but I have a difficult time shaking that imagine from my head. This doesn't put me off from purchasing the 2nd audiobook, however. I will give it another go. I can get past this....think hot stud, think hot stud, not ...Patrick....

Erotic para normal series

Would you consider the audio edition of The Darkest Night to be better than the print version?

Never read the print version

What did you like best about this story?

It is an erotic para normal novel series, and this is the first book of the series. I like urban fantasy, and this covers it pretty good. The erotica also is pretty heavy so if you're not looking for that then pass this series by. It will only get more intense as each book progresses. I did enjoy the story and have continued through the entire series. Also there is some very intense and graphic depictions of torture. Each book has something along those lines. After all were dealing with demons.

Which character – as performed by Max Bellmore – was your favorite?

I enjoyed every character

rough to finish

I did not care for how the characters were conveyed. The voices felt flat. I didn't believe the love story. Took several breaks to listen to other stories during reading this.

A great read

The Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Have you listened to any of Max Bellmore’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Any additional comments?

This book is a must read. I can not wait to read the next one in this series.

Worth a credit but......

This is the first book in the Lords of the Underworld series. There is a 0.5 book that I read first. So far that has not helped enough for me to suggest that everyone do the same.

I enjoyed this book and will probably read the next book. However I found it hard to follow all the characters and what demon they posses. I noticed in another review, someone has listed this out. What a good idea. I suggest reading that review or writing down all the characters as they are mentioned. She does repeat but I think things would have been more clear to me had I done that. Otherwise a good supernatural romance novel. Good tension between main 2 characters. With a couple steamy parts. Good twists to prevent guessing the ending. I would have given 5 stars across that board had I been able to keep better track of characters.

Excellent story

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Maddox was a bit rough in the beginning but after he warmed to Ashlyn, he was great. Max Bellmore did an awesome job with the narration.

Darkenss and Torture Brings You to Tears

This book was amazing. The world building was fantastic. It was descriptive with a variety of language and literacy to keep you engaged. A combination of English and Hungarian and the scenes changed. They were not just a repeat from previously read in the book. You could feel the depth of characters, their weaknesses, strengths, wants and desires. The playfulness, anger, frustration and confusion are clear. If you read the prequel you know where Pandora’s Box came from and it has a variety of names used. And it also explains how and why it was lost. Now the lords pay the consequences for the choices they made in their involvement. They have been bonded to a demon. This book occurred centuries/thousands of years after The Darkest Fire

Book 1 The Darkest Night is about Maddox and Ashlyn. Both are tormented and endure pain. Maddox Killed Pandora with 6 stabs of the blade into the stomach killing her and is cursed to repeat it nightly at midnight. Reyes has to kill him and Lucien has to escort him to Hell after. Torin spots Ashlyn on the monitors in the woods and sends Maddox after her to find out if she is a hunter or bait. After killing the 4 men that followed her he spots her and wants to kill her but can’t.

Ashlyn has the gift/curse of hearing anything that was said in a single spot no matter the time current or centuries before. She was raised in and institution after the age of 5 because she could not control it and her parents couldn’t or wouldn’t deal with it anymore and they wanted a normal life. So for the next 20 years she was initially imprisoned and then started to work for them. Telling the institution where abnormal beings were located and about them believing she was doing good for humanity. Then curiosity got the better of her and she wanted to meet the angels on the hill that she heard about. Then she meets Maddox and silence sweet silence occurs.

The entire story occurs in about a week and at the beginning I was interested and waiting to hear something familiar. But somehow when reading the series a few years back I never actually picked up the 1st book, so I was very pleased to have questions answered and I loved the story. Halfway through there was a glitch and music starting playing and they introduced the book which was annoying but within a few minutes that all stopped. There were several surprised that I was like HUN? What is important about that and them whammy at the end I was like damn I can’t believe I didn’t figure that out before? All in all it was a well-executed book and similar in a dark fashion like the black dagger brotherhood series.
Max continued to be an excellent narrator for the series with his sexy dark a sin voice. True there wasn’t much changes in his male voices but in reality I really different notice it. The writing and the vocal tone differences made it possible to tell the difference. This was an excellent find and glad to see that I can now listen to the LOTU instead of just reading about them. Great job Gina and Max!!

This is well worth a credit to enjoy over and over or if you’re not sure check it out under the romance package.
