Amazing!!

I was apprehensive to buy this book in the beginning but I'm so glad that I did. This has turned into one of my favorite series and authors. Showalter does an amazing job building the fictional world but never losing sight of the romance building for both the main characters and future books. Highly recommend this book/series!!!

Almost the ame voice used for all the characters.

The story was great. The voice actor didn't make the voices different enough to tell the difference. Plus odd pauses and not enough emotion put into the reading made it difficult to listen to.

Great New Paranormal Romance Series

By day, immortal warrior Maddox lives among his fellow Lords Of The Underworld in their Budapest castle as they try to stay away from the human world, for their demon companions urge them to do all manner of evil. However by night, Maddox is doomed to die a painful, terrible death and spend his time in hell's inferno. Centuries ago Maddox and his immortal brothers released the horde of demons from Pandora's box and as punishment, the gods cursed the warriors to each host a demon inside themselves. Maddox is the Keeper of Violence! When strangers are detected trying to invade their compound, the Lords believe they are Hunters, who want to destroy them, so Maddox is sent to kill them, for there is no greater warrior. Ashlyn was born with an ability to stand in one location and hear every conversation that has ever taken place there, which has been a nightmare for her. She'd do anything to stop the voices! When Maddox finds Ashlyn in the woods, even though he thinks she's Bait sent by the Hunters to entrap him, he is instantly drawn to her. For Ashlyn, being around Maddox is a miracle since the voices she constantly hears have suddenly ceased, as if they are as afraid of him as she should be! Maddox cannot help himself and takes her home with him, where the two will find themselves edging closer to a soul-searing test of love. Will this cursed couple be able to overcome great odds to be together? And what about the other cursed Lords: Lucien, Keeper of Death; Reyes, Keeper of Pain and all the others? Readers can look forward to their immediate sequels, THE DARKEST KISS and THE DARKEST PLEASURE The truly remarkable Gena Showalter has given paranormal romance fans everything they could want in her amazing new Lords Of The Underworld series.

Interesting Story line

I like the premise of this series and did get hooked in but thought it was a bit overdone in some ways. Would have preferred some less graphic love scenes. The dialog there was a but much and became quite predictable.

GREAT READ!

Author did an excellent job of developing characters throughout the series. Just enough love, sex, intrigue and turmoil. A little predictible, of course, but still a great read! Narrator is a little slow and drawn out BUT you get used to him. The only downside is that Audible does not offer all of the books in the series - I'm off to B&N to find the rest!

Series shows promise.....but.....

As the first book of a series this book wasn't bad. The characters were strong and captured the interest of the reader. I plan on reading more of the series. The only thing that I didn't like about the book was the fact that there was way to many characters in the book. And since each character shared another character (demon) inside them that made it even more confusing. I think if the narrator had been better at giving each character a distinct voice and/or personality it would have helped a lot. Also I think the explanation surrounding the curse could have been written a little clearer. I hope that it will be more clear as the series goes on.

Tried...

All I can say is I'm glad it was free. Barely making it through the book, I'm not invested at all in finding out what happens to anyone. The narrators somewhat cheery, but somehow still monotone, narration doesn't really make me wan to listen to it either.

I will try the next book to see if both story and narrator can make me want to finish it.

Sacrifice ends violence

What made the experience of listening to The Darkest Night the most enjoyable?

It enriched the character's personality. You are able to understand the characters action and feelings.

What other book might you compare The Darkest Night to and why?

All the books to this series compare to this book. Also Blackdagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward is like this series. The characters are special and when they meet their women their lives change.

Which character – as performed by Max Bellmore – was your favorite?

In this book it would be Anya. I like her attitude and Bellmore brings that across in this audiobook.

Any additional comments?

Great series.
