Publisher's summary

Abby has been through hell and has survived one of the most brutal childhoods imaginable. To the outside world, she is just a loner with an attitude. When her grandmother dies in a tragic explosion, Abby is left with questions - and nothing else. Homeless, sleeping in a junkyard, and on the run from a system that has failed her over and over again, she meets Jake, a tattooed, blue-eyed biker with secrets that rival her own. Two broken souls that can't be healed. They can't be saved. Abby and Jake have to decide if they can accept the darkness not only within one another but within themselves. If they can accept each other for who they really are, they might be able to learn that love isn't always found in the light.

Captivating story, unfortunately the narrative LACKS terribly

I was very disappointed with this audio. The story itself was wonderful. However, the narration by Lucy Rivers when it came to the male parts made me cringe to the point where I considered stopping the audio & finishing the book myself. Seriously, the female parts were just fine but it was horrible when it came to Mrs Rivers speaking the male parts. I think it's deceiving to say that this audio is Narrated by Christian Fox & Lucy Rivers because Mr Fox is only used for the prologue & epilogue other than that, it's ALL Lucy Rivers & like I said the female narrative was good, great even but when it came to her doing the male part, I cringed :(

GRITTY, RAW & DARK... BUT BEAUTIFULLY EPIC TOO

This book, wow wow wow.... this book is every bit as brilliant as my fellow Reviewers have said it is and it absolutely drew me in from the Prologue, kept me riveted hanging on to every one of its unpredictable Chapters and left me floored and sated by the end of the Epilogue. It's not an easy listen - there's conflict, violence, tragic child abuse (threatened but not sexual), rape and an assumption that led to four years of heartbreak. But weaved through it all is beautiful love story where two damaged people find each other, recognize the other's pain, heal one another..... and learn how to love.

Abby is homeless, a run-away and has suffered more misery in her seventeen years of life than any one person should and she's got the emotional and physical scars to prove it. But it didn't break her... because, underneath her mistrust, mental scars, emotional hang-ups and hatred at being touched, is a damaged young woman crying out to be understood, to be helped and to be loved. Although the twenty two year old handsome lone Biker Jake has also had brutal heartbreaking childhood traumas too, he sees Abby, he gets Abby, he helps Abby, he heals a part of Abby meant for only him.... and he loves every light and dark part of her. And Abby, in return, gives him so much more than just her heart in return.

But this all-consuming well written story isn't all dark.... there's light humor too especially as Abby and Jake slowly get to know each other with a prolonged Q and A game where most of the A at the start are "pass" and by the end of it they know each other's worst secrets and shared nightmares. Their banter easily flows and they think their soul deep connection is unbreakable.... and it is - but a rumor changes everything and, for four years, these two kindred spirits went their separate ways and were lost to each other. However, their destinies were entwined and eventually they learnt the truth, battled human demons, fought for a second chance, forgave one another and became a loving family. The Prologue and Epilogue are the only parts told from Jake's POV and this was well narrated by Christian Fox - the main book was told from Abby's POV by Lucy Rivers and she did a great job at capturing the torment, the emotional highs and lows, the heartbreak and the beauty... and gave the weird, the wacky, the wicked and the loveable characters a voice and a heartbeat.

Worth a credit? Absolutely YES.... a story honed in Hell - painful haunted memories of two tortured souls who were lucky enough to find their kindred spirit... that one person who understood, accepted and unconditionally loved every light and dark part of you.

I like the story

this is not a dual narrated book. Lucy Rivers is the one who read the book. I do not like her male voice. Fox only read the prelude and the end of the book. Book would have been better if this was read with dual narration. The story is good.

I WAS WIPED OUT BY THE END OF THIS BOOK

This book drew me in like a moth to a flame. It was so emotionally captivating from the very beginning, I listened practically in one sitting. There are points of the book that are so dark and devastating, I literally found myself grimacing and wasn't sure how I'd get through it. Honestly at one point I thought I might stop listening, but I was so thoroughly and completely riveted and drawn into this tortured world of Abbi and Jake, I had to power through. I loved it--emotional drain and all, this was a great story. TM Frazier is truly one of my favorites now.

The narrator drove me crazy!

The story was ok , everything happened to fast for me though, they fell head over heels in love in just a matter of a few days... , it felt rushed .I absolutely loved the first 2 books ...I already pre-ordered Bear, I seriously hope it's like King, and NOT like this one.
The narrator? NO! She did Abby good, but her male voice! She had the habit of making the last word of his sentence louder and flat...and it didn't start right of the bat, but as you got into the book more. Very DISTRACTING! Do you remember being in school , and someone struggling with being able to read? or put emotion into the story?

Iffy

I'm kind of mixed on this one. I can literally read anything. I have no hard limits or triggers, but even with that attitude... I started getting irritated by the amount of shiz in this book. I felt like it was just pushed too far and possibly for shock purposes? Having a book that is 95% negative is just a bummer.

With that out of the way, it was entertaining and I feel like it was well written. Christian Fox only does the prologue and epilogue. I was kind of bummed about that.

Graphic erotica...starring a minor

YA novel with little Y about it. Unrealistic and lacks taste. Girl suffers unimaginable abuse and suddenly heals in an instant from some awesome dick. Nope.

Good story

The basic story is good. But most events were drug out and overly described. I used my 30 sec fast forward quite a bit.

Put down what you are doing and listen to this book!

Amazing...the ups make you want to cry as much as the gut-wrenching downs in this book. The narrator does a great job capturing this story from start to finish. A little dark as the title describes, but wouldn't have this story any other way.

This book was so dark and yummy! I loved that no matter what you thought was going to happen... you were most likely wrong... or at least I was. These characters had such a rough past and I loved that they found a little happiness eventually. Great book!!!

Loved the narration too!
