Great! Great! Great!

I am only a third thru this listen but already its greatness shines through.
The story is excellent -
the words flow off the page like good old wine while the narrator does a great job.
I have laughed out loud and tears have flowed more times than I can remember for another
audio book.

I am hoping that I can sip the rest of it like good old wine - but know that I am doomed to fail. It's worth more than a credit so enjoy!

could not make it to 3rd chapter

What would have made The Crossroads Cafe better?

The only reason I gave perforance one star is because I wasn't allowed to go any further leaving it blank.I could not stand Kathy Bell Denton's voice, and being from the South, I can honestly say that I have never heard anyone talk that slow. Before giving up on it, I had started yelling at her to talk faster. The first thing to do to make this book better is to have it reread by someone who actually knows how to read a book!

Would you ever listen to anything by Deborah Smith again?

I have listened to or read her other books, and yes, I would keep listening to them. As long as they are read by someone else!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She spoke for the men as if they were recovering from a brain injury, and having to learn to speak again.

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Couldn't get far enough into story to find any redeeming qualities.

Any additional comments?

I'm hoping that I can get my credit back. What a waste, a big waste.

narration detracts from the story

Any additional comments?

Other reviewers seemed to like this one so maybe it's just me, but I could not stand the narration. The story itself was great, but the narrator read so slowly it completely ruined the story. It was like listening to paint dry. There were long pauses between sentences and even in the middle of sentences. Not to mention the times she stumbled over words. I'm all for a narrator that draws out the story to build suspense, but this one just made me comatose trying to get through it.

Might be aor good story but

This narrator is so horrid that even setting the speed faster, I could not stand it. After listening or 30 minutes, I was crazy and wanting a refund.

Good story WORST production

So.... I really liked this book
However the production quality of the audio version is the WORST I've ever experienced.

-Can you say nose whistle? What? It was through-out the whole book. (Not to mention swallows and other mouth noises)

-The reader .....has..... long pauses.........that....are very ....distracting. (Although she had a nice voice and portrayed characters well)

-The volume went up and down, up and down. At one point, I had turn my volume up to Max and I still couldn't hear it.

-Pages turning and other back ground noise. I think I even heard someone speaking once.

It was WEIRD.

Did they record this in someones living room?

Still the story was very good

4 1/2 stars-story and Deborah Smith

3 stars- The reader

0 stars- the production

Great book, horrible recording

This is a really good story, nearly ruined by the narrator's painfully slow reading, mispronunciations, smacking and swallowing noises, bizarre pauses in the middle of words and sentences. The recording quality is equally bad. Lots of background fuzz. If the story wasn't so good, I wouldn't have listened past the first hour.

Worst quality recording I have ever gotten

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Anyone that reads it ... maybe

What did you like best about this story?

The story is interesting enough and I really want to listen to the rest of it but...the quality of this recording is horrible. There is so much background noise that it distracts from the narrator. I read lots of reviews on the narrator and people not liking her and I don't even have an issue with that if it didn't sound like she is standing outside in the wind.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book

My first book by this author and narrator and I just loved every minute of it. Thomas is by far my favourite character - although he struggles with his own hurt he manages to be both compassionate and dependable.

Bad Narrator

This is probably a good book, but I will have to read it. I just could not take the long pauses that served no purpose.
