The Contract: Uncovering You, Book 1 | [Scarlett Edwards]

The Contract: Uncovering You, Book 1

When I wake up in a dark, unfamiliar room, I have no idea what's waiting for me in the shadows. My imagination conjures up demons of the worst kind. Reality is much worse: A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning. A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning. I am presented with a vile contract and asked to sign. It outlines the terms of my servitude.

Publisher's Summary

When I wake up in a dark, unfamiliar room, I have no idea what's waiting for me in the shadows. My imagination conjures up demons of the worst kind.

Reality is much worse:

A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning.

I am presented with a vile contract and asked to sign. It outlines the terms of my servitude. The only information I have about my captor are the two small letters inked at the bottom:

J.S.

Armed with only my memories, I must do everything I can to avoid becoming ensnared in his twisted mind games. But in the end, it all comes down to one choice:

Resist and die.

Or submit, and sign my life away.

    Story
"Don't get sucked in if your Audible Listener."
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Audible has put the first book on sale for Audible listeners to rope you into liking the series which in reality is a few chapters sold as books. Right now there are 4 books available and you can choose to use a credit or pay $4+ for each additional book. I was taught that a book should have a beginning, middle and end well aparrently this is no longer true. Just when you get into the book it stops it just freakin ends. I know that I am being redundant but I really want to express how annoyed I am that I started listening to this "book" that just stops in the middle of the story development. I do not write reviews because I can hardly ever get my thought together enough in writing to express them but since I feel so strongly about not supporting this author I am doing my best to express my complete dislike this style of book writing. I am hoping to prevent anyone and everyone from making the same mistake that I have. It's just plain wrong and disappointing.

Would you recommend The Contract to your friends? Why or why not?

Not at all. If the series happens to be available for the price of one book yes the story seems like it could be good.

What about Amy Johnson’s performance did you like?

Easy listening. I listen too my books at work and I got drawn in to the story. I didn't end up tuning the story out while doing other task.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Make it one or two listens. I don't mind paying to read a book I like. But, writing a couple of chapters and call it a book is insulting to your readers/listeners.

    Any additional comments?

Completely bummed that I want to follow the story but feel that support a bad product will encourage this to be the norm.

    "WOW!"

OMG! I need the rest of this series like yesterday! I have never rated a 5-star for part of a series...but Man this was awesome for the way the book started...

Very Very dark romance... just the way I like my darky romance... their seriously has to be some level of violence to be called dark... and boy this did not disappoint... I think...as the thick of the story hasn't even been told...but from how this book started and the main (H) character's personality.... so far.. You know he is one crazy so and so....!

I need more than 2hrs of this story.... Come on Audible... give me more!!!

Narration was great... and for 4 bucks.... why not save a credit...

    "wait; what!!???"

I guess I didn't realize this was a short novella. It has the potential to be good. Loved the end & I'm going to have to finish the series now but the middle parts were somewhat irritating. Moments of..."this is about to get good" but then it just kind of lagged a little. But like I said; I'm going to have to read the rest

    "Offensive at Best"
Would you try another book from Scarlett Edwards and/or Amy Johnson?

I thought Amy Johnson did a very good job narrating probably the most offensive, awful, degrading, demeaning, piece of trash I've ever had the misfortune to listen to. What part of, involuntary imprisonment, torture, starvation, manipulation through violent physical and mental abuse coupled with violent rape do you folks find entertaining, because I'm not seeing it... at all!!!!!!

What was most disappointing about Scarlett Edwards’s story?

    Wow, where do I start?
    1. It's offensive
    2. It sexualizes cruelty and violence
    3. It is absolutely demeaning and degrading to women - unless you like to read about a woman held against her will, starved into subservience, brutalized and stripped of her dignity - and that's just the first two hours.
    4. The story line is absurd

Have you listened to any of Amy Johnson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Contract?

    All of it!!!

    Any additional comments?

What a total waste of time and money, horrible!!!!

I didn't find this book very good although it's only the start of the series, the future books are a lot better. This book you should read once to understand how the story began but it's not a re-read.

    "Very Dark"

For a short book i found that i had to purchase it based on review of someone i follow. I usually do not purchase books that are a short read but this one had me intrigued. Scarlett Edwards did a fantastic job and the narration was perfect. Def can't wait until the next book come out so that i can see what is going to happen to the "h".

4 two hour stories, I was hooked at #1. Similar to Consequences and interesting enough for me to continue. Narrator was ok, not the best.

"Love to Hate this Dark and Captivating Book"

I should know better than to start a series that is only 2 hours in length. Just when it is getting good you have “To Be Continued” stuck in your face. This book’s content is dark and suspenseful. You don’t know if you love it or hate it. In the end you love it but I wish there was more. J.S. is just a bit sick yet the author writes this story in a way that you cannot hate him. You are intrigues by him and why he kidnapped Lilly. She is just a confused victim in all of this and you think Stockholm syndrome. In the end this book keeps you wanting more. I don’t understand why authors write these little stories unless it is for a money grab. You end up paying more than usual for the entire story and this is why I don’t usually buy in. However, this one intrigued me enough to break my own advice. I am not disappointed. I am hooked and will need to continue on.
