anti-climactic

so much anticipation with this and it just popped into place very nicely from the first page. what was the point? the build up of the 2 was very flat. no development or tension. what a waste of a hero!! and looking for a goblet - are we still Grimms fairytales? really lame. also it was not a believable story with 3 kidnappings etc. there should have been a little more meat on the bone.
shame as it could have been sooo muh better.
Ms. laurens - a little more planning for the next one please!

Absolutely love Stephanie Laurens & Cynster books

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes. It would have taken longer to read, lol

What did you like best about this story?

Following the Cynster's, of course.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I didn't really enjoy the voice. Not what I imagine a female Cynster to sound like. Too weak and timid, not strong and confident.

Could you see The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I don't know. It might would take away from the book.

Any additional comments?

Not sure I will get another book with this narrator?

Unique story line, likable characters

Kind of a far-fetched storyline, but what the heck, it’s a romantic novel! The romance was well written. It’s hard to find a man who can do good women’s voices and even harder to find a woman who can do credible men’s voices. Brenhers women all sound pretty much the same, Not as strong as their characters are supposed to be. I miss Simon Prebble‘s version of Devil Cynster, all gravelly and authoritative.Having said that, this was my second reading of this book, still enjoyed it.

Now we know why kidnappings

Date: 1829 June

Chronology: set after In Pursuit of Eliza Cynster; before The Truth About Love

Antecedents: Angelica Cynster is the youngest sister of Gabriel aka Rupert Cynster who married Alathea Morwellan in April 1820, and Lucifer aka Alasdair Cynster who married Phyllida Tallent in June 1820. Read Gabriel’s story in A Secret Love, and Lucifer’s story in All About Love. Her older sister Heather is engaged to Timothy Danvers. You can read their story in Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue. Breckenridge first appears in The Ideal Bride with his biological stepmom Caroline Sutcliffe and Michael Anstruther-Wetherby, who is Honoria’s brother.
Her sister Eliza is engaged to Jeremy Carling and their story is In Pursuit of Eliza Cynster. Jeremy first appears in The Bastion Club novel The Lady Chosen featuring his sister Leonora Carling who married Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham in Feb 1816.

When Angelica sees her hero from across a ballroom she knows he’s the one and sets out to meet him. Since he’s there to kidnap her, Dominic Goosigan aka Viscount Debenham aka the Earl of Glencrae can’t believe his luck. When they’re alone he tells her about his situation and how he needs help that only she can offer. Angelica agrees and helps plan their escape from London, travel through Scotland, and recovery of the stolen Regalia Cup.
Laurens does a great job with the storyline and characters. In fact, I think Dominic and Angelica are my favorite of the three sisters stories.
Brenher still has some mispronunciations but, overall, did a pretty good job with narration.

My absolute favorite

I have read this series probably 15 times now but this is my first time listening to the audio. Every single time I make it to Dominic and Angelica's story, I can't handle the happiness. The ending is perfection. easily my favorite SL book.

A Waste of Time and Money

I bought this book at the recommendation of others on this site who claimed the third and last book in the series was better than the other two, including "wonderful" and " a great wurprising and warm ending." To me, it was as bad as the others: NO PLOT, repetitive debates of "does he really love me or not", and the noble Earl debating how he can save his clan and save the reputation of Angelica. The dialogue between the lovers and the love scenes are boring with little dynamics or passion. The first 5 hours or so revolve around trying to decide how to get out of London without being caught. Meanwhile Angelica who has found her "hero" - no reason given other than she has the magic necklace around her neck -- and agrees to cooperate with the Earl, won't agree to marry the Earl, but still spends the time redecorating his London house and polishing his silver. Then the next 5 hours or so are spent traveling to the castle, looking at maps, staying in inns and trying to decide whether to sleep together. The scene when they finally have sex together is so stupid: She surpirses him by showing up naked in his bed and then proceeds to give him a multi-point speech about why they should have sex. Only the last couple hours, of this very long book, deal with the crazy mother and why she wants revenge against the Cynsters, and the final wrap-up of the series. Stephanie Laurens has been one of my favorite authors, but this series has been truly awful! The series is nothing like the earlier Cynster novels with fasinating plots and characters. It makes me wonder if I'll ever buy another book by Laurens.

Disappointing performance

What disappointed you about The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae?

I have been hooked on Stephanie Lauren's Cynster series for years and realized, for the first time that what I truly enjoyed was Simon Prebble's reading. This time I could barely manage to listen to the end; Matthew Brenher was utterly disappointing - made the story seem quite boring.
Alas, it seems Mr. Prebble has moved on to other authors and in my opinion it is Ms. Laurens's loss.

What was most disappointing about Stephanie Laurens’s story?

The performer.

It went on, and on, and on....

Aside from dragging on & on, it was totally unbelievable. I like Stephanie Laurens, but not this time.... Won't buy another "Cynster" novel - ever!!
