Publisher's summary

When the dashing Jack Carstares is unfairly accused of cheating at cards, he leaves the country in disgrace. Returning some years later disguised as a highwayman, his reappearance heralds a dramatic chain of events that includes a Duke, a damsel, a duel, and not one, but two kidnappings. Written when she was just 17, The Black Moth was Heyer’s first novel, but it bears many of the hallmarks of her later romances, being vivid, witty, and peppered with historical insight.

The most addicting author! Pure fun

There is nothing like a good romance replete with humor, goodness, a complicated villain, family bonds and top that off with a fabulous performance and you have it!

What a Career Beginning

Georgette Heyer may have begun writing to entertain her sick brother, but her genius shines through. and Mr. Rhina-Tutt does a superb job of narration. If you’re wondering which version to get… get this one.

Excellent Narration

Rhind-Tutt perfectly captures each character,, especially the Duke. I wish he narrated These Old Shades, the later enhancementt of Heyer's first novel.

The Black Moth by Georgette Heyer

The narrator was excellent. His range of voice was wonderful for all the characters he portrayed. The story was excellent in the sense that the characters were expressive in their feelings and actions. I enjoyed the book throughout and at no time was there a lull. Highly recommend.

A great story with wonderful narration

I had read The Black Moth a few years ago and fully enjoyed it. The second time through with the Audible version was even better. The narrator was excellent and added further to my appreciation of Ms. Heyer’s writing. She is known for doing extensive research for her books. It is amazing that she wrote this first book, when she was about 19 years old to entertain her brother when he was ill. Her thorough understanding of the Georgian period is evident throughout the story and leads the reader to feel immersed in the era. (Most of her books are set in the Regency era, though a few besides this one are from an earlier time.)
I must mention the narration again. Mr. Rhind-Tutt did an amazing job of capturing the various personalities and portraying the range of emotions. I plan to look for others books he has narrated.
I hope that you enjoy this audiobook as much as I. If this is your first book by Georgette Heyer, welcome to an amazing new author.

the best of the best!

A story of swashbuckling adventure, chivalrous romance, and a dastardly villain, liberally sprinkled with humor. Masterfully narrated, this audiobook is a pleasure I have enjoyed many times. Highly recommend!

Superb performance elevates second tier Heyer

Julian Rhind-Tutt’s performance of Georgette Heyer’s first published novel is nothing short of masterful. A wide array of characters of various social classes cross the stage and he gives the heightened drama all the breathless excitement and none of the tedium you might expect. I will be seeking out more of this accomplished narrator’s work. Right now.

Delightful First Story!

I LOVE this book! I am a Heyer addict and yet had not read this, her first, til now. And it is actually wonderful to come to this later. I know TOS almost by heart, so reading TBM and seeing it as the first draft of TOS was fascinating. The reading is a little over dramatic, but non the worse for that. Imagine, at 19, creating this exciting, witty, dramatic story. The kidnapping is quite scary.. and Jenny is almost my favorite four legged character that GH has imagined.
