Publisher's summary

The heiress to the Bellerose estate has gone missing and what a waste of a dowry it is! Charlotte Bellamy's future husband, Lord Geoffrey Seavers, is in desperate need to finance his royal fleet, yet somehow Charlotte disappeared and the Bellamy inheritance slipped through his fingers. Enter Alicia, a tavern maid of uncertain parentage. Yes, she's a bit young and headstrong, but no one at court has actually ever seen the Lady Bellamy, and Alicia's beauty, poise, and bearing are enough to fool the king. At least, that's what Geoffrey hopes when he proposes the Bellerose bargain: Alicia must pose as Charlotte, marry Geoffrey, split the dowry, fake her death, then both can part ways wealthier than they ever dreamed. Everything goes according to plan at first. Alicia charms King Charles II and his court easily, but did Geoffrey, her "business partner," have to be so dashing, tempestuous and oh-so-irresistible? Falling in love wasn't supposed to be part of the bargain…Worst of all, someone at court knows the true Charlotte Bellamy and recognizes Alicia for who she is. The truth of her past and the lies of her present are about to collide, and suddenly, Alicia and Geoffrey have more than they bargained for. Set in Restoration England, The Bellerose Bargain is full of passion, conspiracies, and intrigue. Fans of Virgin River are sure to love this historical novel written with Robyn's trademark zest for life.

Delightful Revisit

I read this book and enjoyed it years ago so when it became came available on Audible I had to revisit it. This delightful story is somewhat predictable but extremely charming. The heroine is Alicia who is a young girl that grew up in undesirable circumstances. She learns to be strong and how to take care of herself despite her situation. The hero, Jeffrey, is a workaholic who doesn't have time for love. Together they scheme and learn that love is never easy but worth the effort.

Susan Duerden did a nice job narrating the tale.

I think teen girls (and girls at heart) will really enjoy this romantic book. Its still worth a credit but because the price is reasonable I bought this one instead of using a credit.

A better book by R Carr than my last read with her

Any additional comments?

A resistant, tall, and handsome Lord and a beautiful lady going from poor to riches make for a great romance. The story is exciting and truly kept my interest all throughout the book. The most touching part of the book was the brother who never gave up trying to find her baby sister who was lost from toddlerhood. I love the British historical romances and find myself always disappointed when they leave London to set out for America. That part of this book actually bothered me even more since it was hard for me to feel the romance and be happy for her new found wealth when slaves built it for them. Thankfully the author did not elaborate much on the slave laborers. So do I recommend your credit for this book, NO. Since it is cheaper to buy it than to use a credit ☺ so purchase it and enjoy it.

I couldn't finish it

The narrator is not my favorite. Her men's voices are annoying and grate on the nerves. On top of this, the story became really irksome as well after the first few chapters: I get that tension is a necessary plot device, but the tension should not be so predictable that I dread what's coming next and wish it would just be over with, already. And did I mention the narrator? Meh.

Strong Story Line...but not a ton of romance

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would have liked to see a little more of WHY Alicia and Geoffrey feel in love. I felt like the author just basically ASSUMED since they were SUPPOSED to fall in love then she wasn't going to waste time showing us the process.

What did you like best about this story?

I thought the story line was great and different. I enjoyed seeing how it all unfolded.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

the narration was so so...I have heard this narrator before and I have the same complaint....TOO MUCH WHISPERING! She struggles with the men's voices in every book she narrates. She does a fabulous job with the women's voices and truly getting the listener engulfed in the story...then she does a man's voice and it is REALLY HARD to get used to the whisper element.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed it...but din't feel very strongly about the couple's relationship because it wasn't built up enough for me. There was just not enough romance for me. I wouldn't read again.

Narration is overly breathy & dramatic

I listened to most of this book but the repetitive theme as well as the narration was too disappointing to finish it
