Publisher's summary

Some things are so worth waiting for. Like the moment when Jessica Ward "accidentally" bumps into Bobby Ray Smith and shows him just how far she's come since high school. Back then, Jess's gangly limbs and bruised heart turned to jelly any time Smitty's "all the better to ravish you with" body came near her. So, some things haven't changed. Except now Jess is a success on her own terms. And she can enjoy a romp - or 20 -with a big, bad wolf and walk away. Easy.

The sexy, polished CEO who hires Smitty's security firm might be a million miles from the lovable geek he knew, but her kiss, her touch, is every bit as hot as he imagined. Jess was never the kind to ask for help, and she doesn't want it now, not even with someone targeting her Pack. But Smitty's not going to turn tail and run. Not before proving that their sheet-scorching animal lust is only the start of something even wilder.

Best New Author I've discovered on Audible

Where does The Beast in Him rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty darn close to the top.

What other book might you compare The Beast in Him to and why?

Hmmmm. Because the book is so funny I would have to compare to other authors that write funny paranormal romances... Molly Harper, Michele Bardsley, Dakota Cassidy. The one difference being that I liked this series so well that I zipped through everything she had available instead of stopping in the middle like I did with the other authors.

What does Charlotte Kane bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I did just read the last book in this series since the Audible version hadn't come out yet and I totally missed Kane's accents and the emotion she puts into her performance. Sarcasm and mockery are emotions, aren't they? Kane had an extremely good interpretation of the those points in Laurenston's narrative.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

OMG yes! I'm lucky that I drive for a living anywhere from 8 to 12 hours a day. I think I went through this whole series in two weeks. And most of that was because I was holding off buying the more expensive versions... Whispersync is your friend but there were two books in this series that weren't Whispersync compatible so I used credits for those two.

Any additional comments?

This whole series was amazing and hilarious. Made me run through every book as fast as I could get them. I think this book was the funniest of them all, making me laugh out loud more times than I can count. Totally recommend these books.

Great Sequal!

So good. I loved this. Shelly Laurenston is becoming a fan of mine. I loved book 1, because it was two stories in one, now this one was a great follow up. We have the same loveable character from book 1 popping up... But one thing... I think some time has passed because Mace and his cop have a baby, which was not in book 1. This is the story of Mace's friend, Smitty... We meet the rest of the Smitty clan and get introduced into wild dogs. I loved it. Great Great story. Worth the Credit or a buy.

Narration was simply awesome. Kane is sooo good.!

Sexy Beast!

Ok, so I'm officially a fan now! I have some reservations about the narrator--she's a bit much, but the storyline, the super hot sex and most importantly the laugh out loud humor has me ready to purchase the whole series! This story is equally if not funnier (and better) than the first. The 'honky tonk/country' vibe of these characters is hilarious. Smitty falling in love and Jessieanne finally giving in to him, made for a cute love story and I can't wait to hear what happens next!

SOOO funny!

I love the Laurenston/Aiken books and the only complaint I have is that there aren't more of them. I know you aren't supposed to wish your life away but I can hardly wait till the 29th when the next one comes out. I'm taking it on holiday with me and can say that it will be one of the best delights of the time off.

The humour and sarcastic wit, strong alpha females and fierce males are in this book in spades- if you loved her other books you will love this one too. I don't want to give spoilers so won't elaborate, but I love Smitty's parents. They are such a great surprise!

I'd recommend this one to any who love a funny Were story. Enjoy!

Hot and Heavy.

This is a great shifter book, with different types of shifters in the book. What is great is that they actually have some of the traits of the real animals. Great characters in this book that has made me anticipate their stories, can't wait to read more. I loved Jessie Ann she is a girl after my own heart. Very sexy men with the right amount of testosterone to keep a girl's heart pounding. There is lots of humor to the story, sometimes I would be laughing out loud, but plenty of smiling like a loon moments. I do wish there was a little more action to the story but I still enjoyed the book very much, I would defiantly classify this book as a romance. I didn't mind the narrator too much, but occasionally she would end her sentences with a screech that was a little distracting. Recommend reading Molly Harper or Katie Macalister for funny romances. Although not quite as funny I would also recommend Tina Folsom's Scanguard series or Nalini Singh's Psy-Changling series.

Best yet

This is a great series, but this was the best in the series so far for me. Smitty and Jessie Anne's story was everything from comical, heart warming and down right enthralling. Shelly Laurenston is an absolute genius at character development and story progression. Her characters are so interesting that when a minor character is introduced in a story I find myself wondering when they are going to get their own book.

Great job Shelly Laurenston keep the great books coming.

Laughing at those Wild Dogs!

OK, some people don't get the wild dogs, but, I thought they were the funniest things around. Loved the humor and the way they get serious. You just have to laugh. Jessica and Bobby Ray, well , what can I say? Once again, a great series. Charlotte Kane, you are the voice!

They never really left high school

After trying out a few of this author’s books, I’ve decided they are too immature for me. It’s all about the boozing and bonking, and generally acting like the Mean Girls. Although ostensibly this story picks up years after Jessie’s ugly duckling high school days, it’s still got cliques, guys saying “bruh,” and girls being ditzy and irrational.

Jessie, hurt by his past rejection, spends the whole time acting like she doesn’t care about him.
She’s hot then cold then hot as she has sex with him, then throws things at him, then has sex with him … the passive aggressive games and pity parties that she goes through because she won’t just tell him what she wants are aggravating.

For his part, it’s all about his ego, with him fixating on her because she’s ignoring him. Meanwhile his wolf pack and her wild dog pack add to the high school clique feel as each group meddles in the their relationship. There a little fun bits, but ultimately not enough to sell me on this as adult romance.

This book was great

I really enjoy Shelly Laurenston's style of writing. This was a very fun shifter PNR with lots of sex and laughs. I recommend all of her Pride series.
