Publisher's summary

I loved him at 15. I thought we'd stand the test of time. He was my forever but maybe I fell too fast or loved him too much. Maybe I came on too strong or maybe I did something wrong. He still left. Turned his back on me without a word. I never thought I'd see him again and to be honest, I didn't want to. I began to hate him even though he would never know it. But then, I did see him again and with him came the secrets that would forever change all of our lives.

She was only a recurring dream in my foggy subconscious. A voice. A face. We weren't supposed to dream. We weren't supposed to remember. They said it was impossible and the before would never come into the now. None of the others remember, at least not that I know of. What I do know is that she was my everything, my every waking breath. Now that I've found her I will not be losing her a second time. She will be mine again, no matter what the cost.

Ages 18+ due to language and sexual content.

Good Story

Would you listen to The Ascension of Laney again? Why?

No, I would not. This was an ok book but I would not go back and listen to it again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ascension of Laney?

Each time they tried to figure out how to help Laney ascend by having her kill someone. They did not want to hurt lots of people, just one so she could do what was needed before she lost her life. You need to listen to the story to understand this.

Have you listened to any of Aundrea Mitchell and Gary Furlong ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, and this one was about as good.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really.

GENUINELY UNIQUE TWIST FOR A FANTASY WORLD

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

I love Gary Furlong and he didn't disappoint. First time listen to Aundrea Mitchell and she was very good. Narration fit perfectly for the characters.

Although there wasn't a lot of explanation or preparation for the types of beings (angry, clueless Angels, Ascendants, Dominating Archs, Human Fallen, Evil Fallen), there was enough to understand their worth and position in the plot's hierarchy. Obviously the Ascended are important as they hold some power from both Angels and Fallen. There weren't enough "Holy Crap" moments because no way could I have learned about or witnessed what Laney was becoming without some serious mental and verbal adjustments. And the the plot progressed at one speed... fast. No ups and downs of revelations and reflections. Not sure if I'm getting my thoughts across, BUT... I really did love the story. I hope the next in the series slows down a pace and fills in some quieter moments, allowing me to know the characters better.

The writing complexity wasn't very extensive; like high school level verses a deeper mature level. So it was fun, not haunting. There was minimal hot-dang sexual content, but frequent mentions of how hard Kass was. The series needs to either "up the ante" or cash-out and choose the YA genre.

But again... for all the little "iffy's" I've mentioned, I really liked the freshness of the fantasy world and it's characters and plot. So I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Two thumbs pointing up, but not wagging them yet.

A must listen if you like angel stories

I love angel books and this one didn't disappoint. I really liked the world building the author did in this story with Ascents, Angels and Archs. I really liked Gary Furlong in this book. He did a great job. Aundrea Mitchell did ok too but needs some work on her male voices. I wish the rest of the series was available on audio because I really want to know what happens next!

Great YA Paranormal Romance

This was a very entertaining story. I was totally sucked in and found it hard to put it down! I listen to it pretty much in one sitting. I just paused a few times to answered some of my kids questions. I really enjoy YA Paranormal Romance. The story was fresh and new. A unique take on Angels and Fallen (demons).

The narration was great and brought the story to life. They did a great job. I also like the dual POV. It is always nice to know how both main characters are feeling.

The characters were well developed and I felt like I was present during the story. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. I like the author writing style and creativity.

What's Next?!

This book is "sitting on the edge of your seat" good! The back and forth banter between Laney and Kass was great. While I enjoyed the narration from Gary Furlong, I wasn't in love with the narration of Aundrea Mitchell. Her narration of the story didn't take away from the plot, but it wasn't my favorite aspect of the book. I can't wait to see what happens next!

A different kind of angel/demon story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Ascension of Laney to be better than the print version?

I always feel the audio book give the story an additional dimension. Gary and Aundrea do a fine job of their characters. This was a new twist on the angel/demon stories I have read before and I quite enjoyed it. The story was very fast paced and I would have liked more exposition of other characters and their hierarchy within the story. On the whole of enjoyed it very much as a quick action-romance. I will be interested in the next book to find out more about the characters.

The Ascension of Laney

Any additional comments?

Enjoyed the story very much and looking forward to the next book in the series.
As far as the narrative goes I`m on the fence, what I though Laney should sound like didn't correlate with Aundrea`s performance.
Again that doesn't mean it wasn't good, just not how I had envisioned.

Nice Twist on Angels and Demons

This was am awesome story that I wanted to read start to finish. I will say this one leaves me wanting more! I can't wait to listen to the next one.

This is a story that I think most fantasy people would enjoy. We are getting a look into an alternate world of angels and demons and how they are all around us at all time.

The narration was wonderful and I hope the same narrators will be doing the next book!
