Publisher's summary

The first book in number one New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown’s beloved Texas! trilogy introduces listeners to a close-knit family struggling to go on without its patriarch - and to a man in pursuit of an elusive woman who may hold his future in her hands.

Charismatic and easy on the eyes, Lucky Tyler is a born rebel. His romantic conquests have earned him his nickname, while his temper gives him his reputation as the family hothead. One night, he gets in a fight over a woman in distress, followed by a night of passion neither of them will soon forget. But the lady in question has a knack for disappearing. When news breaks of a suspicious fire at Tyler Drilling, Lucky is the prime suspect. Now the mystery woman is more than just the object of his obsession. She’s his alibi.

Devon Haines has tried her best to escape Lucky. Yet his bold pursuit and self-assurance are irresistible. In order to clear him of criminal charges, she must reveal her darkest secret; withholding her help could cost him everything he holds dear. Either way, she risks losing him forever.

so disappointing

I am embarrassed that I bought this. I should have paid attention to when Brown wrote it. It is the first book in the Texas series and it is not far removed from a harlequin romance. Truly, Brown was in her earliest stage of becoming the writer she is today. Making it even worse, the narrator was a woman, always a mistake when the main character is a man. Colleen Marlo has difficulty doing a Texas accent, making her Texans sound like the deep south. Hey y'all...Texas accents are NOT the same as Alabama.

Meh.

It was ok for background noise. The narrator was really annoying which made it difficult to listen to. The male lead sounded like Barney Fife and the female lead had absolutely no emotion.

trite and disappointing

This one is not in the same league as her other books. It's a soap opera. Skip it.

Boring And Corny!!!

I've come to the realization that books written and the 80's and 90's are not good audiobooks. Texas! Lucky was horribly boring and the dialogue between the characters was corny. I just can't get with the horrible 90's writing. And, it didn't help that the narrator, Coleen Marlo, was bad. Between the horrible dialogue and the bad narrator, I'm pretty sure I won't finish this series.

Hell hath no fury but a Lucky Man!

Sandra Brown shows once again why she is a master writer in Texas! Lucky. Her particular style of writing is one I resonate with. She takes her time and embeds you into the lives of the characters so that when the plot turns south, you are invested in helping them find the happy ending.
Okay Lucky Tyler is a handsome, ladies man who is avoiding being tied down when he enters the bar simply known as the place. In some messed up gentlemanly way, he defends the honor of a woman he barely knows and gets beat to a pulp doing it. When she leaves without so much as a thanks, Lucky feels jilted and tracks her down to get just that "a thanks." Being the Lucky man he is, he ends up spending the night with her romantically only to realize in the morning, she was gone and someone had burnt down a garage belonging to his floundering family business.

Investigations launched, the only one without an alibi is Lucky and being the Lucky man he is, unable to find "Dovey" the woman he spent the night with.
So Here's where it gets interesting... clearing Lucky's name turns out to be far more complicated because "Dovey" is Devon Haynes a reporter for a Dallas newspaper and Devon is married. Her husband is a convicted felon with an attitude( a douchebag) Poor Lucky(Such a contradiction) because he is actually falling in love with Devon who won't give him the time of day because she thinks there is still hope for her husband who, in this reviewers opinion is a tart.
All works out, in a weird sort of forgettable way. Lucky gets Devon to admit her love for him. Against his gentlemanly upbringing, He sleeps with her (oh no! A married woman?! what will the world come to? (Sorry for this moment of condescension)). And Lucky confronts douche bag husband to basically tell him, when you get out, I'm going to beat you senseless.

The resolution of this conundrum does not end with rose petals and butterflies but quite the opposite with the death of Lucky's sister in law, who he actually liked ( paternally). Tyler drilling( the family business) is still in financial ruin and Chase Tyler the eldest brother and widower, drinking heavily 8 months later.

Bottom Line: The story was a classic Sandra brown ( a reporter and cowboy). Be prepared to learn who these characters are not just have two people fall whismiscally in love with each other.
I love Sandra Brown as an author and if she is your first romance read. She is a class act. She waeves humor, intrigue and even animosity together like they were cut from the same cloth.

If you like Texas! Lucky, this is the beginning of the Texas! series. Not for you, try her more traditional titles: Love's Encore, Two Alone, Eloquent Silence. Read them all and you won't be disappointed.
She also has titles in Suspense and pretty good ones : Mirror Image, Exclusive and The Switch
I've read more, I just can't remember them all.

I enjoyed this story and performance.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, It was an interesting story not too hard to follow while driving. And the performance was great, easy to understand. Very good diction.

What other book might you compare Texas! Lucky to and why?

The other Sandra Brown Books in this series.

What about Coleen Marlo’s performance did you like?

I thought she did a great job!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was making a three hour drive each direction for a doctor's appointment out of town. Made the trip go by quickly. So I guess I listened to it in 2 sittings!

Any additional comments?
