Put the kids to bed and get yourself set up with a healthy glass of wine for this steamy audiobook from best-selling author Lora Leigh. From her successful Feline Breeds series, comes the erotic and intense story, Tempting the Beast. Veteran narrator Stella Bloom gives a sassy and energetic performance, boosting the tension between the journalist Merinus Tyler and her subject, Callan Lyons. Listen on with a salacious appetite as the relationship between Tyler and Lyons extends far beyond that of normal reporting, all while the two attempt to evade the evil Genetics Council.
Callan Lyons is a genetic experiment, one of six fighting for freedom and the survival of their Pride. Merinus Tyler is the reporter who will tempt him, draw him, until the fury of the "mating frenzy" locks them into a battle of sexual heat they cannot escape.
The evil Genetics Council is hot on their trail. Leaving a trail of their own of deception and blood. Callan will use his strength to try to save them both...and do all in his power to keep his woman in the process.

I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
Lora Leigh knows how to keep the sexual chemistry flowing and she adds an interesting twist with her feline breed. This book kept my interest and I went on to book 2 immediately. (Even though I had to purchase it and with other books already lined up in my library to listen to.) I have to admit that if you give me plenty of hot sexual chemistry and a little something different then you've set the hook. Let's hope book 2 keeps the fires burning and the storyline gaining more intensity. If that happens I'll have yet another series of books in my expanding library. This one is worth the credit.
Most everyone I know enjoys a great story plot, but if all you want to do is read a book with almost nothing but sex, this is it. The plot of this story was completely mowed over by the excessive sex scenes.
Started the next book in this series, The Man Within. Started out the same way. I didn't finish it.
This I thought was the best part of this book. The narrator was very good. 4 stars.
Not with this story. It would have to be completely rewritten. I couldn't think of any stars that would step up for this. Pretty much a career breaker.
I understand that Lora Leigh changed publishers and the writing on this series has gotten a lot better. I'm just not sure I'm willing to risk any more time to this series.
“A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face. It is one of the few havens remaining where an individual's mind can get both provocation and privacy.”
Its a keeper. The series is a keeper and when I get book 28 I will go back and listen to the previous books again.
First of a series and I LOVE series books!
It wasn't that she could have done better it was more a matter of personal preference and though I had no real complaints - just a little on the humdrum side but ... hey I love this series so I listened to the end.
Yes. I am not sure weather that was because I had read the book previous to listening to the audio and I love it but I did listen to it in one hit.
This is one of the hottest book series I've ever read.
Lora Leigh’s Breed Series has the perfect mix of science fiction infused into the paranormal aspect along with a huge dose of sexy characters and raw erotica. I hadn’t read anything like it before and I have become a diehard fan of this series. As with all series, it’s not about each individual book but the progression of the ‘story’ and this series gets better with each book.
Tempting the Beast is the first book in the Breeds series (to date there are 27 books). It introduces an intriguing cast of secondary characters many of whom get their own stories. This book has scorching hot sex scenes and uncensored raw language so don’t say you weren’t warned. It isn't often that an author combines erotica with a storyline that keeps you intrigued, the underlying plot is fascinating (genetic engineering and government conspiracy, humans who are part animal with their evil creators relentlessly pursuing them, hello what more do you need??) My advice is that you will either love it or hate it, try the first two and you will either be hooked or sitting there thinking WTF was Shay thinking.
The narrator? Not the worst I have heard and certainly not the best. I wasn’t completely put off but .... I prefer Brianna Bronte who takes over later in the series. If you love the story – persist.
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
Like all of Lora's Hot sexy and fanning my face to cool down Breed books this had all of the steam, excitement and sensuality of erotica combined with the charming, enthralling, head-over-heels, soul-mate love that every romantic desires. And now add to that combo, a wonderfully original storyline, witty dialogue, and truly amazing writing and you've got yourself a keeper baby! -- The relationship between Callan and Merrinus will draw you in and sink its claws into you from the first page, refusing to extract them until the very satisfying ending. Merrinus is a strong-willed, passionate, intelligent woman who (thanks to having been raised by an overprotective all-male family) is more than able to hold her own against the wildness within her man. Callan is the possessive, dominant, delicious alpha-male from every woman's fantasy whose fierce loyalty and love for his family and mate will capture the heart of every reader. So beware y, you will want to read the rest of the Breeds series.......
No prude - far from it, but the jarring use of the the c-word for female genitalia is just *not* sexy according to me. So it lost out on both eroticism as well as story. Lost interest half-way through the book.
I love a steamy listen, but this one will seriously make you flush and blush with every word! It was super hot like fire! The narrator was decent, she has a good voice for narration but there were moments where things were a little over-dramatized; all that said, the storyline was a common theme in paranormal lit--humans spliced with animal DNA and during a lust-filled haze that beastly core threatens to take over, all the while true love finds its way in!--so I enjoyed it. Tempting the Beast is probably 70% erotica and 30% plot, and I'm 100% going to buy the next one and many more by Lora Leigh!!
As the first book in the series, it does fill in the background on the first breeds. This story is a good beginning with heat and solid storyline. Lori makes her characters real with real situations in an unreal fantasy. Callan has the air of authority needed to carry the series and be leader of the pack. Keeping the intensity of the story is difficult and Lori seems to have achieved that in this book. Greater insight into the breeding program and the evil characters in the background would have made the book more interesting but it still is a good read. The relationship of the couple is well laid out and central to the story. I have read all of the series available so far and look forward to the books that fill in the gaps. I like the fact that each book stands alone in the relationship of each couple but the integration of the basic storyline that flows through each book. Revisiting couples throughout the series helps to make the group seem more real and allows the story to flow. Keep going.
The story and series is one I've read and re-read numerous times, so no - I wouldn't change the story.
The rest of the Breed series, naturally, is great - but it also compares to Christine Warren's Other series and Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series.
First - the lack of dramatic vocalizations greatly detracted from my enjoyment, but compounding that was the mispronouncations. Primarily the heroine's name is Merinus (marin us) - not (mar eens or some such). If this is indicative of the rest narration for the back series, count me out. I'd rather put it through a text to speech reader - and have done so many times.
I'd love to see it in visual media.
If you're looking for a great series, yes, I'd recommend this one - but read the books instead of listening to this one. Or, as I said, put them through a text to speech mp3 recorder software or FBReader speech on your android. You'll probably enjoy it more than this one.
